    Guanni Qu1,#, Tianai Yue2,#,*, Xiaoyu Zhang3, Shibiao Wei3

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.3, pp. 591-608, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.017776

Abstract The present study stems from the realization that the general problem relating to the analysis of wind-induced vibrations in suspension bridges still requires significant attention. Sidewalk railings, overhaul tracks, and deflectors are known to largely affect such dynamics. Here, the influence of a row of water-filled traffic barriers on the response of a sample suspension bridge is investigated numerically. It is shown that the existence of water barriers causes flow separation and non-negligible vortices with respect to the condition with no water barriers. The vortex shedding frequency at the far end is around 41.30 Hz, relatively close to the real… More >

Juanjuan Wang*, Yaya Wang, Junhui Liu, Jianbo Zheng, Hongfang Zhou

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.3, pp. 577-589, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.017594

Abstract The electricity-gas transformation problem and related intrinsic mechanisms are considered. First, existing schemes for the optimization of electricity-gas integrated energy systems are analyzed through consideration of the relevant literature, and an Electricity Hub (EH) for electricity-gas coupling is proposed. Then, the distribution mechanism in the circuit of the considered electricity-gas integrated system is analyzed. Afterward, a mathematical model for the natural gas pipeline is elaborated according to the power relationship, a node power flow calculation method, and security requirements. Next, the coupling relationship between them is implemented, and dedicated simulations are carried out. Through experimental data, it is found that… More >

    Shunshun Qin1, Chengfen Xie1, Song Li1, Qi Yang1, Jianwei Chen2, Ke Sun2,*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.3, pp. 647-659, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.017519

Abstract The STAR-CCM + software is used to investigate the flow inside a cooling water jacket of an in-line six-cylinder diesel engine. The results show that the average flow velocity of the cooling water inside the jacket is 1.669 m/s while the flow velocity distribution is not uniform for each cylinder. Moreover, the fluid velocity in proximity to the cylinder head is too low, thereby affecting the cooling performances of the water jacket. Two corresponding structural optimization schemes are proposed to mitigate this issue and the post-optimization performances of the water jacket are discussed in detail. More >

Experimental Performance Evaluation and Artificial-Neural-Network Modeling of ZnO-CuO/EG-W Hybrid Nanofluids

Yuling Zhai*, Long Li, Zihao Xuan, Mingyan Ma, Hua Wang

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.3, pp. 629-646, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.017485

Abstract The thermo-physical properties of nanofluids are highly dependent on the used base fluid. This study explores the influence of the mixing ratio on the thermal conductivity and viscosity of ZnO-CuO/EG (ethylene glycol)-W (water) hybrid nanofluids with mass concentration and temperatures in the ranges 1-5 wt.% and 25-60°C, respectively. The characteristics and stability of these mixtures were estimated by TEM (transmission electron microscopy), visual observation, and absorbance tests. The results show that 120 min of sonication and the addition of PVP (polyvinyl pyrrolidone) surfactant can prevent sedimentation for a period reaching up to 20 days. The increase of EG (ethylene glycol)… More >

Application of New Water Flooding Characteristic Curve in the High Water-Cut Stage of an Oilfield

    Xi Zhang1, Changquan Wang1,*, Hua Wu2, Xu Zhao2

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.3, pp. 661-677, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.019486

Abstract The oil production predicted by means of the conventional water-drive characteristic curve is typically affected by large deviations with respect to the actual value when the so-called high water-cut stage is entered. In order to solve this problem, a new characteristic relationship between the relative permeability ratio and the average water saturation is proposed. By comparing the outcomes of different matching methods, it is verified that it can well reflect the variation characteristics of the relative permeability ratio curve. Combining the new formula with a reservoir engineering method, two new formulas are derived for the water flooding characteristic curve in… More >

    Yu Tang1, Jingcun Yu1, Benyu Su1,3,*, Zhixiong Li2

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.3, pp. 679-688, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.019609

Abstract The complex resistivity of coal and related rocks contains abundant physical property information, which can be indirectly used to study the lithology and microstructure of these materials. These aspects are closely related to the fluids inside the considered coal rocks, such as gas, water and coalbed methane. In the present analysis, considering different lithological structures, and using the Cole-Cole model, a forward simulation method is used to study different physical parameters such as the zero-frequency resistivity, the polarizability, the relaxation time, and the frequency correlation coefficient. Moreover, using a least square technique, a complex resistivity “inversion” algorithm is written. The… More >

Experimental Analysis of the Influence of Exhaust Thermal Management on Engine NOx Emission

    Jinliang Zhu1, Xiulei Wang1, Guihua Wang1, Xianglin Zhong2, Zhenguo Li3, Zhiming Wang1, Ke Sun1,*, Shuzhan Bai1,*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.3, pp. 701-711, 2022, DOI: 10.32604/fdmp.2022.019311

Abstract Exhaust thermal management is essential to allow engines to meet the Euro VI emissions standards and reducing nitrogen oxide emissions is one of the most important targets being pursued nowadays. Along these lines, in the present study, engine’s thermal performances have been evaluated on the basis of a WHTC test, namely a transient engine dynamometer schedule defined by the global technical regulation (GTR) developed by the UN ECE GRPE group (the GTR is covering a world-wide harmonized heavy-duty certification (WHDC) procedure for engine exhaust emissions). The influence of thermal management on fuel consumption, intake, and tailpipe NOx have been quantitatively… More >

A Mixed Radiative-Convective Technique for the Calibration of Heat Flux Sensors in Hypersonic Flow

    Antonio Esposito1, Marcello Lappa2,*, Rocco Pagliara3, Gennaro Spada1

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.2, pp. 189-203, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.019605

Abstract The ability to measure the very high heat fluxes that typically occur during the hypersonic re-entry phase of space vehicles is generally considered a subject of great importance in the aerospace field. Most of the sensors used for these measurements need to be checked periodically and re-calibrated accordingly. Another bottleneck relates to the need to procure thermal sources that are able to generate reliable reference heat fluxes in the range between 100 and 1000 kW/m2 (as order of magnitude). In the present study, a method is presented by which, starting from a calibration system with a capacity of approximately 500 kW/m2 only,… More >

    Xuewen Cao1, Ni Xiong1, Jian Li2, Zhenqiang Xie1, Xuerui Zang1, Jiang Bian1,*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.2, pp. 233-241, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.018505

Abstract The influence of the material stress state induced by internal and external forces on the erosion rate of pipelines has rarely been investigated in the literature. In order to fill this gap, using a tensile tester machine, a two–phase gas–solid particles jet erosion test was carried out considering a 316L stainless steel under different tensile stresses and different erosion angles. The results show that: 1) In the elastic range, with the increase of stress, the erosion rate manifests a rising trend; 2) In the metal plastic range, the increase of stress leads to a decrease of the erosion rate; 3)… More >

    Yi Tu1, Yu Zeng2,*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.2, pp. 355-370, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.018423

Abstract Onboard air separation devices, based on hollow fiber membranes, are traditionally used for the optimization of aircraft fuel tank inerting systems. In the present study, a set of tests have been designed and executed to assess the air separation performances of these systems for different air inlet temperatures (70°C∼110°C), inlet pressures (0.1∼0.4 MPa), volume flow rates of nitrogen-enriched air (NEA) (30∼120 L/min) and flight altitudes (1.5∼18 km). In particular, the temperature, pressure, volume flow rate, and oxygen concentration of air, NEA and oxygen-enriched air (OEA) have been measured. The experimental results show that the oxygen concentration of NEA, air separation coefficient, and… More >
