    Su Ji-Jun1,2, Zhang Zhao-Cheng1, Hu Hong1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.11, No.4, pp. 87-94, 2009, DOI:10.3970/icces.2009.011.087

Abstract This paper concentrates on the development and evaluation of linear characteristics of a complex flexure hinge with high accuracy and large stiffness. The flexure hinge mechanism is used to clamp the shaft of a micropositioning stage based on the inchworm principle. Six key parameters of the flexure hinge are optimized by using finite element method. Developed flexure hinge has very good effects on the clamping and resilience that are accurate and reasonable. The evaluation result shows that the flexure hinge has excellent linear characteristic. More >

A moving modified Trefftz method for inverse Laplace problems in two dimensional multiply-connected domain

    C.-L. Kuo, C.-S. Liu

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.11, No.3, pp. 85-86, 2009, DOI:10.3970/icces.2009.011.085

Abstract In this paper, the inverse problems in a multiply connected domain governed by the Laplace equation have been investigated numerically by the developed moving modified Trefftz method. When solving the direct Laplace problem with the conventional Trefftz method, one may treat the ill-posed linear algebraic equations because the solution is obtained by expanding the diverging series; while when the inverse Laplace problem is encountered, it is more difficult to treat the more seriously ill-posed behaviors because the incomplete boundary data, and its solution, if exists, does not depend on the given boundary data continuously. Even many researchers have proposed lots… More >

Multicriterion statistical extrapolation for a preset prediction in performance sport

    Emil Budescu1, Mircea Stefanovici2, Ioan Iacob3

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.11, No.3, pp. 84-84, 2009, DOI:10.3970/icces.2009.011.084

Abstract The present paper presents the issues related to the dynamic series adjustment in order to determine the probability to reach preset values of performance, in the stated period of time and of known statistical chronological series. So, with trend functions, one can approximate the variation tendency in time of the sportive performance parameter, the difficulty being, though, the weight of each dynamic series of statistical data in the probability evaluation of performance. Each dynamic series represents values of the physical and physical tests monitored over a training phase, so over a stated period of time. Based on the structural analyses… More >

    Wen- Hsiang Hsiang1, Kuen-Ming Shu2, Chia-Heng Tsai1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.11, No.3, pp. 75-76, 2009, DOI:10.3970/icces.2009.011.075

Abstract The objective of this paper is to propose a novel mechanical press with six-links, and to verify its feasibility in precision cutting. First, the system is presented and its advantages are discussed. Then, the kinematic analysis of the system is obtained by examining the geometry of the design. Furthermore, the optimization approach for the design is presented. Finally, a design example is given to verify the feasibility of the design by conducting computer simulation. All the above analysis and design are illustrated by using a 6-bar linkage. The results shown that the developed system is feasible and of high potential… More >

Ji Won Yoon1, Tae Won Park2, Kab Jin Jun3, Soo Ho Lee3, Sung Pil Jung3

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.11, No.3, pp. 73-74, 2009, DOI:10.3970/icces.2009.011.073

Abstract Industrial vehicles like forklifts are used in many areas, such as the heavy industries, shipbuilding, and manufacturing industries. Recently, the rise in the oil prices and stricter environmental regulations have created the need for new technologies for industrial vehicles. Presently, the performance of the power train has reached its limit and cannot be further improved without increasing cost, weight and volume. Therefore, a system based on a new paradigm is needed. To achieve this goal, the structure of the power transfer system needs to be revolutionized. First, weight and size need to be reduced. In addition, the number of gears… More >

Non-Newtonian Lid-driven Cavity Flow Simulation by Mesh Free Method

    Abazar Shamekhi1, Abbas Aliabadi2

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.11, No.3, pp. 67-72, 2009, DOI:10.3970/icces.2009.011.067

Abstract Non-Newtonian lid-driven cavity flow is studied in a wide range of Reynolds numbers. The algorithm of mesh free characteristic based split has been extended for solving non-Newtonian flow problems in meshfree context. It is assumed that the non-Newtonian fluid properties obey Carreau-Yasuda rheological model. The results obtained from mesh free characteristic based split algorithm have been compared to the results of other meshfree methods. Results have been obtained for the velocity profiles at Reynolds numbers as high as 1000 for a Carreau-Yasuda fluid. More >

Thermal effect on the vibrational behaviors of single-walled carbon nanotubes using molecular dynamics and modified molecular structure mechanics

    Hsien-Chie Cheng1, Chun-Hung Wu2, Yang-Lun Liu2, Wen-Hwa Chen2

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.11, No.3, pp. 65-66, 2009, DOI:10.3970/icces.2009.011.065

Abstract This study attempts to explore the thermal effect on the vibrational behaviors of single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) using both a constant temperature molecular dynamics (MD) simulation that incorporates a Nosé-Hoover thermostat and a modified molecular structure mechanics (MMSM) model. The MD simulation is combined with a Nosé-Hoover thermostat, which controls the temperature of the system by an additional thermal reservoir. On the other hand, the MMSM model adopts equivalent beam elements and spring elements to simulate the bonding and non-bonding interactions between atoms, respectively, where the effect of temperatures can be also taken into account through Badger's rules.
