    Chein-Shan Liu1, Chih-Wen Chang2, Jiang-Ren Chang2,3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.9, No.2, pp. 111-136, 2009, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2009.009.111

Abstract In this paper, we take the advantage of an analytical method to solve the advection-dispersion equation (ADE) for identifying the contamination problems. First, the Fourier series expansion technique is employed to calculate the concentration field C(x, t) at any time t< T. Then, we consider a direct regularization by adding an extra term αC(x,0) on the final condition to carry off a second kind Fredholm integral equation. The termwise separable property of the kernel function permits us to transform itinto a two-point boundary value problem. The uniform convergence and error estimate of the regularized solution Cα(x,t) are provided and a… More >

Jae In Kim1, Kilho Eom2, Moon Kyu Kwak3, Sungsoo Na4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.8, No.2, pp. 67-74, 2008, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2008.008.067

Abstract This paper concerns the application of component mode synthesis for biomolecule modeling to understand protein dynamics. As for protein dynamics, eigenvalue problem should be formulated to obtain eigenvalue, eigenvector and thermal fluctuation. To describe the thermal fluctuation of protein, normal mode analysis is introduced and normal modes identify the dynamic behavior of protein very well. Component mode synthesis considers the given complex structure as an assembly of smaller components. The selection of a component may be arbitrary. When the component mode synthesis is applied to formulate the eigenvalue problem of protein structure, we selected a protein which may be composed… More >

The Lie-Group Shooting Method for Thermal Stress Evaluation Through an Internal Temperature Measurement

    Chein-Shan Liu1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.8, No.1, pp. 1-16, 2008, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2008.008.001

Abstract In the present work we study numerical computations of inverse thermal stress problems. The unknown boundary conditions of an elastically deformable heat conducting rod are not given a priori and are not allowed to measure directly, because the boundary may be not accessible to measure. However, an internal measurement of temperature is available. We treat this inverse problem by using a semi-discretization technique, of which the time domain is divided into many sub-intervals and the physical quantities are discretized at these node points of discrete times. Then the resulting ordinary differential equations in the discretized space are numerically integrated towards… More >

    Chih-Wen Chang1, Jiang-Ren Chang1, Chein-Shan Liu2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.7, No.3, pp. 139-154, 2008, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2008.007.139

Abstract In this paper, we propose a Lie-group shooting method to deal with the classical Blasius flat-plate problem and to find unknown initial conditions. The pivotal point is based on the erection of a one-step Lie group element$\mathbf G(T) and the formation of a generalized mid-point Lie group element$\mathbf G(r). Then, by imposing G(T) = G(r) we can derive some algebraic equations to recover the missing initial conditions. It is the first time that we can apply the Lie-group shooting method to solve the classical Blasius flat-plate problem. Numerical examples are worked out to persuade that the novel approach has better… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.6, No.1, pp. 43-50, 2007, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2007.006.043

Abstract Presented herein are the evaluation results of the BGA solder ball shape using energy method, two types of solder, viz. Sn37Pb and Sn80Pb, are selected .The geometry of the solder bump is firstly estimated using free computer software, the Surface Evolver, an interactive program which is an energy-based approach for the study of liquid droplet surfaces shaped by surface tension and other energies. The solder bump is then numerically constructed in a finite element model that simulates a BGA package. The influences of both upper and bottom solder pad radii, the surface tension on the balls, and the external load… More >

    Kilho Eom1, Jeong-Hee Ahn2, Seung-Chul Baek2, Jae-In Kim2, Sungsoo Na2,3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.6, No.1, pp. 35-42, 2007, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2007.006.035

Abstract This paper concerns the application and demonstration of robust reduction methodology for biomolecular structure modeling, which is able to estimate dynamics of large proteins. The understanding of large protein dynamics is germane to gain insight into biological functions related to conformation change that is well described by normal modes. In general, proteins exhibit the complicated potential field and the large degrees of freedom, resulting in the computational prohibition for large protein dynamics. In this article, large protein dynamics is investigated with modeling reduction schemes. The performance of hierarchical condensation methods implemented in the paper is compared with that obtained from… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.5, No.1, pp. 1-10, 2007, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2007.005.001

Abstract A neural network (NN) model is developed for the analysis and prediction of the mapping between degradation of chemical elements and electrochemical parameters during the corrosion process. The input parameters to the neural network model are alloy composition, electrochemical parameters, and corrosion time. The output parameters are the degradation of chemical elements in AA 2024-T3 material. The NN is trained with the data obtained from Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectrometry (EDS) on corroded specimens. A very good performance of the neural network is achieved after training and validation with the experimental data. After validating the NN model, simulations were carried out… More >

    D.L. Young1,2, C.C. Tsai3, Y.C. Lin1, C.S. Chen4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.4, No.1, pp. 1-10, 2006, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2006.004.001

Abstract This paper describes the method of fundamental solutions (MFS) to solve eigenfrequencies of plate vibrations by utilizing the direct determinant search method. The complex-valued kernels are used in the MFS in order to avoid the spurious eigenvalues. The benchmark problems of a circular plate with clamped, simply supported and free boundary conditions are studied analytically as well as numerically using the discrete and continuous versions of the MFS schemes to demonstrate the major results of the present paper. Namely only true eigenvalues are contained and no spurious eigenvalues are included in the range of direct determinant search method. Consequently analytical… More >

A Correlation Coefficient Approach for Evaluation of Stiffness Degradation of Beams Under Moving Load

    Thanh Q. Nguyen1,2, Thao T. D. Nguyen3, H. Nguyen-Xuan4,5,*, Nhi K. Ngo1,2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.61, No.1, pp. 27-53, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2019.07756

Abstract This paper presents a new approach using correlation and cross-correlation coefficients to evaluate the stiffness degradation of beams under moving load. The theoretical study of identifying defects by vibration methods showed that the traditional methods derived from the vibration measurement data have not met the needs of the actual issues. We show that the correlation coefficients allow us to evaluate the degree and the effectiveness of the defects on beams. At the same time, the cross-correlation model is the basis for determining the relative position of defects. The results of this study are experimentally conducted to confirm the relationship between… More >

    Ruikang Xing1,*, Chenghai Li1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.60, No.2, pp. 767-780, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2019.04500

Abstract In clustering analysis, the key to deciding clustering quality is to determine the optimal number of clusters. At present, most clustering algorithms need to give the number of clusters in advance for clustering analysis of the samples. How to gain the correct optimal number of clusters has been an important topic of clustering validation study. By studying and analyzing the FCM algorithm in this study, an accurate and efficient algorithm used to confirm the optimal number of clusters is proposed for the defects of traditional FCM algorithm. For time and clustering accuracy problems of FCM algorithm and relevant algorithms automatically… More >
