Analytical Modeling of Internal Thermal Mass: Transient Heat Conduction in a Sphere under Constant, Exponential, and Periodic Ambient Temperatures

    Liangjian Lei1,2, Yihang Lu1,2,*

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.23, No.6, pp. 2109-2126, 2025, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2025.072643 - 31 December 2025

Abstract Internal thermal mass, such as furniture and partitions, plays a crucial role in enhancing building energy efficiency and indoor thermal comfort by passively regulating temperature fluctuations. However, the irregular geometry of these elements poses a significant challenge for accurate modeling in building energy simulations. This study addresses this gap by developing a rigorous analytical model that idealizes internal thermal mass as a sphere, thereby capturing multi-directional heat conduction effects that are neglected in simpler one-dimensional slab models. The transient heat conduction within the sphere is solved analytically using Duhamel’s theorem for three representative indoor air… More >

Impact of Extreme Environmental Temperature on the Electric-Thermal Field Distribution of ERIP Bushing for 750 kV High Voltage Reactors

    Minjie Li1, Wanhao Shi1, Dingqian Yang2, Manman Yuan2, Jiabao Du2, Xuandong Liu1,*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.122, No.10, pp. 4297-4312, 2025, DOI:10.32604/ee.2025.066337 - 30 September 2025

Abstract In Xinjiang, China, Oil-immersed paper bushings used in reactors are highly susceptible to discharge breakdown faults due to drastic fluctuations in environmental and oil temperatures. To mitigate this problem, oil-free and explosion-proof epoxy resin-impregnated paper (ERIP) bushings are recommended as replacements. This study develops a multi-physics(electric-thermal-fluid) coupling model for 750 kV high voltage reactors ERIP bushings. The model aims to comprehensively assess their thermal and electrical performance under extreme ambient temperatures ranging from −40°C to 90°C and oil temperatures varying from −10°C to 90°C. The results demonstrate that the bushing temperature rises consistently with increases… More >

Influence of the Ambient Temperature on the Efficiency of Gas Turbines

    Mahdi Goucem*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.10, pp. 2265-2279, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2024.052365 - 23 September 2024

Abstract In hot and arid regions like the Saharan area, effective methods for cooling and humidifying intake air are essential. This study explores the utilization of a water trickle cooler as a promising solution to meet this objective. In particular, the HASSI MESSAOUD area is considered as a testbed. The water trickle cooler is chosen for its adaptability to arid conditions. Modeling results demonstrate its effectiveness in conditioning air before it enters the compressor. The cooling system achieves a significant temperature reduction of 6 to 8 degrees Celsius, enhancing mass flow rate dynamics by 3 percent More >

Analysis of a Water-Cooled Unit under Different Loads

    Daoming Shen1,*, Jinhong Xia1, Chao Gui1, Songtao Xue2

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.7, pp. 1863-1873, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.024925 - 08 March 2023

Abstract In order to ensure the safe operation of the compressors used in water chillers, in the present study some interlock protections have been added to the related design. These include a low pressure protection, a high pressure protection, an exhaust temperature protection and a differential pressure protection. Some tests have been conducted by tuning the saturation suction and exhaust temperatures of the compressor through adjustment of the cold source outlet temperature and the ambient temperature. The results show that the ambient temperature increases with decreasing device load and increasing fan speed under the same saturated More > Graphic Abstract
