    Shueei-Muh Lin1, Sen-Yung Lee2, Yu-Sheng Lin3

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.23, No.3, pp. 175-186, 2008, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2008.023.175

Abstract The blade of a horizontal-axis wind power turbine is modeled as a rotating beam with pre-cone angles and setting angles. Based on the Bernoulli-Euler beam theory, without considering the axial extension deformation and the Coriolis forces effect, the governing differential equations for the bending vibration of the beam are derived. It is pointed out that if the geometric and the material properties of the beam are in polynomial forms, then the exact solution for the system can be obtained. Based on the frequency relations as revealed, without tedious numerical analysis, one can reach many general qualitative conclusions between the natural… More >

    Shuyao Long1, S. N. Atluri2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.3, No.1, pp. 53-64, 2002, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2002.003.053

Abstract Meshless methods have been extensively popularized in literature in recent years, due to their flexibility in solving boundary value problems. The meshless local Petrov-Galerkin(MLPG) method for solving the bending problem of the thin plate is presented and discussed in the present paper. The method uses the moving least-squares approximation to interpolate the solution variables, and employs a local symmetric weak form. The present method is a truly meshless one as it does not need a mesh, either for the purpose of interpolation of the solution or for the integration of the energy. All integrals can be easily evaluated over regularly… More >

Boundary Element Stress Analysis of Thick Reissner Plates in Bending under Generalized Loading

    A. El-Zafrany1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.2, No.1, pp. 27-38, 2001, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2001.002.027

Abstract In a recent publication, the author has introduced boundary integral equations for thick plate bending problems, for cases with generalized types of loading. Internal bending moments and shear forces, required for stress analysis, were calculated by means of a finite difference procedure, which requires fine boundary element meshes to achieve an acceptable degree of accuracy. In this paper, boundary integral equations for internal bending moments and shear forces are presented for thick Reissner plates in bending. Domain loading terms in those boundary integral equations have also been simplified for a variety of loading types including concentrated loading, linearly-distributed loading, and… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.38, No.3, pp. 129-154, 2013, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2013.038.129

Abstract User experiences for electronic devices with high portability and flexibility, good intuitive human interfaces and low cost have driven the development of semiconductor technology toward flexible electronics and display. In this study proposes, an advanced flexible interconnect technology is proposed for flexible electronics, in which an ultra-thin IC chip having a great number of micro-bumps is bonded onto a very thin flex substrate using an epoxy-based anisotropic conductive film (ACF) to form fine-pitch and reliable interconnects or joints (herein termed ACF-typed thin-flip-chip-on-flex (TFCOF) technology). The electrical and thermal -mechanical performances of the micro-joints are the key to the feasibility and… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.52, No.1, pp. 53-71, 2016, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2016.052.053

Abstract A new wavelet finite element method (WFEM) is constructed in this paper and two elements for bending and free vibration problems of a stiffened plate are analyzed. By means of generalized potential energy function and virtual work principle, the formulations of the bending and free vibration problems of the stiffened plate are derived separately. Then, the scaling functions of the B-spline wavelet on the interval (BSWI) are introduced to discrete the solving field variables instead of conventional polynomial interpolation. Finally, the corresponding two problems can be resolved following the traditional finite element frame. There are some advantages of the constructed… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.48, No.1, pp. 25-42, 2015, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2015.048.025

Abstract In this paper, the buckling and collapse analysis of offshore pipeline under combined tension, bending moment, and external pressure has been presented with theoretical analysis and FE (finite element) simulation method respectively. Based on the model initially proposed by Kyriakides, a 2-D theoretical model has been further developed. To verify the correctness and accuracy of the model proposed in this paper, numerical simulations have been conducted with 3-D FE model using ABAQUS software. Good consistency has been shown between the calculation results which validate the availability of the theoretical analysis. On this basis, the influence of load path, material properties,… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.47, No.1, pp. 1-14, 2015, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2015.047.001

Abstract In order to solve bending behavior difference of corrugated structure in L andWorientation, bending response for composite sandwich beams with foldcores of three different wall thicknesses were experimentally and numerically investigated. Effect of the cell walls thickness on the strength and failure behavior of the composite sandwich beams with L and W orientations was also examined. The deformation mode was obtained by the numerical method; a constitutive law of laminated material has been incorporated into a finite element (FE) analysis program. Numerical calculations give accurate prediction to the bending response of foldcore composite sandwich beams comparing with experiments. Structural flexural… More >

    D. Pandit1, N. Thomas2, Bhakti Patel1, S.M. Srinivasan1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.45, No.2, pp. 127-144, 2015, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2015.045.127

Abstract In this paper, a class of problems involving space constrained loading on thin beams with large deflections is considered. The loading is such that, the locus of the force application point moves along an arbitrarily predefined path, fixed in space. Both linear elastic as well as elastic-perfectly plastic materials are considered. A simplification is realized using the moment-curvature relationship directly. The governing equation obtained is highly non-linear owing to inclusion of both material and geometric non-linearity. A general algorithm is described to solve the governing equation using an incremental formulation coupled with Runge Kutta 4th order initial value explicit solver.… More >

    Hao Zuo1,2, Zhibo Yang1,2,3, Xuefeng Chen1,2, Yong Xie4, Xingwu Zhang1,2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.44, No.3, pp. 167-204, 2014, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2014.044.167

Abstract Following previous work, a wavelet finite element method is developed for bending, free vibration and buckling analysis of functionally graded (FG) plates based on Mindlin plate theory. The functionally graded material (FGM) properties are assumed to vary smoothly and continuously throughout the thickness of plate according to power law distribution of volume fraction of constituents. This article adopts scaling functions of two-dimensional tensor product BSWI to form shape functions. Then two-dimensional FGM BSWI element is constructed based on Mindlin plate theory by means of two-dimensional tensor product BSWI. The proposed two-dimensional FGM BSWI element possesses the advantages of high convergence,… More >

    Wei Zhang1,2, Pengcheng Ni2, Bingfei Liu1,3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.44, No.2, pp. 105-122, 2014, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2014.044.105

Abstract Analytical expressions have been derived for the through thickness stresses of a Functional graded materials (FGMs) thin plate subjected to thermal loading, pure bending and thermo-mechanical coupling, respectively. The structure is comprised of a metallic layer, a ceramic layer and a functional graded layer. Continuous gradation of the volume fraction in the FGM layer is modeled in the form of an "m" power polynomial of the coordinate axis in thickness direction of the plate. Numerical scheme of discretizing the continuous FGM layer with different graded distributions such as linear (m=1), quadratic (m=2) and square root (m=0.5) has been developed by… More >
