    Hongfei Cao1,2, Zhongda Lyu1,2,3,*, Xi Peng2,3, Zhuo Zhao2,3

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.9, pp. 2361-2384, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.027470

Abstract In recent years, Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) have played an increasingly important role in the construction and monitoring of underwater pile foundations. However, due to the open frame structure of such vehicles, a gap of knowledge still exists with regard to their hydrodynamic behavior. In this study, the hydrodynamic stability of such vehicles is investigated numerically by means of a multiple reference frame method. The hydrodynamic characteristics of the ROV when it moves horizontally and upward in the vertical plane are examined. It is found that there is interference between the horizontal and vertical thrusters of the ROV. There is… More >

INTEGRATED MICRO X-RAY TOMOGRAPHY AND PORE-SCALE SIMULATIONS FOR ACCURATE PERMEABILITY PREDICTIONS OF POROUS MEDIA

Fangzhou Wanga,* , Gennifer A. Rileyb, Munonyedi Egboc, Melanie M. Derbyb, Gisuk Hwangc, Xianglin Lia,†

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.15, pp. 1-8, 2020, DOI:10.5098/hmt.15.1

Abstract This study conducts pore-scale simulations and experiments to estimate the permeability of two different types of porous materials: metal foams and sintered copper particles with porosities of approximately 0.9 and 0.4, respectively. The integration of micro X-ray computed tomography with pore-scale computational fluid dynamics simulations develops a unique tool to capture the pore-scale geometry of porous media and accurately predict non-isotropic permeability of porous media. The pore-scale simulation not only results in improved prediction accuracy but also has the capability to capture non-isotropic properties of heterogeneous materials, which is a huge challenge for empirical correlations, volume averaged simulations, and simulations… More >

NewBee: Context-Free Grammar (CFG) of a New Programming Language for Novice Programmers

    Muhammad Aasim Qureshi1,*, Muhammad Asif2, Saira Anwar3

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.37, No.1, pp. 439-453, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.036102

Abstract Learning programming and using programming languages are the essential aspects of computer science education. Students use programming languages to write their programs. These computer programs (students or practitioners written) make computers artificially intelligent and perform the tasks needed by the users. Without these programs, the computer may be visioned as a pointless machine. As the premise of writing programs is situated with specific programming languages, enormous efforts have been made to develop and create programming languages. However, each programming language is domain-specific and has its nuances, syntax and semantics, with specific pros and cons. These language-specific details, including syntax and… More >

A COMPARISON OF THE EQUILIBRIUM AND THE DROPLETS BASED NON-EQUILIBRIUM COMPRESSIBLE PHASE CHANGE SOLVERS FOR CONDENSATION OF CARBON DIOXIDE INSIDE NOZZLES

Kapil Dev Choudhary, Shyam Sunder Yadav , Mani Sankar Dasgupta

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.16, pp. 1-10, 2021, DOI:10.5098/hmt.16.14

Abstract In the current work, we simulate the condensation of supercritical CO2 during its high speed flow inside two different converging-diverging nozzles. We use the homogeneous equilibrium method and the classical nucleation theory based non-equilibrium phase change model for this purpose. The simulation results indicate significant influence of the nozzle inlet condition, nozzle shape and the fluid thermophysical behaviour on the nonequilibrium conditions prevailing inside the nozzles. We observe very low, ∼0.15 K, supercooling for the flow of CO2 inside the Claudio Lettieri nozzle compared to the supercooling of ∼3 K observed for the Berana nozzle. Very high nucleation rate (∼… More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.16, pp. 1-15, 2021, DOI:10.5098/hmt.16.9

Abstract In this study, indoor air quality and thermal comfort were investigated for two persons sitting inside an office room of dimensions (3×2.5×2.5m). The office room is equipped with personal ventilation systems positioned 50 cm from the person's face. These systems are characterized by the ability to change the rates of airflow (ATD). Experimental studies and results were conducted on a thermal manikin that simulates the human body in a sitting position, and the results are compared with CFD analysis using the k-epsilon and the RNG turbulent models. The experimental study focused on measuring the speed and temperature of the air… More >

CFD ANALYSIS OF FREE CONVECTION IN NON-DARCIAN POROUS MEDIUM AND COMPARISON WITH SIMILARITY APPROACH

Elyazid Flilihia,† , Mohammed Sritib, Driss Achemlala, Mohamed El harouic

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.17, pp. 1-6, 2021, DOI:10.5098/hmt.17.7

Abstract In this work, a numerical simulation of steady and laminar free convection flow over a heated vertical flat plate embedded in a saturated porous medium by a Newtonian fluid is presented and analyzed. The Brinkman-Forchheimer extension of Darcy’s law has been adopted to describe the movement of fluid within the porous matrix. A numerical solution of the governing continuity, momentum and energy equations was made with the appropriate boundary conditions using ANSYS/FLUENT software based on finite volume method. The found results are graphically presented and physically discussed for main controling parameters. Subsequently, we compared our CFD calculation by the results… More >

Abderraouf Dahmania,∗ , José Muñoz-Cámarab, Juan Pedro Solanob, Samir Laouedja

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.18, pp. 1-8, 2022, DOI:10.5098/hmt.18.42

Abstract In this paper, a steady and laminar flow of ferrofluid (Fe3O4/Water) in a uniformly heated tube under the effect of non-uniform magnetic field arranged periodically along the tube is numerically analyzed using the finite volume method. The analysis sheds light on the flow pattern, Nusselt number, friction factor and the Performance Evaluation Criterion, at laminar flow regime (102Re ≤ 103 ) and for various magnetic numbers (Mn = 0, 2.83 · 104 , 6.37 · 104 and 1.13 · 105 ). The obtained results show that the magnetic field generated by periodic arrangement of the wire pitches, forces… More >

    E. Flilihia,† , E. H. Sebbara, D. Achemlala, T. EL Rhafikia, M. Sritib, E. Chaabelasric

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.18, pp. 1-6, 2022, DOI:10.5098/hmt.18.39

Abstract In this paper, we made a numerical simulation of convective heat transfer in a rectangular section pipe of a air flat plate solar collector using three forms of the absorber plate namely, simple shape, rectangular-shape, and half circle-shape. The flow is considered laminar and stationary, where the heat exchange between the absorber plate and the fluid takes place in useful area. The computer code in fluid dynamics, the fluent, is applied to integrate the governing equations on each control volume. A detailed description of the fluid flow and heat transfer in the rectangular channel was made. Several simulation were carried… More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.18, pp. 1-9, 2022, DOI:10.5098/hmt.18.29

Abstract This paper describes the effects of a combination of rib and pulsating flow on heat transfer enhancement in an mm-scale model that simulates the narrow flow passages in cooling devices of downsized electronic equipment. This research aims to develop a novel water cooling device that increases heat transfer performance while inhibiting pumping power. Our recent study has reported that a combination of pulsating flow and rib could enhance heat transfer performance relative to the simple duct. In the present study, to verify the optimal rib height for improving heat transfer by pulsating flow, we evaluated the relationship between heat transfer… More >

    Amnart Boonloia, Withada Jedsadaratanachaib,*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.18, pp. 1-15, 2022, DOI:10.5098/hmt.18.20

Abstract Numerical analysis of fluid flow mechanism and heat transfer in a heat exchanger duct (HXD) with dual-inclined baffles (DIB) are reported. Three DIB types are examined: 1. “Type A” is located at the center of the HXD, 2. “Type B” is located on the upper-lower duct walls (as an orifice) and 3. “Type C” is a combination of the type A and B (as double orifices). The impacts of the ratio of DIB heights (b) to the square duct height (H; b/H) on increased heat transfer and friction loss are analyzed. Laminar flow (Re = 100 – 2000 based on… More >
