Reinforcing Effect of Compatibilizers Containing Oxazoline Groups in Liquid Crystalline Polymer/ Polypropylene Blending Material

    SHOGO TAKASUKA1,*, TATSUHIRO TAKAHASHI1

    Journal of Polymer Materials, Vol.38, No.1-2, pp. 1-10, 2021, DOI:10.32381/JPM.2021.38.1-2.1

Abstract The effects of compounds containing oxazoline groups and the presence of maleic anhydridegrafted polypropylene (PP-g-MAH) on the spectral, morphological, and tensile properties of polypropylene (PP)/liquid crystalline polymer (LCP) blends were investigated. A wholly aromatic LCP having a low melting point which was copolyester, namely AL-7000 have been used, because thermal decomposition of PP and compatibilizer must be prevented.Compression molding was selected as the molding method because it allows molding with a small amount of sample. The binary blends of PP and LCP showed a degradation of tensile properties compared to pure PP. However, the addition of 2,2'-bis(2-oxazoline) and PP-g-MAH as… More >

Study on the Weathering Performance of Polypropylene by Artificial Accelerated Aging and Natural Aging

    MINGYU HE1, AMATJAN SAWUT1, LI GUAN2, YING LI1, MAMATJAN YIMIT2

    Journal of Polymer Materials, Vol.38, No.3-4, pp. 191-203, 2021, DOI:10.32381/JPM.2021.38.3-4.2

Abstract The weathering performance of polypropylene (PP) was studied in an artificial accelerated weathering chamber of 340 nm ultraviolet light and natural conditions in Turpan, China. This work aimed to provide a method for calculating the aging failure of PP under natural conditions by the means of artificial accelerated aging. SEM showed that large crack widths of approximately 1.25 µm and 1.63 µm appealed on the PP surface after 15 days artificial accelerated aging and 150 days natural aging, respectively. XPS data revealed that the number of C-O and C=O bonds on the PP surface were generally the same after artificial… More >

Tensile Failure Characterization of Glass/Epoxy Composites using Acoustic Emission RMS Data

    K. KRISHNAMOORTHYa,*, N. PRABHUb

    Journal of Polymer Materials, Vol.40, No.3-4, pp. 215-226, 2023, DOI:10.32381/JPM.2023.40.3-4.7

Abstract The acoustic emission monitoring with artificial neural networks predicts the ultimate strength of glass/epoxy composite laminates using Acoustic Emission Data. The ultimate loads of all the specimens were used to characterise the emission of hits during failure modes. The six layered glass fiber laminates were prepared (in woven mat form) with epoxy as the binding medium by hand lay-up technique. At room temperature, with a pressure of 30 kg/cm2, the laminates were cured. The laminates of standard dimensions as per ASTM D3039 for the tensile test were cut from the lamina. The Acoustic Emission (AE) test was conducted on these… More >

    Hongjun Zhang1,2, Hao Zhang2, Yu Lei3, Hao Ye1, Peng Li1,*, Desheng Shi1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.78, No.3, pp. 4109-4128, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.048355

Abstract The study delves into the expanding role of network platforms in our daily lives, encompassing various mediums like blogs, forums, online chats, and prominent social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. While these platforms offer avenues for self-expression and community support, they concurrently harbor negative impacts, fostering antisocial behaviors like phishing, impersonation, hate speech, cyberbullying, cyberstalking, cyberterrorism, fake news propagation, spamming, and fraud. Notably, individuals also leverage these platforms to connect with authorities and seek aid during disasters. The overarching objective of this research is to address the dual nature of network platforms by proposing innovative methodologies aimed… More >

Path Planning for AUVs Based on Improved APF-AC Algorithm

Guojun Chen*, Danguo Cheng, Wei Chen, Xue Yang, Tiezheng Guo

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.78, No.3, pp. 3721-3741, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.047325

Abstract With the increase in ocean exploration activities and underwater development, the autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) has been widely used as a type of underwater automation equipment in the detection of underwater environments. However, nowadays AUVs generally have drawbacks such as weak endurance, low intelligence, and poor detection ability. The research and implementation of path-planning methods are the premise of AUVs to achieve actual tasks. To improve the underwater operation ability of the AUV, this paper studies the typical problems of path-planning for the ant colony algorithm and the artificial potential field algorithm. In response to the limitations of a single… More >

A Review of Computing with Spiking Neural Networks

Jiadong Wu, Yinan Wang*, Zhiwei Li*, Lun Lu, Qingjiang Li

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.78, No.3, pp. 2909-2939, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.047240

Abstract Artificial neural networks (ANNs) have led to landmark changes in many fields, but they still differ significantly from the mechanisms of real biological neural networks and face problems such as high computing costs, excessive computing power, and so on. Spiking neural networks (SNNs) provide a new approach combined with brain-like science to improve the computational energy efficiency, computational architecture, and biological credibility of current deep learning applications. In the early stage of development, its poor performance hindered the application of SNNs in real-world scenarios. In recent years, SNNs have made great progress in computational performance and practicability compared with the… More >

Fake News Detection Based on Text-Modal Dominance and Fusing Multiple Multi-Model Clues

    Lifang Fu1, Huanxin Peng2,*, Changjin Ma2, Yuhan Liu2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.78, No.3, pp. 4399-4416, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.047053

Abstract In recent years, how to efficiently and accurately identify multi-model fake news has become more challenging. First, multi-model data provides more evidence but not all are equally important. Secondly, social structure information has proven to be effective in fake news detection and how to combine it while reducing the noise information is critical. Unfortunately, existing approaches fail to handle these problems. This paper proposes a multi-model fake news detection framework based on Tex-modal Dominance and fusing Multiple Multi-model Cues (TD-MMC), which utilizes three valuable multi-model clues: text-model importance, text-image complementary, and text-image inconsistency. TD-MMC is dominated by textural content and… More >

A Robust Method of Bipolar Mental Illness Detection from Facial Micro Expressions Using Machine Learning Methods

    Ghulam Gilanie1,*, Sana Cheema1, Akkasha Latif1, Anum Saher1, Muhammad Ahsan1, Hafeez Ullah2, Diya Oommen3

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.39, No.1, pp. 57-71, 2024, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2024.041535

Abstract Bipolar disorder is a serious mental condition that may be caused by any kind of stress or emotional upset experienced by the patient. It affects a large percentage of people globally, who fluctuate between depression and mania, or vice versa. A pleasant or unpleasant mood is more than a reflection of a state of mind. Normally, it is a difficult task to analyze through physical examination due to a large patient-psychiatrist ratio, so automated procedures are the best options to diagnose and verify the severity of bipolar. In this research work, facial micro-expressions have been used for bipolar detection using… More >
