    Abstract In this study, we focus on the numerical modelling of the interaction between waves and submerged structures in the presence of a uniform flow current. Both the same and opposite senses of wave propagation are considered.     Abstract In this study, numerical simulations of the pinching-off phenomena displayed by the dispersed phase in a continuous phase have been conducted using COMSOL Multiphysics (level-set method). Four flow patterns, namely “drop flow”, “jet flow”, “squeeze flow”, and “co-flow”, have been obtained for different flow velocity ratios, channel diameter ratios, density ratios, viscosity ratios, and surface tension.     Abstract A three-dimensional numerical simulation is conducted for a complex process in a laser-material system, which involves heat and mass transfer in a compressible gaseous phase and chemical reaction during laser irradiation on a urethane paint coated on a stainless steel substrate. A finite volume method (FVM) with a co-located grid mesh that discretizes the entire computational domain is employed to simulate the heating process.     Abstract Combustion mechanism of a 300 MW pulverized coal boiler is analyzed and the optimization of the performance of the boiler is carried out. The flow field, temperature field, devolatilization, char combustion and CO generation in the boiler furnace under actual condition is obtained by using Fluent. Three methods to improve the efficiency of boiler combustion are proposed based on the pulverized coal combustion mechanism; their feasibilities are verified through numerical simulation and analysis. The three proposed methods to increase the combustion efficiency may give theoretical reference for air arrangement and combustion optimization of the same type of burners. More >

    Abstract Aminated tannins were prepared by reacting mimosa condensed tannin extract with ammonia yielding the substitution of many, if not all of the tannin hydroxyl groups with –NH2 groups. A tannin-aminated tannin (ATT) particleboard coating was then prepared by reacting raw tannin extract with aminated tannin extract and thus cross-liking the two by substituting tannin’s hydroxyl groups with the –NH2 groups on the aminated tannin to form –NH-bridges between the two.     Effect of Bio-Based Organic‒Inorganic Hybrid Hydrogels on Fire Prevention of Spontaneous Combustion of Coals

    Abstract To solve the fire accidents caused by coal combustion, this work prepared four hybrid hydrogel materials using bio-based polymers, flame retardants, and inorganic materials. Compared to pure water and 3.5 wt% MgCl2 solution, the as-prepared hydrogel presents good fire prevention performance. In addition, it is found that CO and CO2 are not produced by coal when the pyrolysis temperature is lower than 200°C. During low-temperature pyrolysis, CO is more likely to be produced than CO2, indicating inadequate pyrolysis behavior.
