Will Coal Price Fluctuations Affect Renewable Energy Substitution and Carbon Emission? A Computable General Equilibrium-Based Study of China

    Wenhui Zhao1, Yibo Yin1,*, Lu Mao2, Konglu Zhong3, Guanghui Yuan4, Hai Huang5, Yige Yang6

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.4, pp. 1009-1026, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2021.014650

Abstract Changes in the energy price system will determine the direction of evolution of the energy industry structure. As a country where coal is the dominant energy source, what is the effect of coal price fluctuations on China’s industry development costs and energy consumption structure? To investigate this problem, this paper utilized an economy–energy–environment computable general equilibrium model. In this study, four aspects were analyzed: Energy supply side, proportion of renewable energy consumption, macroeconomy, and changes in CO2 emissions. The results of this study show that an increase of 10%–20% in coal prices contributes to a shift into using renewable energy,… More >

    Weifeng Gong1,2, Baoqing Zhu3, Chuanhui Wang1,*, Zhenyue Fan1, Mengzhen Zhao1, Liang Chen4

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.4, pp. 981-994, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2021.014554

Abstract An in-depth study of the energy related carbon emissions has important practical significance for carbon emissions reduction and structural adjustment in Shandong Province and throughout China. Based on the perspective of industrial structure, the expanded KAYA equation to measure the energy related carbon emissions of the primary industries (Resources and Agriculture) and secondary industries (Manufacturing and Construction) and tertiary industries (Retail and Service) was utilized in Shandong Province from 2011 to 2017. The carbon emissions among industries in Shandong Province were empirically analyzed using the Logarithmic Mean Divisia Index decomposition approach. The results were follows: (1) Under the three industrial… More >

Impact of Demographic Transition on Household Energy Consumption: A Case from China

Dequn Zhou, Xinyi Gu, Hao Ding*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.4, pp. 961-979, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2021.014101

Abstract Understanding how aging population and low fertility affect household energy consumption is important for optimizing household energy consumption and reaching effective policies. This paper studies the impacts of demographic transition on household energy consumption based on panel data of 30 provinces in China from 2005 to 2016. Child-age dependency rate (CDR) and old-age dependency rate (ODR) are selected to track the shifts in age structure. They are introduced into a STIRPAT model to measure their impacts on household energy consumption. Besides, 8 representative regions are additionally chosen and investigated to find some regional characteristics. The results show that current demographic… More >

Abstract Opuntia Milpa Alta is a cactus cultivated, domesticated, hybridized and selected from the plant Opuntia ficus-indica by Mexican agricultural experts, which can be used as fruit and vegetable. Opuntia Milpa Alta leaves and fruit are superior to wild varieties and suitable for storage and transportation. In 1998, Opuntia Milpa Alta was introduced to China from Mexico by the Quality Product Development Center of the Ministry of Agriculture of China. Up to now, the Opuntia Milpa Alta has been cultivated on a certain scale in China. This study aims to identify the research progress and development trends of Opuntia Milpa Alta… More >

Spatiotemporal Characteristics of Traffic Accidents in China, 2016–2019

    Pengfei Gong1,2, Qun Wang2,*, Junjun Zhu3

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.29, No.1, pp. 31-42, 2021, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2021.017695

Abstract This study analyzed in-depth investigation reports for 418 traffic accidents with at least five deaths (TALFDs) in China from 2016 to 2019. Statistical analysis methods including hierarchical cluster analysis were employed to examine the distribution characteristics of these accidents. Accidents were found to be concentrated in July and August, and the distribution over the seven days of the week was relatively uniform; only Sunday had a higher number of accidents and deaths. In terms of 24-hour distribution, the one-hour periods with the most accidents and deaths were 8:00–9:00, 10:00–11:00, 14:00–15:00, and 18:00–19:00. Tibet, Qinghai, and Ningxia had the highest death… More >

Unpacking the Associations between Traumatic Events and Depression among Chinese Elderly: Two Dimensions of Aging Attitudes as Mediators and Moderators

    Chaoxin Jiang*

    International Journal of Mental Health Promotion, Vol.23, No.2, pp. 231-242, 2021, DOI:10.32604/IJMHP.2021.015253

Abstract Traumatic events have been considered significant risk factors for older adults’ mental health, but the mediating mechanism and moderating effect of aging attitudes that underlie this relationship have yet been completely investigated. The attitudes of the elderly toward aging can be divided into two closely related but conceptually different dimensions, including positive and negative. Positive aging attitudes refer to optimistic feelings and experiences about aging, whereas negative attitudes toward aging are related to detrimental thoughts and sensations experienced about the increasing age. The purpose of this study is to explore the mediating and moderating roles of these two dimensions of… More >

Incidence, genomic diversity, and evolution of strawberry mottle virus in China

LINGJIAO FAN, CHENGYONG HE, MENGMENG WU, DEHANG GAO, ZHENFEI DONG, SHENGFAN HOU, ZEKUN FENG, HONGQING WANG*

    BIOCELL, Vol.45, No.4, pp. 1137-1151, 2021, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2021.015396

Abstract Strawberry mottle virus (SMoV) is one of the most common viruses infecting strawberries, causing losses to fruit yield and quality. In this study, 165 strawberry leaf samples were collected from six provinces of China, 46 of which tested positive for SMoV. The complete genome sequences of 11 SMoV isolates were obtained from Liaoning (DGHY3, DGHY16-2, DGHY17, DGHY20-2, DGHY21, DGHY26-2), Shandong (SDHY1, SDHY5, SDHY31-2, SDHY33-2), and Beijing (BJMX7). The RNA1 and RNA2 nucleotide identities between the 11 Chinese isolates were 95.4–99.3% and 96.3–99.6%, respectively, and they shared 78.4–96.6% and 84.8–93.5% identities with the available SMoV isolates in GenBank. Recombination analysis revealed… More >

    Jianguo Zhang1, Biao Hu2,*, Xiyuan Li1, Hongxing Zhou2, Zhixu Dai3, Yanlei Lu3, Deyang Wang2

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.3, pp. 605-614, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2021.014655

Abstract To accurately predict the risk of coal and gas outburst and evaluate the reliability of desorption indexes of drilling cuttings (K1 and ∆h2) in No. 16 coal seam of Pingmei No. 12 coal mine, two sets of coal samples were selected from the target coal seams for proximate analyses, methane adsorption/desorption tests, and desorption indexes of drilling cuttings tests. The results indicated that the desorption volume in the initial stage of desorption is large, and increases slowly in the later stage. The methane desorption volume of PMD1 and PMD2 coal samples accounts for 15.14%–18.09% and 15.72%–18.17% respectively in the first… More >
