Abstract Background: The European Congenital Heart Surgeons Association (ECHSA) Congenital Heart Surgery Database (CHSD) was founded in 1999 and is open for worldwide participation. The current dataset includes a large amount of surgical data from both Europe and China. The purpose of this analysis is to compare patterns of practice and outcomes among pediatric congenital heart defect surgeries in Europe and China using the ECHSA-CHSD. Methods: We examined all European (125 centers, 58,261 operations) and Chinese (13 centers, 23,920 operations) data in the ECHSA-CHSD from 2006-2018. Operative mortality, postoperative length of stay, median patient age and weight were calculated for the… More >

Xuesong Xu, Hongyan Shao, Shengjie Yang*, Rongyuan Chen

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.26, No.5, pp. 1063-1072, 2020, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2020.010137

Abstract The aim of this study is to consider the economic, resource, energy and environmental factors in a low-carbon economic efficiency evaluation system and to analyze the factors affecting iron and steel enterprises. A combined data envelopment analysis and Malmquist index model have been used in this paper. We empirically investigate the low-carbon efficiency of the Chinese steel industry using observations of 17 listed enterprises from 2009 to 2013. The results show that the economic efficiency of China’s iron & steel enterprises is generally low. The Malmquist productivity index also shows a decreasing trend. Based on our findings, some policies are… More >

Prediction and Analysis of Surface Quality of Northeast China Ash Wood during Water-Jet Assisted CO2 Laser Cutting

    Ting Jiang1,3, Chunmei Yang1,2,*, Yueqiang Yu3, Bakary S. Doumbia1,2, Jiuqing Liu1,*, Yan Ma1,2

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.9, No.1, pp. 119-128, 2021, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2021.011490

    Abstract

As a natural and environmentally friendly renewable material, Northeast China ash wood (NCAW) (Fraxinus mandshurica Rupr.) was cut by water-jet assisted CO2 laser (WACL), the surface quality was evaluated by surface roughness of cut section. The surface roughness was measured by three-dimensional (3D) profilometry. Furthermore, the micromorphology of machined surface was observed by scanning electronic microscopy (SEM). Carbon content changes of machined surface were measured by energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS). A relationship between surface roughness and cutting parameters was established using response surface methodology (RSM). It is concluded that the cutting speed, laser power and water pressure played an important… More >

Abstract The flow of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has affected almost every aspect of human life around the globe. Being the emerging ground and early sufferer of the virus, Wuhan city-data remains a case of multifold significance. Further, it is of notable importance to explore the impact of unique and unprecedented public health response of Chinese authorities—the extreme lockdown of the city. In this research, we investigate the statistical nature of the viral transmission concerning social distancing, extreme quarantine, and robust lockdown interventions. We observed highly convincing and statistically significant evidences in favor of quarantine and social distancing approaches. These findings might… More >

Species Diversity of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi in the Rhizosphere of Hevea brasiliensis in Hainan Island, China

    Xiubing Gao1,3, Jiejie Lv2, Can Guo1, Anlong Hu3, Xiaomao Wu3, Zengping Li4,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.90, No.1, pp. 179-192, 2021, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2021.012968

Abstract Hevea brasiliensis is one of the important economic trees with a great economic value for natural rubber production. Symbiosis between roots of H. brasiliensis and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) is widely recognized, and can provide a range of benefits for both of them. Hainan Island harbors is one of the largest plantations of H. brasiliensis in China, whereas the information regarding the diversity of AMF in the rhizosphere of H. brasiliensis on this island is scarce. The diversity of AMF species in the rhizosphere of rubber tree plantations in Hainan was investigated in this study. A total of 72 soil… More >

The Influence of Two Natural Reinforcement Fibers on the Hygrothermal Properties of Earthen Plasters in Mogao Grottoes of China

    Wenbei Bi1, Zengfeng Yan1,*, Huan Zhao1, Lixin Sun2, Xudong Wang3,4, Zhengmo Zhang3

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.8, No.12, pp. 1691-1710, 2020, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2020.012808

Abstract Murals in Mogao Grottoes consist of three parts: support layer, earthen plasters and paint layer. The earthen plasters play a key role in the preservation of murals. It is a mixture of Dengban soil, sand, and plant fiber. Two different natural fibers, hemp fiber and cotton fiber, were reinforced to earthen plasters in the same percentage to evaluate the influence on hygrothermal performance. The two types of earthen plasters were studied: one containing hemp fiber in the fine plaster (HFP) and the other containing cotton fiber in the fine plaster (CFP). Specific heat capacity, dry thermal conductivity, water vapor permeability,… More >

Abstract Pedicularis longiflora var. tubiformis (Orobanchaceae) is an abundant parasitic herb mainly found in the Xiaopohu wetland of the Qinghai Lake Basin in Northwestern China. The species has an important local medicinal value, and in this study, we evaluated the chemical profile of its stems, leaves and seeds using mass spectrometry. Dried samples of stems, leaves and seeds were grinded, weighted, and used for a series of extractions with an ultrasonic device at room temperature. The chemical profiles for each tissue were determined using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) and Liquid ChromatographyMass Spectrometry (LC-MS). Twenty-seven amino acids and organic acids were identified… More >

A Novel Hybrid Intelligent Prediction Model for Valley Deformation: A Case Study in Xiluodu Reservoir Region, China

    Mengcheng Sun1,2, Weiya Xu1,2,*, Huanling Wang1,3, Qingxiang Meng1,2, Long Yan1,2, Wei-Chau Xie4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.66, No.1, pp. 1057-1074, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.012537

Abstract The narrowing deformation of reservoir valley during the initial operation period threatens the long-term safety of the dam, and an accurate prediction of valley deformation (VD) remains a challenging part of risk mitigation. In order to enhance the accuracy of VD prediction, a novel hybrid model combining Ensemble empirical mode decomposition based interval threshold denoising (EEMD-ITD), Differential evolutions—Shuffled frog leaping algorithm (DE-SFLA) and Least squares support vector machine (LSSVM) is proposed. The non-stationary VD series is firstly decomposed into several stationary subseries by EEMD; then, ITD is applied for redundant information denoising on special sub-series, and the denoised deformation is… More >
