Abstract Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) has been widely used for studying intracranial aneurysm hemodynamics, while its use for guiding clinical strategy is still in development. In this study, CFD simulations helped inform treatment decision for a middle cerebral artery (MCA) aneurysm case was investigated. A patient with a 10.4 × 9.8 mm aneurysm attached with a small aneurysm at the edge of the trifurcation in the left MCA was included in this study. For removing the MCA aneurysm, two scenarios were considered: Plan-A involved clipping the small aneurysm and Plan-B involved clipping the whole aneurysm. A… More >

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.8, No.3, pp. 289-300, 2020, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2020.08897 - 01 March 2020

Abstract The plasticizer is an important polymer material additive. Non-toxic and environmentally friendly plasticizers are developed recently in order to decrease fossil fuel reserves, serious environmental pollution and the toxicity of phthalate esters. In this study, a new, efficient and environmentally friendly plasticizer of hydrogenated rosin dodecyl ester was prepared by an esterification reaction of hydrogenated rosin and dodecanol. The influences of different reaction conditions (including different catalysts, the catalyst concentration, the ratio of the reactants, reaction temperature, and reaction time) on the esterification yield are examined and discussed. Hydrogenated rosin dodecyl ester with 71.8% yield More >

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.89, No.1, pp. 71-86, 2020, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2020.07180 - 01 March 2020

Abstract The heavy metals present in the environment accumulate in the plants and affect their productivity and yield. By entering the food chain, metals cause several serious health problems in human beings as well as in other organisms. Indole acetic acid (IAA) is known to act as a signaling molecule between symbiotic association of metal accumulating plants and plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR). Present study demonstrated a protective role of IAA against surplus Zinc (Zn)-induced toxicity to Hordeum vulgare seedlings. Elevated Zn concentrations suppressed the plant growth, caused a reduction in leaf relative water contents (RWC) and More >

A Formal Method for Service Choreography Verification Based on Description Logic

    Tingting Zhang1, 2, 3, *, Yushi Lan2, Minggang Yu1, Changyou Zheng1, Kun Liu1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.62, No.2, pp. 893-904, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.06216

Abstract Web Services Choreography Description Language lacks a formal system to accurately express the semantics of service behaviors and verify the correctness of a service choreography model. This paper presents a new approach of choreography model verification based on Description Logic. A meta model of service choreography is built to provide a conceptual framework to capture the formal syntax and semantics of service choreography. Based on the framework, a set of rules and constraints are defined in Description Logic for choreography model verification. To automate model verification, the UML-based service choreography model will be transformed, by More >

    Canadian Journal of Urology, Vol.26, No.1, pp. 9644-9653, 2019

Abstract Introduction: Neurovascular bundle (NVB) preservation during robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) directly affects patient functional outcomes. Despite careful surgical planning, many NVB preservation techniques are changed intraoperatively from their preoperative plan. Our objective was to identify risk factors predicting intraoperative change in NVB preservation technique during RARP.
Materials and methods: Prospective data from 578 RARPs performed by a single surgeon between 2010 and 2017 at a tertiary care center. Side-specific NVB preservation technique was planned preoperatively. Surgical techniques were either complete nerve sparing (CNS), or incomplete nerve sparing (INS). Variables included age, tumor grade, prostate volume, number of… More >

    Canadian Journal of Urology, Vol.26, No.4, pp. 9867-9870, 2019

Abstract Intracavernosal self-injection (ICI) is an effective treatment for erectile dysfunction. A rare but serious complication is needle breakage. We report an unusual case of a 51-year-old transgender female patient who did not desire gender-affirming surgery, and used ICI to treat her longstanding erectile dysfunction. She presented to the emergency department 2 months after needle breakage during ICI, and was subsequently successfully treated with intraoperative fluoroscopy and needle fragment extraction. It is important to recognize transgender patients may desire to preserve sexual function, and for providers to engage in discussion surrounding sexual health throughout treatment for More >

Improved Corrosion Resistance of Carbon Reinforced Aluminium Laminates in Atmospheric Environment: Role of Environment Friendly Jute Fibre/ Alumina nano Coating

    M. VASUMATHI1,a,*, VELA MURALI2,b, S. RASHIA BEGUM1,c, N. RAJENDRAN2,d

    Journal of Polymer Materials, Vol.36, No.1, pp. 1-11, 2019, DOI:10.32381/JPM.2019.36.01.1

Abstract In the Fibre Metal Laminate (FML), Carbon Reinforced Aluminium laminate (CARALL), aluminium is placed next to carbon fibres. The potential difference between the aluminium and carbon is larger, leads to galvanic corrosion, which tries to bring down the durability of the FML. To bring down the effect of corrosion, a material layer is introduced between fibres and aluminium so as to separate them thus lowering the possibility of occurrence of corrosion. Another approach is to coat the surfaces of aluminium with different proportions of aluminium oxide nano particles prior to fabrication of the FML. For More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.13, pp. 1-6, 2019, DOI:10.5098/hmt.13.13

Abstract A hybrid cellular automaton model combined with a finite element method for thermal topology optimization of spindle structure is developed. The higher order 8-node element and von Neumann strategy are employed for the finite element and the cellular element, respectively. The local sensitivity filtering algorithm and the weight approach are applied. The four validating studies of two-dimensional structure for thermal topology optimization are carried out. The structure evolution and thermal distribution evolution of thermal topology optimization are investigated. The results show the developed hybrid method is more efficient for thermal topology optimization. Meanwhile, the thermal More >

Abstract Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) frequently occurs in lymphoma patients receiving R-CHOP, a drug combination therapy. Although severe CIPN may lead to reduction and/or discontinuation of the medication, predictive factors of CIPN have not been investigated sufficiently to date. We performed a retrospective exploratory research to determine associations between prevalence of severe CIPN and sociodemographic data, health characteristics, and medical conditions such as anemia at initial diagnosis. Forty patients (indolent lymphoma, n=9; diffuse large B-cell lymphoma; n=31) received R-CHOP therapy from September 2009 to July 2014. The median age of patients was 58 years (range=27–76 years). An Upper Bound of Task Loads in a Deadline-D All Busy Period for Multiprocessor Global EDF Real-Time Systems

    Fengxiang Zhang

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.34, No.4, pp. 171-178, 2019, DOI:10.32604/csse.2019.34.171

Abstract This paper addresses a number of mathematical issues related to multiprocessor global EDF platforms. We present a deadline-d all busy period and backward interference which are important concepts for multiprocessor EDF systems, and some general schedulability conditions for any studied job are proposed. We formally prove that at most m-1 different tasks’ jobs could contribute their execution time to an interval starting with a Pbusy−d, and we propose an approach for computing an exact upper bound of the total deadline-d task load in a given interval. Therefore, the proposed results are important foundations for constructing exact More >
