Dietary Inclusions and Exclusions: Preparation Against Cancer

    Dheeraj Kumar Sharma1, Ahsas Goyal2,*, Shashank Chaturvedi2,*

    Oncologie, Vol.22, No.4, pp. 213-224, 2020, DOI:10.32604/oncologie.2020.014926

Abstract Cancer results due to an imbalance between regulation of cell proliferation and apoptosis. As per the latest data released by World Health Organization (WHO), a large part of global population cannot access proper anticancer therapy, and this imposes a burden of approximately US$ 1.16 trillion on global economy. Relevant studies were identified through electronic searches of Pubmed, Medline, Scopus, Google scholar. In this review, we found that there is extensive range of dietary items whose components can influence either cell proliferation rate or cell death rate or both. Exclusion and avoidance of several dietary items/habits are linked with reduced risk… More >

    Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.15, No.6, pp. 447-455, 2020, DOI:10.32604/CHD.2020.012927

Abstract Introduction: In children, data on the effects on carnitine supplementation and myocardial function are limited. A few studies have investigated the relationship between serum carnitine levels in the setting of depressed cardiac function and have demonstrated possible benefits. As such, this systematic review and meta-analyses aimed to assess the effects carnitine supplementation on left ventricular function. Materials and Methods: A systematic review of the literature was performed to identify full text manuscripts in English. PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane databases were queried. Studies were included with data from pediatric patients, that used carnitine supplementation and included preand post-carnitine data for… More >

    Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics, Vol.17, No.4, pp. 155-163, 2020, DOI:10.32604/mcb.2020.011532

Abstract Diabetes mellitus (DM) disease can affect process of apoptosis by increasing oxidative stress, nevertheless exercise and crocin can improve apoptosis; therefore present study aimed to investigate the effect of continued training with crocin on apoptosis markers in liver tissue of diabetic rats. In this experimental study 32 diabetic rats based on fasting glucose divided into four groups of eight rats including: 1) sham, 2) training, 3) crocin, and 4) training with crocin also for investigate the effect of DM induction on apoptosis markers, eight healthy rats assigned in healthy control group. During eight weeks groups 2 and 4 ran 60… More >

Effect of chemical mutagens and X-rays on morphological and physiological traits of tulips

    edaghathoor S, F Sharifi, A Eslami

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.86, pp. 252-257, 2017, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2017.86.252

Abstract The tulip (Tulipa sp.) is an ornamental plant produced by bulbs. Wild tulips are native to several areas of Iran, especially the Alborz and Zagros mountains. Endemic Iranian tulips are the origin of some commercial cultivars of tulip, and mutagens are commonly used to produce new traits and varieties. In this trial, X-rays were applied at 60, 70 and 80 kV; sodium azide (SA) at doses of 0.01%, 0.02%, and 0.03%, and diethyl sulfate (DES) at doses of 0.1%, 0.2% and 0.4 on Kess Nelis and Jan Van Ness varieties of tulip. Morphophysiological traits of the treated plants were measured.… More >

Adjuvant effects of Lactobacillus casei added to a renutrition diet in a malnourished mouse model

    PAOLA GAUFFIN CANO1 , GRACIELA AGÜERO3, GABRIELA PERDIGON1,2

    BIOCELL, Vol.26, No.1, pp. 35-48, 2002, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2002.26.035

Abstract Nutritional deficiencies are associated with impaired immune response, affecting the body’s defence mechanisms. It is also known that Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB) and fermented products such us yogurt have immunopotentiator activity and nutritional properties, and could thus be used as a valuable supplement in a renutrition diet. The aim of this study was to determine, in a non-severe malnutrition model, the effective dose of Lactobacillus casei (L.casei), which when is used as an adjuvant in a renutrition diet, would modulate the mucosal immune system and induce recovery of the integrity of the intestinal barrier. The experiments were performed on groups… More >

MicroRNA expression profile and lipid metabolism characteristics in liver of rat undergoing high-fat diet

    Wen JING1,§, Chuanfen LI2,3,§, Yingli LU4, Lianshi FENG4

    BIOCELL, Vol.43, No.3, pp. 129-138, 2019, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2019.06087

Abstract This study aimed to investigate the microRNA expression profile and the characteristics of lipid metabolism in the livers of rats undergoing a high-fat diet. Fifty male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were divided into a standard chow group (C group, N = 10) and a high-fat diet group (H group, N = 40). After 12 weeks, the rat body weight, body length, fat mass, and serum lipid concentration were measured. The expression profile of microRNAs and the gene and protein expression levels involved in lipid metabolism in rat liver were detected. Body fat and serum lipid concentrations were all significantly higher in… More >
