    Mo Zhou1, Jingming Zhao1, Zili Chen2,*, Qiushi Fang1, Hua Li1, Zhaoyuan Wu2

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.10, pp. 3037-3053, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2024.050842 - 11 September 2024

Abstract With the continuous expansion of the scale of renewable energy installation, the demand for energy storage has increased significantly. However, there are significant differences in the value of energy storage in different scenarios, and the phenomenon of diminishing marginal benefits of energy storage is becoming more apparent. Therefore, the multi-dimensional value evolution trend of energy storage has become a key issue. This study selects indicators from three dimensions of energy storage: low-carbon emission reduction, smoothing wind and solar power fluctuations, and saving generation costs, quantifying the economic, environmental, and technical values of energy storage. Abstract Power quality improvements help guide and solve the problems of inefficient energy production and unstable power output in wind power systems. The purpose of this paper is mainly to explore the influence of different energy storage batteries on various power quality indicators by adding different energy storage devices to the simulated wind power system, and to explore the correlation between system entropy generation and various indicators, so as to provide a theoretical basis for directly improving power quality by reducing loss. A steady-state experiment was performed by replacing the wind wheel with an electric motor,… More >

Slip Effects on Casson Nanofluid over a Stretching Sheet with Activation Energy: RSM Analysis

    Jawad Raza1, F. Mebarek-Oudina2,*, Haider Ali1, I. E. Sarris3

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.22, No.4, pp. 1017-1041, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2024.052749 - 30 August 2024

Abstract The current study is dedicated to presenting the Casson nanofluid over a stretching surface with activation energy. In order to make the problem more realistic, we employed magnetic field and slip effects on fluid flow. The governing partial differential equations (PDEs) were converted to ordinary differential equations (ODEs) by similarity variables and then solved numerically. The MATLAB built-in command ‘bvp4c’ is utilized to solve the system of ODEs. Central composite factorial design based response surface methodology (RSM) is also employed for optimization. For this, quadratic regression is used for data analysis. The results are concluded More > Graphic Abstract

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.22, No.4, pp. 1043-1070, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2024.049525 - 30 August 2024

Abstract This study is focused on the simulation and optimization of packed-bed solar thermal energy storage by using sand as a storage material and hot-water is used as a heat transfer fluid and storage as well. The analysis has been done by using the COMSOL multi-physics software and used to compute an optimization charging time of the storage. Parameters that control this optimization are storage height, storage diameter, heat transfer fluid flow rate, and sand bed particle size. The result of COMSOL multi-physics optimized thermal storage has been validated with Taguchi method. Accordingly, the optimized parameters… More >

Research on Leading Edge Erosion and Aerodynamic Characteristics of Wind Turbine Blade Airfoil

Xin Guan*, Yuqi Xie, Shuaijie Wang, Mingyang Li, Shiwei Wu

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.9, pp. 2045-2058, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2024.049671 - 23 August 2024

Abstract The effects of the erosion present on the leading edge of a wind turbine airfoil (DU 96-W-180) on its aerodynamic performances have been investigated numerically in the framework of a SST k–ω turbulence model based on the Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes equations (RANS). The results indicate that when sand-induced holes and small pits are involved as leading edge wear features, they have a minimal influence on the lift and drag coefficients of the airfoil. However, if delamination occurs in the same airfoil region, it significantly impacts the lift and resistance characteristics of the airfoil. Specifically, as More >

Abstract CO2 pre-injection during hydraulic fracturing is an important method for the development of medium to deep heavy oil reservoirs. It reduces the interfacial tension and viscosity of crude oil, enhances its flowability, maintains reservoir pressure, and increases reservoir drainage capacity. Taking the Badaowan Formation as an example, in this study a detailed three-dimensional geomechanical model based on static data from well logging interpretations is elaborated, which can take into account both vertical and horizontal geological variations and mechanical characteristics. A comprehensive analysis of the impact of key construction parameters on Pre-CO2 based fracturing (such as cluster More >

Bio-Inspired Intelligent Routing in WSN: Integrating Mayfly Optimization and Enhanced Ant Colony Optimization for Energy-Efficient Cluster Formation and Maintenance

    V. G. Saranya*, S. Karthik

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.141, No.1, pp. 127-150, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2024.053825 - 20 August 2024

Abstract Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are a collection of sensor nodes distributed in space and connected through wireless communication. The sensor nodes gather and store data about the real world around them. However, the nodes that are dependent on batteries will ultimately suffer an energy loss with time, which affects the lifetime of the network. This research proposes to achieve its primary goal by reducing energy consumption and increasing the network’s lifetime and stability. The present technique employs the hybrid Mayfly Optimization Algorithm-Enhanced Ant Colony Optimization (MFOA-EACO), where the Mayfly Optimization Algorithm (MFOA) is used to… More >
