A Comprehensive Utility Function for Resource Allocation in Mobile Edge Computing

    Zaiwar Ali1, Sadia Khaf2, Ziaul Haq Abbas2, Ghulam Abbas3, Lei Jiao4, Amna Irshad2, Kyung Sup Kwak5, Muhammad Bilal6,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.66, No.2, pp. 1461-1477, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.013743

Abstract In mobile edge computing (MEC), one of the important challenges is how much resources of which mobile edge server (MES) should be allocated to which user equipment (UE). The existing resource allocation schemes only consider CPU as the requested resource and assume utility for MESs as either a random variable or dependent on the requested CPU only. This paper presents a novel comprehensive utility function for resource allocation in MEC. The utility function considers the heterogeneous nature of applications that a UE offloads to MES. The proposed utility function considers all important parameters, including CPU, RAM, hard disk space, required… More >

Industry 4.0: Architecture and Equipment Revolution

Ahmed Bashar Fakhri1, Saleem Latteef Mohammed1, Imran Khan2, Ali Safaa Sadiq3,4, Basem Alkazemi5, Prashant Pillai4, Bong Jun Choi6,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.66, No.2, pp. 1175-1194, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.012587

Abstract The development of science and technology has led to the era of Industry 4.0. The core concept is the combination of “material and informationization”. In the supply chain and manufacturing process, the “material” of the physical entity world is realized by data, identity, intelligence, and information. Industry 4.0 is a disruptive transformation and upgrade of intelligent industrialization based on the Internet-of-Things and Big Data in traditional industrialization. The goal is “maximizing production efficiency, minimizing production costs, and maximizing the individual needs of human beings for products and services.” Achieving this goal will surely bring about a major leap in the… More >

A Method for Planning the Routes of Harvesting Equipment using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

    Vitaliy Mezhuyev1,*, Yurii Gunchenko2, Sergey Shvorov3, Dmitry Chyrchenko3

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.26, No.1, pp. 121-132, 2020, DOI:10.31209/2019.100000133

Abstract The widespread distribution of precision farming systems necessitates improvements in the methods for the control of unmanned harvesting equipment (UHE). While unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) provide an effective solution to this problem, there are many challenges in the implementation of technology. This paper considers the problem of identifying optimal routes of UHE movement as a multicriteria evaluation problem, which can be solved by a nonlinear scheme of compromises. The proposed method uses machine learning algorithms and statistical processing of the spectral characteristics obtained from UAV digital images. Developed method minimizes the resources needed for a harvesting campaign and reduces the… More >

Sox Compliance with OEE, Enterprise Modeling and Temporal-ABC

    K. Donald Thama, Asad M. Madnib

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.24, No.1, pp. 17-26, 2018, DOI:10.1080/10798587.2017.1284411

Abstract The Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Act 2002 resulted from the mounting accounting and corporate scandals in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Since the passage of the SOX Act, companies are facing even greater challenges to meet raised expectations to provide accurate, visible, and timely information for SOX compliance. This research puts forth a systems design framework to achieve a real time, accurate, consistently traceable and easily verifiable SOX compliant technology. Our multidisciplinary and integrative systems design incorporates Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) to ensure effective business performance within a knowledge represented company modeled as Enveloped Activity Based Enterprise Model (EABEM) that facilitates… More >

Prediction of Vibration Response of Satellite Equipment Panel in Consideration of Robustness

    Y. Adachi1, F. Sako1, S. Qinzhong2, S. Ando2, M. Tsuchihashi2, I. Hagiwara3

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.7, No.1, pp. 19-22, 2008, DOI:10.3970/icces.2008.007.019

Abstract In this paper, the vibration response of the satellite equipment panel during the launch phase is predicted in consideration of the robustness. By using a simplified model consisted of a panel and an acoustic cavity, Monte Carlo simulation in which analytical parameters are changed at random in the conceivable range of variation is done. From the result, the acceleration power spectral density (PSD) of the satellite equipment panel is obtained. After statistical processing, the effect of variation on the vibration response is estimated and the proper design criteria of the equipment are defined. More >

Small Vibration Measurement of Plant Equipment Using Sampling Moire Camera

    Motoharu Fujigaki*, Tomoaki Nakajima

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.21, No.1, pp. 2-2, 2019, DOI:10.32604/icces.2019.05156

Abstract A sampling moire camera was developed by authors to measure the displacement of large structures effectively. The sampling moire camera was applied to small vibration measurement of a plant equipment in this paper. An algorithm of a sampling moire method is assembled into the sampling moire camera. It is very convenient to use the sampling moire camera in a practical field outdoors because any calibration is not necessary. This camera can measure the 2-D displacement in real-time. An experiment to measure small vibration of a moving conveyor belt to carry materials in a steel plant was performed. A frequency analysis… More >

Application of MES System in Offshore Oil and Gas Field Production Management

    Yong Chen1,*, Weihua Lan1, Chong Wang2

    Journal on Big Data, Vol.1, No.2, pp. 47-54, 2019, DOI:10.32604/jbd.2019.06282

Abstract In order to solve information island problem of offshore oil and gas field production-related information system, including repetitive reporting and input of data, data isolation of central control system, inadequate follow-up analysis and development to support oil and gas field production management, and so on. Therefore, the introduction of MES (Manufacturing Execution System) production execution system in the manufacturing industry and downstream production of offshore oil has become an inevitable choice. This system utilizes the real-time database combined with relational database to collect the scattered structured data, such as the production process real-time data, production management documents and statistical tables… More >
