    The expressional level of tankyrase-1 gene and its regulation in colorectal cancer in a Saudi population

    Abstract Tankyrase1 plays an essential role in cancer progression by regulating telomere length. The study aimed to determine expression of TNKS1 and its regulation in colorectal cancer (CRC) in 20 samples from Saudi patients. mRNA expression of TNKS1 in CRC and paired normal tissues was measured by qRT-PCR. Epigenetic modification of TNKS1 promoter was determined by methylation-specific PCR while somatic mutation was analyzed by Sanger sequencing in exon 10 of the gene.     Abstract This paper investigates some practical aspects related to the use of the Theory of Critical Distances (TCD) when employed to estimate notch fatigue limits. The accuracy of different formalisations of the theory was checked by using experimental data taken from the literature. This exercise allowed us to confirm that the simplest formalisation of the TCD, in which both critical distance and critical stress are material constants [1], is also the most accurate one, giving predictions falling within an error interval of about ±20%.     Abstract An improved teaching-learning-based optimization (I-TLBO) algorithm is proposed to adjust the parameters of extreme learning machine with parallel layer perception (PELM), and a well-generalized I-TLBO-PELM model is obtained to build the model of NOX emissions of a boiler. In the I-TLBO algorithm, there are four major highlights. Firstly, a quantum initialized population by using the qubits on Bloch sphere replaces a randomly initialized population.     Abstract ωB-splines have many optimal properties and can reproduce plentiful commonly-used analytical curves. In this paper, we further propose a non-stationary subdivision method of hierarchically and efficiently generating ωB-spline curves of arbitrary order of ωB-spline curves and prove its Ck−2-continuity by two kinds of methods. The first method directly prove that the sequence of control polygons of subdivision of order k converges to a Ck−2-continuousωB-spline curve of order k.     Abstract In order to measure the attitude parameters of the projectile, a high-speed 3-dimensional digital image correlation (H3D-DIC) system is designed and constructed.     Abstract The Stress distribution of contact area in engineering structure is complex. Automatic whole-field measurement of photo-elasticity is a feasibility method to solve the contact problem. However, the problem of isoclinic and isochromatic interaction is important in phase-shifting techniques in photo-elasticity. The technique named 8-step phase shifting technique is applied to solve the problem of isoclinic fringe pattern influenced by isochromatic fringe patterns in integer order and half-integer order.
