Effect of the Wick Deflection Angles on Heat Transfer Characteristics for the Flat LHP

    Zhuohuan Hu1, Sixian Sun1, Chengwei Yuan1, Yan Cao2, Jiayin Xu1,*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.21, pp. 107-123, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2023.041837

Abstract Loop Heat Pipe (LHP) is an efficient two-phase heat transfer device, which can be used in waste heat recovery, electronics cooling, aerospace and other fields. The wick, the core component of LHP, plays an important role in its start-up and operation. In this paper, the wick fabricated by 3D printing technology had uniform and interconnected pores. In the experiment, the position of the parallel vapor removal grooves was always fixed towards the vapor outlet. When the cylindrical wick was placed in the evaporator, the rotation angle relative to its central axis could be changed, thus changing the number and shape… More > Graphic Abstract

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF LOOP HEAT PIPE – A REVIEW

    Hao Guoa , Xianbing Jia,b,1 , Jinliang Xua,b

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.14, pp. 1-16, 2020, DOI:10.5098/hmt.14.14

Abstract With fast development of electronic devices, novel strategies of thermal management have been received great attention to dissipate high heat fluxes. As an efficient heat transfer device, loop heat pipe (LHP) provides ideal solution for such purpose. Even though LHP was invented nearly half-century ago, challenges still exist on its design, fabrication and operation. The objective of this paper is to present a thorough review on LHPs, paying more attention on the working principle, advantage and configuration. The review is performed in three aspects. First, the macroscopic operation characteristics such as start-up, temperature fluctuations and anti-gravity operation are described. Second,… More >

BATTERY COOLING OPTIONS IN ELECTRIC VEHICLES WITH HEAT PIPES

Randeep Singha,*,†, Gero Lappa, Jason Velardob, Phan Thanh Longa, Masataka Mochizukic, Aliakbar Akbarzadehd, Abhijit Dated, Karsten Mausolfe, Kristin Bussee

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.16, pp. 1-8, 2021, DOI:10.5098/hmt.16.2

Abstract In this paper, different options, based on heat pipes, for thermal management of electric vehicle (EV) battery system, at cell, module and pack level, for 40 to 400 W output heat, has been explored, analysed and compared. Cooling architecture based on embedded heat pipe (EHP) with single phase pumped cold plate (CP), as most adaptable design for low to medium range EVs, while EHP with loop heat pipe (LHP) as high performance design for high-end carlines, has been classified as potential cooling systems. Experimentally, it was shown that EHPs will provide best performance for heat acquisition at cell/module level, while… More >
