    A Meshless Approach Towards Solution of Macrosegregation Phenomena

    Abstract The simulation of macrosegregation as a consequence of solidification of a binary Al-4.5%Cu alloy in a 2-dimensional rectangular enclosure is tackled in the present paper. Coupled volume-averaged governing equations for mass, energy, momentum and species transfer are considered. The phase properties are resolved from the Lever solidification rule, the mushy zone is modeled by the Darcy law and the liquid phase is assumed to behave like an incompressible Newtonian fluid. Double diffusive effects in the melt are modeled by the thermal and solutal Boussinesq hypothesis.     Abstract Large and complex macro-micro coupled constitutive models, which describe metal flow and microstructure evolution during metal forming, are sometimes overparameterized with respect to given sets of experimental datum. This results in poorly identifiable or non-identifiable model parameters. In this paper, a systemic parameter identification method for the large macro-micro coupled constitutive models is proposed.     Abstract It has been shown that in particulate filled composites, a cross-property relationship exists between various transport properties (e.g., electrical conductivity, mechanical reinforcement, gas permeation) of a macroscale composite. Thus, knowledge of the effective mechanical properties of a composite immediately places bounds on its electrical conductivity or gas permeation behavior.     Abstract The paper presents a revolutionary framework for the modeling, detection, characterization, identification, and machine-learning of anomalous behavior in observed phenomena arising from a large class of unknown and uncertain dynamical systems. An evolved behavior would in general be very difficult to correct unless the specific anomalous event that caused such behavior can be detected early, and any consequence attributed to the specific anomaly following its detection.
