Abstract In the literature, numerous techniques have been employed to decrease noise in medical image modalities, including X-Ray (XR), Ultrasonic (Us), Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), and Positron Emission Tomography (PET). These techniques are organized into two main classes: the Multiple Image (MI) and the Single Image (SI) techniques. In the MI techniques, images usually obtained for the same area scanned from different points of view are used. A single image is used in the entire procedure in the SI techniques. SI denoising techniques can be carried out both in a transform or spatial… More >

Abstract This paper presents a study of the segmentation of medical images. The paper provides a solid introduction to image enhancement along with image segmentation fundamentals. In the first step, the morphological operations are employed to ensure image detail protection and noise-immunity. The objective of using morphological operations is to remove the defects in the texture of the image. Secondly, the Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) clustering algorithm is used to modify membership function based only on the spatial neighbors instead of the distance between pixels within local spatial neighbors and cluster centers. The proposed technique is very… More >

Abstract Authentication of the digital image has much attention for the digital revolution. Digital image authentication can be verified with image watermarking and image encryption schemes. These schemes are widely used to protect images against forgery attacks, and they are useful for protecting copyright and rightful ownership. Depending on the desirable applications, several image encryption and watermarking schemes have been proposed to moderate this attention. This framework presents a new scheme that combines a Walsh Hadamard Transform (WHT)-based image watermarking scheme with an image encryption scheme based on Double Random Phase Encoding (DRPE). Abstract The segmentation process requires separating the image region into sub-regions of similar properties. Each sub-region has a group of pixels having the same characteristics, such as texture or intensity. This paper suggests an efficient hybrid segmentation approach for different medical image modalities based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) and improved fast fuzzy C-means clustering (IFFCM) algorithms. An extensive comparative study on different medical images is presented between the proposed approach and other different previous segmentation techniques. The existing medical image segmentation techniques incorporate clustering, thresholding, graph-based, edge-based, active contour, region-based, and watershed algorithms. This paper More >

Optimal IoT Based Improved Deep Learning Model for Medical Image Classification

    Prasanalakshmi Balaji1,*, B. Sri Revathi2, Praveetha Gobinathan3, Shermin Shamsudheen3, Thavavel Vaiyapuri4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.2, pp. 2275-2291, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.028560 - 16 June 2022

Abstract Recently medical image classification plays a vital role in medical image retrieval and computer-aided diagnosis system. Despite deep learning has proved to be superior to previous approaches that depend on handcrafted features; it remains difficult to implement because of the high intra-class variance and inter-class similarity generated by the wide range of imaging modalities and clinical diseases. The Internet of Things (IoT) in healthcare systems is quickly becoming a viable alternative for delivering high-quality medical treatment in today’s e-healthcare systems. In recent years, the Internet of Things (IoT) has been identified as one of the… More >

Semi-Supervised Medical Image Segmentation Based on Generative Adversarial Network

    Yun Tan1,2, Weizhao Wu2, Ling Tan3, Haikuo Peng2, Jiaohua Qin2,*

    Journal of New Media, Vol.4, No.3, pp. 155-164, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jnm.2022.031113 - 13 June 2022

Abstract At present, segmentation for medical image is mainly based on fully supervised model training, which consumes a lot of time and labor for dataset labeling. To address this issue, we propose a semi-supervised medical image segmentation model based on a generative adversarial network framework for automated segmentation of arteries. The network is mainly composed of two parts: a segmentation network for medical image segmentation and a discriminant network for evaluating segmentation results. In the initial stage of network training, a fully supervised training method is adopted to make the segmentation network and the discrimination network More >

Blood Sample Image Classification Algorithm Based on SVM and HOG

    Tianyi Jiang1, Shuangshuang Ying2, Zhou Fang1, Xue Song1, Yinggang Sun2, Dongyang Zhan3,4, Chao Ma2,*

    Journal of New Media, Vol.4, No.2, pp. 85-95, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jnm.2022.027175 - 13 June 2022

Abstract In the medical field, the classification and analysis of blood samples has always been arduous work. In the previous work of this task, manual classification maneuvers have been used, which are time consuming and laborious. The conventional blood image classification research is mainly focused on the microscopic cell image classification, while the macroscopic reagent processing blood coagulation image classification research is still blank. These blood samples processed with reagents often show some inherent shape characteristics, such as coagulation, attachment, discretization and so on. The shape characteristics of these blood samples also make it possible for… More >

    May A. Al-Otaibi1,*, Hesham Alhumyani1, Saleh Ibrahim2, Alaa M. Abbas2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.34, No.3, pp. 1523-1536, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.026161 - 25 May 2022

Abstract Image encryption has attracted a lot of interest as an important security application for protecting confidential image data against unauthorized access. An adversary with the power to manipulate cipher image data can crop part of the image out to prevent decryption or render the decrypted image useless. This is known as the occlusion attack. In this paper, we address a vulnerability to the occlusion attack identified in the medical image encryption framework recently proposed in []. We propose adding a pixel scrambling phase to the framework and show through simulation that the extended framework effectively More >

    E. P. Kannan1,*, S. S. Vinsley2, T. V. Chithra3

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.34, No.3, pp. 1675-1691, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.022707 - 25 May 2022

Abstract In this paper, Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) implementation-based image demosaicing is carried out. The Newton Gregory interpolation algorithm is designed based on FPGA frame work. Interpolation is the method of assessing the value of a function for any in-between value of self-regulating variable, whereas the method of computing the value of the function outside the specified range is named extrapolation. The natural images are collected from Kodak image database and medical images are collected from UPOL (University of Phoenix Online) database. The proposed algorithm is executed on using Xilinx ISE (Integrated Synthesis Environment) Design Suite… More >
