Abstract Houttuynia cordata Thunb (HCT) is a medicinal and edible herb that has beneficial effects on various diseases due to its diuretic, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative, anti-microbial, anti-viral, anti-cancer and anti-diabetic properties. Most reports of its anti-cancer activity were conducted in vitro, and its effects on cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) have not been investigated yet. Using DMBA/TPA induced SCC mice model, we found that topical treatment by HCT, as well as its bioactive ingredient monomer, efficiently inhibited tumor growth. Mechanistically, tumor infiltrating CD4+ , Foxp3+ T regulatory cells (Tregs) were significantly reduced and CD8+ /Treg cells ratio was largely increased in tumors… More >

    Chao Zhu1, Lei Wang1, Dai Pan1, Zifei Wang2, Tao Wang2, Licheng Wang2,*, Chengjin Ye3

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.134, No.1, pp. 599-609, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.021052

Abstract In this paper, a model free volt/var control (VVC) algorithm is developed by using deep reinforcement learning (DRL). We transform the VVC problem of distribution networks into the network framework of PPO algorithm, in order to avoid directly solving a large-scale nonlinear optimization problem. We select photovoltaic inverters as agents to adjust system voltage in a distribution network, taking the reactive power output of inverters as action variables. An appropriate reward function is designed to guide the interaction between photovoltaic inverters and the distribution network environment. OPENDSS is used to output system node voltage and network loss. This method realizes… More >

    Qing Miao1, Lan Guo1, Yang Lu1,*, Zhongqi Wang2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.35, No.3, pp. 2737-2754, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.028693

Abstract Attribute-based encryption with keyword search (ABEKS) is a novel cryptographic paradigm that can be used to implement fine-grained access control and retrieve ciphertexts without disclosing the sensitive information. It is a perfect combination of attribute-based encryption (ABE) and public key encryption with keyword search (PEKS). Nevertheless, most of the existing ABEKS schemes have limited search capabilities and only support single or simple conjunctive keyword search. Due to the weak search capability and inaccurate search results, it is difficult to apply these schemes to practical applications. In this paper, an efficient expressive ABEKS (EABEKS) scheme supporting unbounded keyword universe over prime-order… More >

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.35, No.2, pp. 1627-1641, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.025980

Abstract In the digital era, the Narrowband Internet of Things (Nb-IoT) influences the massive Machine-Type-Communication (mMTC) features to establish secure routing among the 5G/6G mobile networks. It supports global coverage to the low-cost IoT devices distributed in terrestrial networks. Its key traffic characteristics include robust uplink, moderate data rate/device, extremely high energy efficiency, prolonging device lifetime, and Quality of Service (QoS). This paper proposes a Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) combined software-defined air interface algorithm applied on the switching system, satisfying the user requirement and enabling them with the network resources to extend quality of service by choosing the most appropriate quality… More >

Optimal Experiment Design for the Identification of the Interfacial Heat Transfer Coefficient in Sand Casting

    Dorsaf Khalifa*, Foued Mzali

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.6, pp. 1841-1852, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.022060

Abstract The interfacial heat transfer coefficient (IHTC) is one of the main input parameters required by casting simulation software. It plays an important role in the accurate modeling of the solidification process. However, its value is not easily identifiable by means of experimental methods requiring temperature measurements during the solidification process itself. For these reasons, an optimal experiment design was performed in this study to determine the optimal position for the temperature measurement and the optimal thickness of the rectangular cast iron part. This parameter was identified using an inverse technique. In particular, two different algorithms were used: Levenberg Marquard (LM)… More >

Abstract RAS-responsive element-binding protein 1 (RREB1) is a transcription factor that is implicated in RAS signaling and multiple tumors. However, the role of RREB1 in acute myeloid leukemia has not been studied. We found that RREB1 is overexpressed in AML patients and myeloid leukemia cell lines (NB4 and HL-60), and RREB1 expression was significantly decreased during granulocytic differentiation of myeloid leukemia cells induced by all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA). Then we performed a RREB1 knockdown assay in NB4 and HL-60 cells; the results showed that knockdown of RREB1 upregulated expression of CD11b, CEBP , and microRNA-145 (miR-145), which hinted that knockdown of… More >

Leonard Lothstein*, Judith Soberman, Deanna Parke*, Jatin Gandhi*, Trevor Sweatman, Tiffany Seagroves*

    Oncology Research, Vol.28, No.5, pp. 451-465, 2020, DOI:10.3727/096504020X15898794315356

Abstract Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is unresponsive to antiestrogen and anti-HER2 therapies, requiring the use of cytotoxic drug combinations of anthracyclines, taxanes, cyclophosphamide, and platinum compounds. Multidrug therapies achieve pathological cure rates of only 20–40%, a consequence of drug resistance and cumulative dose limitations necessitated by the reversible cardiotoxic effects of drug therapy. Safer and more effective treatments for TNBC are required to achieve durable therapeutic responses. This study describes the mechanistic analyses of the novel anthracycline, pivarubicin, and its in vivo efficacy against human primary TNBC. Pivarubicin directly activates PKCd, triggers rapid mitochondrial-dependent apoptosis, and circumvents resistance conferred by overexpression… More >
