Future of the current anticoronaviral agents: A viewpoint on the validation for the next COVIDs and pandemics

    AMGAD M. RABIE*

    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.10, pp. 2133-2139, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.030057

Abstract Despite the global decline in the severity of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases, the disease still represents a major concern to the relevant scientific and medical communities. The primary concern of drug scientists, virologists, and other concerned specialists in this respect is to find ready-to-use suitable and potent anticoronaviral therapies that are broadly effective against the different species/strains of the coronaviruses in general, not only against the current and previous coronaviruses (e.g., the recently-appeared severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 “SARS-CoV-2”), i.e., effective antiviral agents for treatment and/or prophylaxis of any coronaviral infections, including those of the coming ones… More > Graphic Abstract

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.6, pp. 2713-2727, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.025817

Abstract This study aims to realize the sharing of near-infrared analysis models of lignin and holocellulose content in pulp wood on two different batches of spectrometers and proposes a combined algorithm of SPA-DS, MCUVE-DS and SiPLS-DS. The Successive Projection Algorithm (SPA), the Monte-Carlo of Uninformative Variable Elimination (MCUVE) and the Synergy Interval Partial Least Squares (SiPLS) algorithms are respectively used to reduce the adverse effects of redundant information in the transmission process of the full spectrum DS algorithm model. These three algorithms can improve model transfer accuracy and efficiency and reduce the manpower and material consumption required for modeling. These results… More >

    Emna Karray1, Hela Elmannai2,*, Elyes Toumi1, Mohamed Hedi Gharbia3, Souham Meshoul2, Hamouda Aichi4, Zouhaier Ben Rabah1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.136, No.2, pp. 1399-1425, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.023164

Abstract Pedo-spectroscopy has the potential to provide valuable information about soil physical, chemical, and biological properties. Nowadays, we may predict soil properties using VNIR field imaging spectra (IS) such as Prisma satellite data or laboratory spectra (LS). The primary goal of this study is to investigate machine learning models namely Partial Least Squares Regression (PLSR) and Support Vector Regression (SVR) for the prediction of several soil properties, including clay, sand, silt, organic matter, nitrate NO3-, and calcium carbonate CaCO3, using five VNIR spectra dataset combinations (% IS, % LS) as follows: C1 (0% IS, 100% LS), C2 (20% IS, 80% LS),… More > Graphic Abstract

    Ibrahim M. Almanjahie1,2,*, Omar Fetitah3, Mohammed Kadi Attouch3, Tawfik Benchikh3,4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.3, pp. 6307-6319, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.033441

Abstract Functional statistics is a new technique for dealing with data that can be viewed as curves or images. Parallel to this approach, the Near-Infrared Reflectance (NIR) spectroscopy methodology has been used in modern chemistry as a rapid, low-cost, and exact means of assessing an object’s chemical properties. In this research, we investigate the quality of corn and cookie dough by analyzing the spectroscopic technique using certain cutting-edge statistical models. By analyzing spectral data and applying functional models to it, we could predict the chemical components of corn and cookie dough. Is autophagy induction by PARP inhibitors a target for therapeutic benefit?

    AHMED M. ELSHAZLY1,2, TUONG VI V. NGUYEN1, DAVID A. GEWIRTZ1,*

    Oncology Research, Vol.30, No.1, pp. 1-12, 2022, DOI:10.32604/or.2022.026459

Abstract PARP inhibitors have proven to be effective in conjunction with conventional therapeutics in the treatment of various solid as well as hematologic malignancies, particularly when the tumors are deficient in DNA repair pathways. However, as the case with other chemotherapeutic agents, their effectiveness is often compromised by the development of resistance. PARP inhibitors have consistently been reported to promote autophagy, a process that maintains cellular homeostasis and acts as an energy source by the degradation and reutilization of damaged subcellular organelles and proteins. Autophagy can exhibit different functional properties, the most prominent being cytoprotective. In addition, both cytotoxic and non-protective… More >

Insight into the characteristics of an important evolutionary model bird (Geospiza magnirostris) mitochondrial genome through comparison

    ZHENGGANG XU1,2,3, LIANG WU3, JIAHAO CHEN1, YUNLIN ZHAO3, CHONGXUAN HAN1, TIAN HUANG2, GUIYAN YANG1,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.7, pp. 1733-1746, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.015784

Abstract Darwin’s finches are the most classic case of evolution. Early studies on the evolution of this species were mainly based on morphology. Until now, the mitochondrial genome of Geospiza magnirostris has been sequenced and the study explored the characteristics of the complete genome of G. magnirostris and verified the evolutionary position of it. The 13 PCGs initiated by ATN codons. The stop codons of three PCGs (ND2, COX3 and ND4) were incomplete, with only T- or TA- replacing complete form TAA or TAG. All the tRNA genes expressed a typical cloverleaf secondary structure, except for tRNASer1(AGY), whose dihydrouridine (DHU) arm… More >

Abstract Supervised machine learning techniques have become well established in the study of spectroscopy data. However, the unsupervised learning technique of cluster analysis hasn’t reached the same level maturity in chemometric analysis. This paper surveys recent studies which apply cluster analysis to NIR and IR spectroscopy data. In addition, we summarize the current practices in cluster analysis of spectroscopy and contrast these with cluster analysis literature from the machine learning and pattern recognition domain. This includes practices in data pre-processing, feature extraction, clustering distance metrics, clustering algorithms and validation techniques. Special consideration is given to the specific characteristics of IR and… More >
