Abstract This paper presents a new Double-E-Triple-H-Shaped NRI (negative refractive index) metamaterial (MM) for dual-band microwave sensing applications. Here, a horizontal H-shaped metal structure is enclosed by two face-to-face E-shaped metal structures. This double-E-H-shaped design is also encased by two vertical H-shaped structures along with some copper links. Thus, the Double-E-Triple-H-Shaped configuration is developed. Two popular substrate materials of Rogers RO 3010 and FR-4 were adopted for analyzing the characteristics of the unit cell. The proposed structure exhibits transmission resonance inside the S-band with NRI and ENG (Epsilon Negative) metamaterial properties, and inside the C-band with ENG and MNG (Mu Negative)… More >

    Changkye Lee1, Sundararajan Natarajan2, Jack S. Hale3, Zeike A. Taylor4, Jurng-Jae Yee1,*, Stéphane P. A. Bordas3,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.127, No.2, pp. 411-436, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2021.014947

Abstract This work presents a locking-free smoothed finite element method (S-FEM) for the simulation of soft matter modelled by the equations of quasi-incompressible hyperelasticity. The proposed method overcomes well-known issues of standard finite element methods (FEM) in the incompressible limit: the over-estimation of stiffness and sensitivity to severely distorted meshes. The concepts of cell-based, edge-based and node-based S-FEMs are extended in this paper to three-dimensions. Additionally, a cubic bubble function is utilized to improve accuracy and stability. For the bubble function, an additional displacement degree of freedom is added at the centroid of the element. Several numerical studies are performed demonstrating… More >

    Shaoguan Huang1, Rong Zhang2, Lizhen Liu3,*

    Oncologie, Vol.23, No.1, pp. 159-171, 2021, DOI:10.32604/Oncologie.2021.012489

Abstract Breast cancer is one of malignant severe diseases that cause cancer death in women. Although research about the pathogenesis and studies about treatment mechanisms in breast cancer have become clear focuses, we have no clear conclusion yet. Therefore, this research is based on a modular approach to explore key factors and molecular mechanisms that affect breast cancer metastasis. First of all, it is necessary to download breast cancer-related data on the GEO database, and we analyzed the difference between primary tumors and metastatic lesions to obtain differential gene expression profiles. On this basis, a series of bioinformatics analyses were performed… More >

    Kun Ding1, Shanshan Liu1, Yuhao Zhang2, Hui Zhang1, Xiaoxiong Zhang1,*, Tongtong Wu2,3, Xiaolei Zhou1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.68, No.1, pp. 377-389, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.016301

Abstract The joint extraction of entities and their relations from certain texts plays a significant role in most natural language processes. For entity and relation extraction in a specific domain, we propose a hybrid neural framework consisting of two parts: a span-based model and a graph-based model. The span-based model can tackle overlapping problems compared with BILOU methods, whereas the graph-based model treats relation prediction as graph classification. Our main contribution is to incorporate external lexical and syntactic knowledge of a specific domain, such as domain dictionaries and dependency structures from texts, into end-to-end neural models. We conducted extensive experiments on… More >

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.89, No.4, pp. 795-803, 2020, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2020.09420

Abstract In recent years, there has been an increase in epidemiological studies to highlight the health benefits of plant secondary metabolites. Flavonoids (polyphenolic plant secondary metabolites) are recently emerging as an important source for the discovery of new drugs increasing their pharmaceuticals, nutraceutical and medicinal applications. Naringenin is a flavanone, enriched in citrus fruits, tomatoes, bergamot, etc. which has been evaluated extensively for managing diabetes. However, in addition to this, naringenin had been ascribed to various important biological activities like antioxidant, antiviral, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antiestrogenic, etc. This article aims at highlighting the therapeutic value of naringenin in managing disorders other than… More >

    Xiaorui Zhang1,2,*, Xuefeng Yu1, Wei Sun2, Aiguo Song3

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.124, No.3, pp. 1131-1147, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2020.09735

Abstract In order to solve the problem of high computing cost and low simulation accuracy caused by discontinuity of incision in traditional meshless model, this paper proposes a soft tissue deformation model based on the Marquardt algorithm and enrichment function. The model is based on the element-free Galerkin method, in which Kelvin viscoelastic model and adjustment function are integrated. Marquardt algorithm is applied to fit the relation between force and displacement caused by surface deformation, and the enrichment function is applied to deal with the discontinuity in the meshless method. To verify the validity of the model, the Sensable Phantom Omni… More >

Partition of Unity Finite Element Analysis of Nonlinear Transient Diffusion Problems Using p-Version Refinement

    Abdelkarim El Kahoui1, Mustapha Malek1, Nouh Izem1, M. Shadi Mohamed2, Mohammed Seaid3,4,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.124, No.1, pp. 61-78, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2020.010874

Abstract We propose a high-order enriched partition of unity finite element method for linear and nonlinear time-dependent diffusion problems. The solution of this class of problems often exhibits non-smooth features such as steep gradients and boundary layers which can be very challenging to recover using the conventional low-order finite element methods. A class of steady-state exponential functions has been widely used for enrichment and its performance to numerically solve these challenges has been demonstrated. However, these enrichment functions have been used only in context of the standard h-version refinement or the so-called q-version refinement. In this paper we demonstrate that the… More >

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.85, pp. 236-245, 2016, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2016.85.236

Abstract Spatial and vertical distributions, and population !uctuations of Tetranychus urticae and its predator Phytoseiulus persimilis were determined in four varieties of rose (Royal, Samuray, Red Baiser and Keiro) under greenhouse conditions. Nine samples for the pest and 8 samples for the predator were obtained. From 20 September to 18 November 2013, T. urticae and P. persimilis presented an aggregated distribution pattern during most of the sampling dates. At the same time, P. persimilis did not change the vertical distribution of T. urticae. A synchronous behavior between both predator and prey was observed in the four study varieties, although only the… More >

Abstract Ornamental plants have been proposed for growing in heavy metal (HM) contaminated soils, and also for phytoremediation. We evaluated (1) biomass production and (2) HM accumulation in Pelargonium hortorum. Plants were grown for 16 weeks on HM (cadmium, chromium, copper, lead, nickel and zinc) enriched soils. Treatments were i) control, non-enriched soil, ii) medium concentration treatment, and iii) high concentration treatment. Four destructive harvests were carried out, and roots, stems, leaves, and flowers were analyzed each time. Concentrations of HM were determined using ICP. Significant reductions in biomass production were observed in HM-enriched soils compared with the control. Different indexes… More >
