    Meryam Manzoor1, Konstantin Korolev2, Maryam3, Riaz Ahmad4,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.94, No.5, pp. 1401-1418, 2025, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2025.063930 - 29 May 2025

Abstract The productivity of fruit crops is badly affected by abrupt changes in climatic conditions. It is a matter of concern for fruit tree researchers to feed the huge population within the available resources. The adverse effects of abiotic stresses are increasing due to fluctuations in climate change. Several abiotic stresses (salinity, drought, water logging, minerals deficiency, temperature extremities and heavy metals) are reducing the overall productivity of crops. Therefore, the application of different management approaches, i.e., phytohormones, nanoparticles, organic amendments, microbes and molecular aspects are effective for the mitigation of abiotic stresses in fruit crops.… More >

Abstract Ferroptosis is an iron-driven, phospholipid hydroperoxide-mediated cell death, which has recently emerged as an attractive tool in cancer research due to its ability to govern the anti-tumor immune response. A growing research interest in ferroptosis biology has revealed the contribution of this regulated cell death to multiple diseases. In addition to iron, ferroptosis has been reported to be triggered by multiple heavy metals, which sheds light on the novel aspects of heavy metals-induced cytotoxicity. In this review, the ability of zinc, an essential biogenic element with a wide array of biological functions, to modulate ferroptosis… More >

Abstract The impregnation of nanoparticles magnetified into wood had been developed by different methods, like surface chemical coprecipitation and vacuum-pressure coprecipitation of magnetic nanoparticles (NPs). However, there is a lack of information on the best method to coprecipitation NPs. Then, the present study has the objective to measure the effects of the impregnation process of wood veneers through two in situ processes (immersion and vacuum-pressure) using a solution of FeCl3·6H2O, FeCl2·4H2O and ammonia in three tropical species (Pinus oocarpa, Vochysia ferruginea and Vochysia guatemalensis). It was measured the degree of synthesis of iron NPs using weight and density gains, Fe+3 absorption, emission… More > Graphic Abstract

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.94, No.3, pp. 623-640, 2025, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2025.063763 - 31 March 2025

Abstract Various environmental stressors, such as salinity, heat, drought, and metals, present significant obstacles to crop productivity. This study delves into the adverse effects of metals, specifically focusing on cadmium (Cd), nickel (Ni), mercury (Hg), chromium (Cr), arsenic (As), lead (Pb), and copper (Cu) on plants. It explores the sources of these metals, examining both natural occurrences and human-induced activities, and investigates the mechanisms through which plants absorb them. Metal pollution, in particular, negatively affects plant and microbiome well-being, producing reactive oxygen species (ROS) that harm essential macromolecules. Traditional stress-resistant plant varieties necessitate substantial development, leading… More >
