    MINJI PARK1, CHULHWAN BANG2, WON-SOO YUN3, YUN-MI JEONG3,*

    Oncology Research, Vol.32, No.2, pp. 273-282, 2024, DOI:10.32604/or.2023.044362

Abstract Fucoidan, a sulfate polysaccharide obtained from brown seaweed, has various bioactive properties, including anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, anti-viral, anti-oxidant, anti-coagulant, anti-thrombotic, anti-angiogenic, and anti-Helicobacter pylori properties. However, the effects of low-molecular-weight fucoidan (LMW-F) on melanoma cell lines and three dimensional (3D) cell culture models are not well understood. This study aimed to investigate the effects of LMW-F on A375 human melanoma cells and cryopreserved biospecimens derived from patients with advanced melanoma. Ultrasonic wave was used to fragment fucoidan derived from Fucus vesiculosus into smaller LMW-F. MTT and live/dead assays showed that LMW-F inhibited cell proliferation in both A375 cells and patient-derived melanoma… More >

Abstract Background: Glioma is the most common primary brain tumor. Exploration of new tumorigenesis mechanism of glioma is critical to determine more effective treatment targets as well as to develop effective prognosis methods that can enhance the treatment efficacy. We previously demonstrated that the deubiquitinase biquitin carboxyl-terminal hydrolase L5 (UCHL5) was downregulated in human glioma. However, the effect and mechanism of UCHL5 on the proliferation of glioma cells remains unknown. Methods: Transfection of siRNA was used to knockdown the expression of UCHL5 in U251 cells. The 3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5 diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay, Edu assay, and colony formation assay were employed to… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract Objective: Breast cancer is a major cancer threatening the health of women globally. To elucidate the effect of the circHIAT1/miR-19a-3p/phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) axis on regulating the malignant phenotype of breast cancer cells. Methods: The mRNA expression pattern of circHIAT1, miR-19a-3p, and PTEN was checked by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Then, the knockdown assay was carried out to explore the effect of circHIAT1 and miR-19a-3p on breast cancer. The relative cell experiments, including MTT assay, scratch assay, transwell invasion assay, and flow cytometry analysis, were conducted to verify the influence of circHIAT1 and miR-19a-3p on breast cancer cells.… More >

    Oncology Research, Vol.27, No.6, pp. 653-661, 2019, DOI:10.3727/096504018X15420748671075

Abstract The lncRNA AFAP1-AS1, oriented from an antisense direction to the protein-coding gene AFAP1 in the opposite strand, was upregulated in a variety of tumors and associated with poor prognosis, including lung cancer, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and so on. However, the biological role of AFAP1-AS1 in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is still unknown. We observed that AFAP1-AS1 expression was significantly upregulated in ccRCC tissues and that patients with high-level expression of AFAP1-AS1 had a shorter overall survival. Knockdown of AFAP1-AS1 markedly suppressed the progression of proliferation, invasion, migration, and EMT in ccRCC cells. Downregulation of AFAP1-AS1 resulted in… More >

    Oncology Research, Vol.28, No.2, pp. 147-159, 2020, DOI:10.3727/096504019X15732109856009

Abstract MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play crucial roles in tumorigenesis and tumor progression. miR-561 has been reported to be downregulated in gastric cancer and affects cancer cell proliferation and metastasis. However, the role and underlying molecular mechanism of miR-561 in human non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remain unknown and need to be further elucidated. In this study, we discovered that miR-561 expression was downregulated in human NSCLC tissues and cell lines. The overexpression of miR-561 inhibited NSCLC cell proliferation and cell cycle G1 /S transition and induced apoptosis. The inhibition of miR-561 facilitated cell proliferation and G1 /S transition and suppressed apoptosis. miR-561… More >

Downregulation of MicroRNA-147 Inhibits Cell Proliferation and Increases the Chemosensitivity of Gastric Cancer Cells to 5-Fluorouracil by Directly Targeting PTEN

Jianjun Shen*1, Weina Niu†1, Hongbo Zhang*, Ma Jun*, Hongyan Zhang*

    Oncology Research, Vol.28, No.9, pp. 961-963, 2020, DOI:10.3727/096504022X16414984936746

Abstract Gastric cancer is the fourth most common malignancy and the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. This study aimed to investigate the expression patterns, biological roles, and underlying mechanisms of microRNA-147 (miR-147) in gastric cancer. The present study demonstrated that miR-147 was significantly upregulated in gastric cancer tissues and cell lines. Downregulation of miR-147 decreased cell proliferation and enhanced the chemosensitivity of gastric cancer cells to 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) through the cell apoptosis pathway. In addition, phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) was mechanically identified as the direct target of miR-147 in gastric cancer. PTEN knockdown reversed the effects of miR-147… More >

ICMPTend: Internet Control Message Protocol Covert Tunnel Attack Intent Detector

    Tengfei Tu1,2, Wei Yin3, Hua Zhang1,2,*, Xingyu Zeng1, Xiaoxiang Deng1, Yuchen Zhou1, Xu Liu4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.2, pp. 2315-2331, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.022540

Abstract The Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) covert tunnel refers to a network attack that encapsulates malicious data in the data part of the ICMP protocol for transmission. Its concealment is stronger and it is not easy to be discovered. Most detection methods are detecting the existence of channels instead of clarifying specific attack intentions. In this paper, we propose an ICMP covert tunnel attack intent detection framework ICMPTend, which includes five steps: data collection, feature dictionary construction, data preprocessing, model construction, and attack intent prediction. ICMPTend can detect a variety of attack intentions, such as shell attacks, sensitive directory access,… More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.45, No.2, pp. 317-321, 2021, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2020.09313

Abstract Ovarian cancer is a malignant cancer type and affects women’s lives in the world. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been involved with the progression of cancers. In our study, we are going to explore the functions of circATF6 in ovarian cancer. The qRT-PCR assay was used to detect expressions of genes. Actinomycin D and RNase R treatment were implemented to verify the circular RNA character of circATF6. Besides, Cell proliferation was assessed by colony formation assay and EdU assay. Silenced circATF6 could reduce the proliferation of ovarian cancer cells. In addition, inhibited circATF6 could promote the cell apoptosis and inhibit related… More >
