An Experimental Study and Analysis of Different Dielectrics in Electrical Discharge Machining of Al 6063 Alloy

    B. MOULIPRASANTHA, P. HARIHARANB

    Journal of Polymer Materials, Vol.36, No.4, pp. 351-369, 2019, DOI:10.32381/JPM.2019.36.04.5

Abstract Electrical discharge machining is a non-traditional machining processes in which it is based upon thermal and electrical energy source as an interval energy pulse discharge in-between the work piece and tool electrode so as to remove the material. A systematical investigation of melting and vaporising of aluminium to find the output responses such as Material removal rate (MRR), Electrode wear rate (Ra), and Surface finish (EWR) in EDM using two different dielectrics was conducted as experimental work. The working fluids are Polyethylene glycol (PEG 600) and kerosene. It is the hour of need to get the maximum MRR and surface… More >

CuBr2/Me6 TREN Mediated ARGET ATRP of Methyl acrylate in Polyethylene Glycol

    XIANRONG SHEN1,*, DENGZHOU XIA1, YIXIN XIANG1, JIANGANG GAO1

    Journal of Polymer Materials, Vol.36, No.3, pp. 229-241, 2019, DOI:10.32381/JPM.2019.36.03.3

Abstract ARGET ATRP of methyl acrylate (MA) with low concentration of air stable-CuBr2 catalyst was successfully carried out in green solvent polyethylene glycol (PEG) without any external reducing agent. The polymerizations of MA proceeded in a well-controlled manner as evidenced by kinetic studies, chain extension results, a linear increase of the molecular weights with the increasing of monomer conversion. and narrow molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn =1.1). Interestingly, we found that the PEG has the reduction ability to CuBr2 and could play as supplement reducing agent cooperation with Me6 TREN to mediate ARGET ATRP. Reduction of Cu(II)Br2 to Cu(I)Br by different molecular weight… More >

Preparation and Characterization of Biobased Dehydroabietyl Polyethylene Glycol Glycidyl Ether-Grafted Hydroxyethyl Cellulose with High Emulsifying Property

Zhengqing Ding, Quan Yang, Xinyan Yan, Feng Gu, Xujuan Huang*, Zhaosheng Cai*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.12, No.1, pp. 103-117, 2024, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.029424

Abstract Dehydroabietyl polyethylene glycol glycidyl ether-grafted hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) polymer surfactant (DA(EO)5GE-g-HEC) was prepared using ring-opening polymerization with biobased rosin and hydroxyethyl cellulose as feedstocks. Dehydroabietyl polyethylene glycol glycidyl ether (DA(EO)5GE) was formed by condensation of dehydroabietyl alcohol polyoxyethylene ether (Rosin derivative: DA(EO)5H) and epichlorohydrin. The grafting degree of DA(EO)5GE-g-HEC was manipulated by adjusting the mass ratio of HEC and DA(EO)5GE and confirmed by EA. According to the formula, when m(HEC)/m(DA(EO)2GE) was 1:1~1:5, the grafting rate of DA(EO)5GE in DA(EO)5GE-g-HEC varied from 34.43% to 38.33%. The surface activity and foam properties of DA(EO)5GE-g-HEC aqueous solution were studied. The results showed that… More > Graphic Abstract

Effect of Water Stress Induced by Polyethylene Glycol on Growth, Proline Accumulation in Agave americana L.

    Alfaro-Corres Arnoldo Enrique1,#, Lecona-Guzman Carlos Alberto1,#, Gutiérrez-Miceli Federico Antonio1, Martínez-Esteves Manuel2, Silverio-Gómez María del Carmen3, Medina-Lara María de Fátima2, Ruiz-Lau Nancy4,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.2, pp. 629-643, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.023970

Abstract The effect of water deficit was determined on both in vitro and soil seedling as well as in cells in suspension of Agave americana L. In order to do the establishment of cells, the formation of callus was induced; for it two auxins were evaluated: 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) and 4-mino-3,5,6-trichloropicolinic acid (picloram) at three concentrations (0.25, 0.5 and 0.75 mg L−1) in three explants (leaf, root and meristems) cultured in MS semisolid medium. The callogenesis response was related to the type and section of the explant, as well as the regulator used, and a cell suspension was established using 0.5… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.67, No.3, pp. 3249-3264, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.015411

Abstract Currently, the 65Mn steel is quenched mainly by oil media. Even though the lower cooling rate of oil compared to water reduces the hardness of steel post quenching, the deforming and cracking of parts are often minimized. On the other hand, the oil media also has the disadvantage of being flammable, creating smoke that adversely affects the media. The poly alkylene glycol (PAG) polymer quenchant is commonly used for quenching a variety of steels based on its advantages such as non-flammability and flexible cooling rate subjected to varying concentration and stirring speed. This article examines the effect of PAG polymer… More >

Cellulose Nanocrystals versus Polyethylene Glycol as Toughening Agents for Poly(Lactic Acid)-Poly(Acrylic Acid) Graft Copolymer

Jose Luis Orellana, Michael Mauhar, Christopher L. Kitchens*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.4, No.5, pp. 340-350, 2016, DOI:10.7569/JRM.2016.634126

Abstract Polylactic acid (PLA) is one of the most widely used biodegradable polymers due to the ability to synthesize it economically at industrial scale and its favorable properties for many consumer products. However, the rigid nature of PLA is not desirable for specific applications, requiring the incorporation of effective bioderived additives in order to enhance the PLA toughness and broaden applications. In this work, PLA was modified by graft polymerization of polyacrylic acid (PLA-g-PAA) to increase the hydrophilicity to promote compatibilization of cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) or high molecular polyethylene glycol (PEG). CNCs were found to act as a nucleating agent for… More >
