    Predicting Effective Elastic Moduli and Strength of Ternary Blends with Core–Shell Structure by Second–Order Two–Scale Method

    Abstract Core–shell particle–filled PA6/EPDM–g–MA/HDPE ternary blend has excellent mechanical properties. In this paper, effective elastic properties and tensile yield strength of the ternary blend are predicted by the second–order two– scale method, to investigate the relationship between morphology and mechanical properties. The method and the limit analysis for predicting mechanical properties of random heterogeneous materials are briefly introduced. Realistic morphology of the ternary blend including both core–shell particles and pure particles is simulated, and finite element mesh is generated.     Abstract This article presents a three dimensional constitutive model for anisotropic damage to describe the elastic-brittle behavior of unidirectional fibrereinforced laminated composites.     Impact of Overhead Excavation on an Existing Shield Tunnel: Field Monitoring and a Full 3D Finite Element Analysis

    Abstract This paper studies the impact of overhead excavation on an existing tunnel through both field monitoring and a full 3D numerical model. It is found that the excavation induced longitudinal heave of the tunnel is uneven with maximum heave occurring below the excavation center. Even at the same cross section, the excavation induced heave is not uniform with the most significant heave occurring at the tunnel crown.     Abstract This paper proposes a method that can calculate the hydrodynamic force of a non-circular object in an inviscid, irrotational, and incompressible flow with the presence of external flow singularities. In order to handle irregular object, the method of fundamental solutions (MFS) is employed to numerically construct the singularity system that describes the body and the flow motion and meets the boundary condition.     Abstract We investigate two algorithms involving the relaxation of either the given boundary temperatures (Dirichlet data) or the prescribed normal heat fluxes (Neumann data) on the over-specified boundary in the case of the iterative algorithm of Kozlov91 applied to Cauchy problems for two-dimensional steady-state anisotropic heat conduction (the Laplace-Beltrami equation).     Relaxation of Alternating Iterative Algorithms for the Cauchy Problem Associated with the Modified Helmholtz Equation

    Abstract We propose two algorithms involving the relaxation of either the given Dirichlet data or the prescribed Neumann data on the over-specified boundary, in the case of the alternating iterative algorithm of Kozlov, Maz'ya and Fomin(1991) applied to Cauchy problems for the modified Helmholtz equation. A convergence proof of these relaxation methods is given, along with a stopping criterion. The numerical results obtained using these procedures, in conjunction with the boundary element method (BEM), show the numerical stability, convergence, consistency and computational efficiency of the proposed methods.     Abstract In this paper, the alternating iterative algorithm originally proposed by Kozlov, Maz'ya and Fomin (1991) is numerically implemented for the Cauchy problem in anisotropic heat conduction using a meshless method.
