    Tianyi Li1,2, Xin Gu2, Qing Zhang2,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.140, No.1, pp. 339-361, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2024.047566

Abstract This study proposes a comprehensive, coupled thermomechanical model that replaces local spatial derivatives in classical differential thermomechanical equations with nonlocal integral forms derived from the peridynamic differential operator (PDDO), eliminating the need for calibration procedures. The model employs a multi-rate explicit time integration scheme to handle varying time scales in multi-physics systems. Through simulations conducted on granite and ceramic materials, this model demonstrates its effectiveness. It successfully simulates thermal damage behavior in granite arising from incompatible mineral expansion and accurately calculates thermal crack propagation in ceramic slabs during quenching. To account for material heterogeneity, the model utilizes the Shuffle algorithm… More >

    Jamal N. Al Abbasi1, Ahmed Z. Afify2,*, Badr Alnssyan3,*, Mustafa S. Shama4,5

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.140, No.1, pp. 513-536, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2024.046533

Abstract This study proposes a new flexible family of distributions called the Lambert-G family. The Lambert family is very flexible and exhibits desirable properties. Its three-parameter special sub-models provide all significant monotonic and non-monotonic failure rates. A special sub-model of the Lambert family called the Lambert-Lomax (LL) distribution is investigated. General expressions for the LL statistical properties are established. Characterizations of the LL distribution are addressed mathematically based on its hazard function. The estimation of the LL parameters is discussed using six estimation methods. The performance of this estimation method is explored through simulation experiments. The usefulness and flexibility of the… More >

    Yang Li1, Jiangping Xu1,*, Yun Liu1, Wen Zhong2,*, Fei Wang3

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.140, No.1, pp. 461-483, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2024.046467

Abstract In this research, we present the pure open multi-processing (OpenMP), pure message passing interface (MPI), and hybrid MPI/OpenMP parallel solvers within the dynamic explicit central difference algorithm for the coining process to address the challenge of capturing fine relief features of approximately 50 microns. Achieving such precision demands the utilization of at least 7 million tetrahedron elements, surpassing the capabilities of traditional serial programs previously developed. To mitigate data races when calculating internal forces, intermediate arrays are introduced within the OpenMP directive. This helps ensure proper synchronization and avoid conflicts during parallel execution. Additionally, in the MPI implementation, the coins… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract The surrounding geological conditions and supporting structures of underground engineering are often updated during construction, and these updates require repeated numerical modeling. To improve the numerical modeling efficiency of underground engineering, a modularized and parametric modeling cloud server is developed by using Python codes. The basic framework of the cloud server is as follows: input the modeling parameters into the web platform, implement Rhino software and FLAC3D software to model and run simulations in the cloud server, and return the simulation results to the web platform. The modeling program can automatically generate instructions that can run the modeling process in… More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.4, pp. 889-899, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.042728

Abstract Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) induction pumps are contactless pumps able to withstand harsh environments. The rate of fluid flow through the pump directly affects the efficiency and stability of the device. To explore the influence of induction pump settings on the related delivery speed, in this study, a numerical model for coupled electromagnetic and flow field effects is introduced and used to simulate liquid metal lithium flow in the induction pump. The effects of current intensity, frequency, coil turns and coil winding size on the velocity of the working fluid are analyzed. It is shown that the first three parameters have a… More >

Abstract Broadcasting gateway equipment generally uses a method of simply switching to a spare input stream when a failure occurs in a main input stream. However, when the transmission environment is unstable, problems such as reduction in the lifespan of equipment due to frequent switching and interruption, delay, and stoppage of services may occur. Therefore, applying a machine learning (ML) method, which is possible to automatically judge and classify network-related service anomaly, and switch multi-input signals without dropping or changing signals by predicting or quickly determining the time of error occurrence for smooth stream switching when there are problems such as… More >

A Review on Finite Element Alternating Methods for Analyzing 2D and 3D Cracks

    Jai Hak Park*

Digital Engineering and Digital Twin, Vol.2, pp. 79-101, 2024, DOI:10.32604/dedt.2024.047280

Abstract A finite element alternating method has been known as a very convenient and accurate method to solve two and three-dimensional crack problems. In this method, a general crack problem is solved by a superposition of two solutions. One is a finite element solution for a finite body without a crack, and the other is an analytical solution for a crack in an infinite body. Since a crack is not considered in a finite element model, generating a model is very simple. The method is especially very convenient for a fatigue crack growth simulation. Over the past 40 years, S. N.… More >
