    Formation of Highly Oriented Cellulose Nanocrystal Films by Spin Coating Film from Aqueous Suspensions

    Abstract Spin coating was used to cast a uniform film of cellulose nanocrystals with low surface roughness and variable thickness as a function of operational parameters that include rotational speed and dispense suspension concentration. The film thickness was controllable from 40 nm up to 1 μm with surface roughness an order of magnitude less than blade-coating methods. The degree of radial orientation was qualitatively assessed and shown to be variable with processing parameters.     Abstract The electrospinning technique is a method used to produce nano and microfibers using the influence of electrostatic forces. Porous three dimensional networks of continuous and interconnected fibers as scaffolds were obtained from a poly (lactic acid) solution. The concentration of the polymeric solution, 12.5% m/w, as well as the conditions of voltage (V=11kV) and tip-metallic collector distance (H=13cm) were established to develop these scaffolds through the electrospinning process.     Abstract Expression of adhesion molecules may play an important role in the interaction of tumor cells with vascular endothelial cells during tumor invasion and metastasis. In this study, the adhesive force of human hepatoma HepG2 cells to human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) was investigated using a micropipette aspiration technique. Expression of an adhesion molecule, E-selectin, was also observed by immunofluorescence microscopy.     Abstract A highly compact chipless tag based on Frequency coding technique using Spiral Resonators is proposed in this paper. Spirals are well known metamaterial structures and thus capable of sharp resonance, and hence Spiral Resonators can serve as a good candidate for RF Identity Tags. The bit capacity of the proposed tag is 10 bits per sqcm. The prototype of the tag is fabricated on a low-cost substrate of dielectric constant 4.4 and loss tangent 0.02.
