Abstract Objectives: Mitochondrial Ca2+ uniporter (MCU) provides a Ca2+ influx pathway from the cytosol into the mitochondrial matrix and a moderate mitochondrial Ca2+ rise stimulates ATP production and cell growth. MCU is highly expressed in various cancer cells including breast cancer cells, thereby increasing the capacity of mitochondrial Ca2+ uptake, ATP production, and cancer cell proliferation. The objective of this study was to examine MCU inhibition as an anti-cancer mechanism. Methods: The effects of MCU-i4, a newly developed MCU inhibitor, on cell viability, apoptosis, cytosolic Ca2+, mitochondrial Ca2+ and potential, glycolytic rate, generation of ATP, and reactive oxygen species,… More >

Colloidal synthesis of ZnTe nanocrystals by laser ablation and fabrication of hybrid light emitting device

    A. M. Kadim*, M. K. Abid

    Chalcogenide Letters, Vol.21, No.4, pp. 327-333, 2024, DOI:10.15251/CL.2024.214.327

Abstract Zinc telluride (ZnTe) nanocrystals (NCs) have generated the interest of researchers as an electrode material in hybrid light emitting devices (HLEDs) due to its potentially high capacity. However, due to the restricted fundamental charging capacity of the electrode materials, the available energy of existing nanomaterial light emitting devices remains enough for a wide range of applications. In this research, ZnTe nanocrystals were synthesized using Nd: YAG laser at energy 600 mJ by 150 pulse number to form a battery device out of ITO/ZnTe/TPD/Ni. The spectra of the ZnTe NCs were assessed using ultraviolet-visible (UV-VIS) and More >

Abstract Introduction: Prostate cancer is the second most common malignancy in men worldwide. Genomic VPAC receptors are expressed on malignant prostate cancer cells and can be targeted and imaged optically by a peptide labeled fluorophore. The objective of our study was to assess the feasibility of detecting cancer of the prostate using a voided urine sample.
Materials and methods: Patients ≥ 40 years old, with lower urinary tract symptoms and serum PSA > 4 ng/ mL formed the study group. The first 50 mL of voided urine sample was collected and processed. The cells that were shed in… More >

Selective Laser Sintering of Polymer Materials with Covalent Adaptable Networks Structure

    Zhanhua Wang1,*, Hesheng Xia1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.32, No.1, pp. 1-1, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.012859

Abstract Selective laser sintering (SLS) is one of the mainstream 3D printing technologies. A major challenge for SLS technology is the lack of novel polymer powder materials with improved Z-direction strength. Herein, a series of polymer materials with covalent adaptable networks structure were utilized to solve the challenge of SLS. To verify this concept, novel kinds of cross-linked polyurethanes (TPU) or polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) elastomers containing dynamic covalent bonds including halogenated bisphenol carbamate bonds [1], hindered pyrazole urea bonds [2] or Diels–Alder bonds [3] were synthesized. The obtained dynamic TPU or PDMS exhibited excellent mechanical strength and More >

Triply Periodic Minimal Surface and Constant Mean Curvature Surfaces Formed Rib Structure’s Energy Absorption

    Quanqing Tao1,*, Qingping Ma1, Xu Song1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.31, No.3, pp. 1-1, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.011311

Abstract This paper explores the design and fabrication of ultralight, rib-strengthened mechanical metamaterials, specifically focusing on thin-walled lattice structure and rib-formed lattice structure in micro 3D printing. The lattice structures, based on triply periodic minimal surfaces (TPMS) and constant mean curvature surfaces (CMCS), provide large surface areas and continuous internal channels with lightweight and multifunctional structural applications. Algorithm designed in this paper incorporates a dynamics relaxation solver to generate pure TPMS and ribbed CMCS, enhancing the lattice design of metamaterials and the use of parametric modeling facilitates the creation of metamaterial lattice models. Impact Response of Hybrid Laminates Made with GFRP, TPU and Rubber

Muhd Azimin bin Ab Ghani1, Zhongwei Guan2,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.31, No.3, pp. 1-1, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.011074

Abstract Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) offers a superior impact and perforation resistance. This paper presents a study on manufacturing a range of hybrid laminated structures made of TPU, glass fibre reinforced plastic (GFRP), styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) and metal mesh materials, and further on investigating the structural response of the TPU based composite sandwich laminated structures. These laminated structures were tested under quasi-static perforation and low velocity impact loading to determine their structural responses and energy absorption characteristics. It has been shown that three-layer and five-layer laminates with lay-ups of GFRP-TPU-GFRP or TPU-GFRP-TPU and GFRP-TPU-GFRP-TPU-GFRP or TPU-GFRP-TPU-GFRP-TPU subjected… More >

Combined Wind-Storage Frequency Modulation Control Strategy Based on Fuzzy Prediction and Dynamic Control

    Weiru Wang1, Yulong Cao1,*, Yanxu Wang1, Jiale You1, Guangnan Zhang1, Yu Xiao2

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.12, pp. 3801-3823, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2024.055398 - 22 November 2024

Abstract To ensure frequency stability in power systems with high wind penetration, the doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) is often used with the frequency fast response control (FFRC) to participate in frequency response. However, a certain output power suppression amount (OPSA) is generated during frequency support, resulting in the frequency modulation (FM) capability of DFIG not being fully utilised, and the system’s unbalanced power will be increased during speed recovery, resulting in a second frequency drop (SFD) in the system. Firstly, the frequency response characteristics of the power system with DFIG containing FFRC are analysed. Then, based… More >
