    Jin Yang1,2, Wen Liang1, Xingyang He1,2,*, Ying Su1,2, Fulong Wang1, Tie Wang1, Jianxiang Huang1

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.1, pp. 15-27, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.018135

Abstract A solution polymerization method has been used to synthesize a polyacrylic-type superabsorbent polymer (SAP). The influence of various influential factors, such as the temperature, neutralization degree, cross-linking agent, and initiator, on the water absorption capacity of SAP has been investigated. The results show that the absorption can display a non-monotonic behavior depending on the synthesis conditions. The absorption can also change according to the pH, ion types and ion concentration. As the pH value increases, the water absorption capacity decreases significantly. It also decreases if the Na+ concentration becomes higher and becomes particularly low in solutions containing Mg2+. With the… More >

Synthesis of Lignin-Based Polyacid in an Acidic Ionic Liquid: A Green Method to Improve the Performance of Lignin as Catalyst in Urea-Formaldehyde Resin

    Hamed Younesi-Kordkheili1,*, Antonio Pizzi2

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.2, pp. 237-246, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.017851

Abstract The aim of this research was to investigate the effect of ionic liquid treated lignin-based polyacid as a catalyst for urea-formaldehyde (UF) resins. Esterification of lignin was carried out, without any catalyst, with anhydride maleic and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hydrogen sulfate [Bmim][HSO4] as acidic ionic liquid to form maleated lignin-based polyacids (MA-IL). The performance of MA-IL as UF resin catalyst was respectively compared to hyroxymethylated lignin-based polyacid (MA-HL) and to NH4Cl. The FTIR analysis indicated that the proportion of -COOH and C-O bonds increased due to the esterification of lignin with ionic liquid rather than its hyroxymethylation. Physicochemical tests indicated that the… More >

Lingqin Zhang, Qifeng Jiang, Yiming Zhao, Jie Yuan, Xiaoying Zha, Haojiang Xie, Fankai Kong, Xingliang Xiong*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.2, pp. 415-430, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.016650

Abstract The hydrogel is a preferred material for flexible wearable sensors. In practical application, it should have high-efficiency mechanical toughness and self-healing performance. Besides, hydrogel requires good affinity and adhesion because of its contact with the skin. In this experiment, we made an ultra-tough hydrogel with excellent cell affinity and adhesion. We used sodium alginate (SA) and polyacrylamide (PAm) mixture as a flexible base fluid. Polydopamine reduce graphene oxide (prGO) was used as conductive nanofiller, and then PAm-prGO-SA semi-interpenetrating network hydrogel was formed through Am radical polymerization. The presence of prGO endows the hydrogels with excellent electrical conductivity. Simultaneously, some non-reduced… More >
