    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.5, pp. 1083-1090, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.021970

Abstract The combined use of silica fume (SF) and ceramic waste (CW) for the production of mortar is studied. Sand is replaced by 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% of CW while a fixed 5% percentage (% wt of cement) of SF is used. The results show that the best results are obtained by using silica fume and ceramic waste sand with 15% weight of sand and 5% wt of cement. With the addition of sand ceramic waste (SCW), the mortar compressive strength and density increase, while the porosity displays an opposite trend. The experimental analysis is complemented with theoretical considerations on… More > Graphic Abstract

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.16, No.2, pp. 145-161, 2022, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2022.022241

Abstract With the construction of automated docks, health monitoring technology as a parallel safety assurance technology for unmanned hoisting machinery has become a hot spot in the development of the industry. Hoisting machinery has a huge structure and numerous welded joints. The complexity and nonlinearity of the welded structure itself makes the structural failure parts random and difficult to arrange for monitoring sensors. In order to solve the problem of effectiveness and stability of the sensor arrangement method for monitoring the structure of hoisting machinery. Using the global and local search capabilities enhanced by the complementary search mechanism, a structural vibration… More >

Abstract Understanding the assembly and spatial arrangement of bamboo cell wall components is crucial for its optimal utilization. Bamboo cell walls consist of aggregates of cellulose microfibrils and matrix. In the present study, the size and arrangement of cellulose microfibril aggregates in the cell walls of sclerenchyma fibers and parenchyma cells in moso bamboo were investigated with NMR and FE-SEM. The NMR measurement showed that the characteristic sizes of the microfibril aggregates of fibers and parenchyma cells were approximately 25.8 nm and 18.8 nm, respectively. Furthermore, high-resolution SEM showed the size of microfibril aggregates varied little across the cell wall of… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.62, No.3, pp. 1303-1315, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.06584

Abstract In order to study the wind-induced vibration control effect of the viscous damper on the large-scale substation frame, this paper takes the large-scale 1000 kV substation frame of western Inner Mongolia as an example. The time-history sample of pulsating wind load is simulated by harmonic superposition method based on Matlab software. 6 kinds of viscous damper arrangement schemes have been designed, and SAP2000 finite element software is used for fine modeling and input wind speed time history load for nonlinear time history analysis. The displacement and acceleration of a typical node are the indicators of wind vibration control. The wind-induced… More >

A six-rhabdomere, open rhabdom arrangement in the eye of the chrysanthemum beetle Phytoecia rufiventris: some ecophysiological predictions based on eye anatomy

    VICTOR BENNO MEYER-ROCHOW1,2,*, MONALISA MISHRA1

    BIOCELL, Vol.33, No.2, pp. 115-120, 2009, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2009.33.115

Abstract We are describing a rhabdom organization of the eye of the chrysanthemum beetle Phytoecia rufiventris that to date has not been described from any other insect. In cerambycid beetles free rhabdomeres, forming a circular, open rhabdom, surround a central rhabdom made up of the rhabdomeres of one or two cells. In Phytoecia rufiventris the central rhabdomeres are missing throughout the eye and the microvilli of the outer 6 rhabdomeres are regularly oriented in three directions. Following the classification of rhabdom types suggested by Wachmann (1979), we suggest to name the rhabdom arrangement seen in the retina of Phytoecia rufiventris “Grundmuster… More >

A male-sterile mutation in soybean (Glycine max) affecting chromosome arrangement in metaphase plate and cytokinesis

NILTON CESAR PIRES BIONE1, MARIA SUELY PAGLIARINI2, LEONES ALVES DE ALMEIDA3

    BIOCELL, Vol.29, No.2, pp. 177-181, 2005, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2005.29.177

Abstract A spontaneous male-sterile, female-fertile mutation affecting bivalent arrangement at the metaphase plate and cytokinesis was detected in line BR98-197 of the soybean breeding program developed by Embrapa – National Soybean Research Centre. Untill diakinesis, meiosis was normal with chromosome pairing as bivalents. From this phase, in several meiocytes, bivalents were not able to organize a single metaphase plate and remained scattered in the cytoplasm in a few or several groups. In these meiocytes, chromosomes segregated in both divisions giving rise to several micronuclei. However, the main cause of male sterility was the absence of cytokinesis after telophase II. Instead of… More >

Abstract Low cost heat charge and discharge can be realized by the single storage thermal tank integrated with a coil heat exchanger and an annular baffle. Arrangements of the coil heat exchanger will directly affect the heat discharging performance of the system. Simulations were performed for six arrangements of the coil heat exchanger which are evaluated by outlet temperature, heat transfer rate and heat discharging efficiency. For different arrangements, the law of heat discharging performance of the single thermal storage tank is given, and the change of flow field around the coil heat exchanger is analyzed. The results show that the… More >

    Mohsen Ghorbani1, Hossein Eisazadeh2

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.13, No.4, pp. 67-68, 2009, DOI:10.3970/icces.2009.013.067

Abstract Polypyrrole/Poly(vinyl acetate) (PPy/PVAc) copolymer was prepared by the copolymerization of vinyl acetate and pyrrole using FeCl3 and benzoylperoxide as an oxidant in the presence of various surfactants such as sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate and poly (ethylene glycol) in the aqueous/non-aqueous media. The PPy/PVAc copolymer was characterized in terms of conductivity, morphology, chemical structure, particle size and yield. The results indicate that the morphology, particle size, yield and electrical conductivity of the products are dependent on the type of surfactant and the arrangement of monomer injection. The chemical structure of obtained product was determined by FTIR spectroscopy. By comparison FTIR spectra between pure… More >
