    Quan Wen1, Fulei Jing1,*, Changxian Zhang1, Shibai Tang1, Junjie Yang2,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.132, No.2, pp. 361-391, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.019528

Abstract Thermally grown oxide (TGO) is a critical factor for the service life of thermal barrier coatings (TBC). Numerical simulations of the growth process of TGO have become an effective means of comprehensively understanding the progressive damage of the TBC system. At present, technologies of numerical simulation to TGO growth include two categories: coupled chemical-mechanical methods and mechanical equivalent methods. The former is based on the diffusion analysis of oxidizing elements, which can describe the influence of bond coat (BC) consumption and phase transformation in the growth process of TGO on the mechanical behavior of each layer of TBC, and has… More >

    Xiang Rao1,2,*, Yina Liu1,2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.131, No.3, pp. 1403-1429, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.018879

Abstract Projection-based embedded discrete fracture model (pEDFM) is an effective numerical model to handle the flow in fractured reservoirs, with high efficiency and strong generalization of flow models. However, this paper points out that pEDFM fails to handle flow barriers in most cases, and identifies the physical projection configuration of fractures is a key step in pEDFM. This paper presents and proves the equivalence theorem, which explains the geometric nature of physical projection configurations of fractures, that is, the projection configuration of a fracture being physical is equivalent to it being topologically homeomorphic to the fracture, by analyzing the essence of… More >

Abstract Phytohormones play important roles in plant growth and development, and polyploids are thought to be an important method for plant breeding. However, the relationship between ploidy and phytohormone is still unclear. In this study, barley at three ploidy levels were produced by microspore culture. Therefore, we further analyzed the phytohormone content in the shoots and roots of the three kinds of barley materials to study the effect of ploidy on phytohormones accumulation and distribution. The results showed that Abscisic acid (ABA), gibberellin (GA), jasmonic acid (JA), auxin (IAA), salicylic acid (SA) and cytokinin (CTK) were successfully determined in shoots and… More >

Time-Variant Reliability-Based Multi-Objective Fuzzy Design Optimization for Anti-Roll Torsion Bar of EMU

    Pengpeng Zhi1,2,3, Zhonglai Wang1,2,*, Bingzhi Chen3, Ziqiang Sheng4

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.131, No.2, pp. 1001-1022, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.019835

Abstract Although various types of anti-roll torsion bars have been developed to inhibit excessive roll angle of the electric multiple unit (EMU) car body, it is critical to ensure the reliability of structural design due to the complexity of the problems involving time and uncertainties. To address this issue, a multi-objective fuzzy design optimization model is constructed considering time-variant stiffness and strength reliability constraints for the anti-roll torsion bar. A hybrid optimization strategy combining the design of experiment (DoE) sampling and non-linear programming by quadratic lagrangian (NLPQL) is presented to deal with the design optimization model. To characterize the effect of… More >

How Do Water Filled Traffic Barriers Shake a Suspension Bridge?

    Guanni Qu1,#, Tianai Yue2,#,*, Xiaoyu Zhang3, Shibiao Wei3

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.3, pp. 591-608, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.017776

Abstract The present study stems from the realization that the general problem relating to the analysis of wind-induced vibrations in suspension bridges still requires significant attention. Sidewalk railings, overhaul tracks, and deflectors are known to largely affect such dynamics. Here, the influence of a row of water-filled traffic barriers on the response of a sample suspension bridge is investigated numerically. It is shown that the existence of water barriers causes flow separation and non-negligible vortices with respect to the condition with no water barriers. The vortex shedding frequency at the far end is around 41.30 Hz, relatively close to the real… More >

    Yingbo Li1,2,#, Ting He1,2,#, Guimei Guo1,2, Hongwei Xu1,2, Yingjie Zong1,2, Shuwei Zhang1,2, Ruiju Lu1,2, Longhua Zhou1,2,*, Chenghong Liu1,2,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.91, No.6, pp. 1153-1164, 2022, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.019520

Abstract Agrobacterium-mediated transformation has been widely used in plants. However, the mechanism in plant cells’ response to Agrobacterium infection was very complex. The mechanism of the determinants in host cell remains obscure, especially in barley, which is recalcitrant for Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. In the present study, microspore-derived embryogenic calli (MDEC) from barley elite cultivar were employed as unique subjects to characterize the mechanisms during the Agrobacterium infection process. Hua 30 MDEC can be successfully infected by Agrobacterium. RNA-sequencing at different infection points (0, 2, 6, 12, 24 hpi) was performed. The average expressional intensity of the whole genomics increased from 0 to… More >

Mass-Stiffness Templates for Cubic Structural Elements

    Carlos A. Felippa*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.129, No.3, pp. 1209-1241, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2021.016803

Abstract This paper considers Lagrangian finite elements for structural dynamics constructed with cubic displacement shape functions. The method of templates is used to investigate the construction of accurate mass-stiffness pairs. This method introduces free parameters that can be adjusted to customize elements according to accuracy and rank-sufficiency criteria. One- and two-dimensional Lagrangian cubic elements with only translational degrees of freedom (DOF) carry two additional nodes on each side, herein called side nodes or SN. Although usually placed at the third-points, the SN location may be adjusted within geometric limits. The adjustment effect is studied in detail using symbolic computations for a… More >

Revisiting miR-155 in intervertebral disc degeneration: blood cell signature and local cell-free profiles

    ZHIHENG LIU1,2, ZHEN SUN3, ZHONGYUAN WAN4, HAIQIANG WANG2,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.2, pp. 511-517, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2021.016194

Abstract We unraveled the expression profiles of coding-noncoding RNAs in intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD). However, it remains elusive regarding miR-155 expression in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and local extracellular space in IDD. The study aimed for investigating the miR-155 expression of PBMCs, extracellular miRNAs (ex-miRNAs) of human nucleus pulposus (NP) tissues, and morphological changes of cell death in the IDD process. Here, we harvested peripheral blood and NP samples from scoliosis and IDD patients as control and degenerative groups, respectively. Then standard Ficoll density-gradient centrifugation was used to isolate PBMCs. The two subpopulations of PBMCs were divided based on the… More >
