Manoj Kr. Triveni*, Dipak Sen, RajSekhar Panua

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.6, pp. 1-6, 2015, DOI:10.5098/hmt.6.2

Abstract A numerical investigation through laminar natural convection has been executed to illuminate the effect of curvature ratio in an arch enclosure filled with water. The left side wall of the cavity is maintained at a higher temperature than that of the right side wall while the other walls are kept insulated. The governing equations such as continuity, momentum and energy equation are solved by finite volume method. The effect of pertinent parameters such as curvature ratio (1≤ CR ≤ 1.5) and Rayleigh number (1×104 ≤ Ra ≤ 1×106) and) on heat transfer are calculated by commercial available computational fluid dynamics… More >

MHD MIXED CONVECTION AND ENTROPY GENERATION IN A 3D LID-DRIVEN CAVITY

    Lioua Kolsia,b,*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.7, pp. 1-10, 2016, DOI:10.5098/hmt.7.26

Abstract In this study, the effects of Richardson and Hartmann numbers on heat and mass transfer in a three-dimensional lid-driven cubical cavity subjected to a uniform magnetic field are investigated numerically. The lid is maintained at constant high temperature and is moving downwards in the negative y-direction. The wall opposite to the lid is stationary and maintained at constant low temperature, and all other walls are kept adiabatic. Entropy generation is also calculated to investigate the nature of irreversibility in heat transfer inside the cavity. The computations are performed for the Richardson numbers 10 and 100, and Hartmann number in the… More >

    Fakher Oueslatia,b,†, Brahim Ben-Beyab

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.8, pp. 1-11, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.8.38

Abstract The current study deals with a numerical investigation of magnetoconvection and entropy generation within a lid driven square cavity subject to uniform magnetic field and filled with liquid metal. Effects of multiple parameters namely; the Prandtl, Hartmann and Richardson numbers were predicted and analyzed using a numerical methodology based on the finite volume method and a full multigrid technique. The numerical outcome of the present study shows that, the enhancement of Hartmann number declines the heat transfer rate for all liquid metals considered. Moreover, it is observed that augmenting the Richardson number leads to acceleration of the flow with a… More >

COMPUTATIONAL INVESTIGATION OF DOUBLE-DIFFUSIVE MIXED CONVECTIVE FLOW IN AN ENCLOSED SQUARE CAVITY WITH SORET EFFECT

    C. G. Mohan, A. Satheesh*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.8, pp. 1-13, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.8.36

Abstract In this study, a two-dimensional steady state double-diffusive mixed convective flow in a square cavity with Soret effect is presented. The numerical investigation is considered with two different conditions, (a) top and bottom walls move with same velocity (Uo) towards right and (b) top wall moves towards right and bottom wall moves towards left with the same velocity (Uo). The left and right walls remain stationary. The top and bottom walls are adiabatic; the left wall is maintained at high temperature and concentration. The right wall is maintained at low temperature and concentration. Governing equations are solved by finite volume… More >

Abdullah A.A.A. Al-Rasheda , Lioua Kolsib,d,*, K. Kalidasanc , Chemseddine Maatkid, Mohamed Naceur Borjinid , Mohamed Aichounib, P. Rajesh Kannae

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.8, pp. 1-10, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.8.31

Abstract A finite volume based three dimensional numerical analysis is performed on the effect of angle of inclination of the external magnetic force on entropy generation due to natural convection inside the cubical cavity filled with CNT - water nanofluid. The governing equations are numerically solved by vorticity - vector potential formalism. The vertical walls of enclosure are differentially heated and the horizontal walls are adiabatic. The effect due to Rayleigh number (103 ≤ Ra ≤ 105), Hartmann number (0 ≤ Ha ≤ 100), angle of inclination of external magnetic field (0° ≤ α ≤ 90°) and volumetric fraction (0 ≤… More >

FINITE ELEMENT STUDY OF DDNC IN BOTTOM HEATED ENCLOSURES WITH MASS DIFFUSIVE SIDE WALLS

    Nithish Reddy* , K. Murugesan

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.8, pp. 1-11, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.8.7

Abstract In this paper DDNC phenomenon in a bottom heated enclosure exposed to mass diffusion from its side walls is investigated numerically. The interplay between thermal and solutal buoyancy forces on fluid circulation and heat transfer rates is studied in three different enclosures of aspect ratios 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0. Finite element base numerical code has used to solve the governing equations, here velocity and vorticity are taken as primary variables for flow field. Numerical results are well validated with that of the literature. The relative strength of solutal to thermal buoyancy forces is defined by buoyancy ratio parameter ‘N’, numerical… More >

    K. Venkatadria,*, S. Gouse Mohiddina , M. Suryanarayana Reddyb

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.9, pp. 1-9, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.9.33

Abstract Two-dimensional unsteady laminar double-diffusive free convective flow of a conducting fluid in a thermally insulated square enclosure except the left wall has been numerically studied in presence of heat generation/absorption. The Marker and Cell (MAC) method is employed for solving nonlinear momentum, energy and concentration equations and the numerical MATLAB code is validated with the previous study. The computed results are depicted graphically and discussed for various values of Rayleigh number (Ra), Hartmann number (Ha), Buoyancy ratio parameter (N), Lewis number (Le) and heat absorption/generation parameter (γ). It is observed that the rate of heat and mass transfer decreases with… More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.9, pp. 1-14, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.9.28

Abstract A two-dimensional numerical simulation is conducted to study natural convection flow and heat transfer characteristics in a square cavity filled with a micropolar fluid. The lower and upper walls of the cavity are respectively subject to isothermal heating and cooling while the temperatures of both vertical sides decrease linearly in the upwards direction. The Lattice-Boltzmann Method (LBM), with the multi-relaxation time (MRT) scheme for the collision process, is used to solve the problem with the objective to assess the ability and efficiency of this numerical method to describe the micropolar fluid behavior under the effect of the imposed thermal boundary… More >

Geniy V. Kuznetsov, Alexander E. Nee*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.10, pp. 1-9, 2018, DOI:10.5098/hmt.10.26

Abstract This study deals with the numerical investigation of combined heat transfer via conduction, laminar natural convection, and surface radiation in a closed rectangular cavity with a radiant heating source. Unsteady two-dimensional equations of mass, momentum, and energy conservation for complex heat transfer process under study were formulated in terms of the vorticity – stream function – temperature variables and solved by means of the finite difference method on a uniform grid. Developed numerical code was validated against two benchmark problems of convective and convective-radiative heat transfer. When analyzing complex heat transfer regularities, we varied the following parameters: dimensionless time 5… More >
