Jintao He, Dong Lei*, Xuwei Cui, Pengxiang Bai, Feipeng Zhu

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.21, No.4, pp. 78-78, 2019, DOI:10.32604/icces.2019.05228

Abstract With the combination of scanning electron microscope (SEM) and digital image correlation (DIC), the mechanical properties of interfacial transition zone (ITZ) in concrete are experimentally studied. The experimental compression tests are performed on cuboid samples whose half part is aggregate and the other part is mortar. The morphology of the ITZ is captured by SEM under compressive load, and from the recorded images the deformation of the ITZ is analyzed. After that, the distribution of the nominal compressive elastic modulus of the ITZ is obtained along the distance from the aggregate to the mortar, which can be used to characterize… More >

    G. Davì1, A. Milazzo1, C. Orlando1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.15, No.4, pp. 129-136, 2010, DOI:10.3970/icces.2010.015.129

Abstract A dual reciprocity based boundary element approach for the analysis of magneto-electric laminates free vibration behavior is presented. The problem is formulated employing generalized displacements, that is displacements and electric and magnetic scalar potentials, and the corresponding generalized tractions. The generalized boundary integral representation is deduced by extending the reciprocity theorem to magneto-electro-elasticity problem and the multidomain boundary element technique is used to model multilayer structures. The magneto-electro-elastic static fundamental solutions are used jointly with the dual reciprocity method to transform the inertia domain integral into a boundary integral. Numerical results are presented focusing on the effects of the electro-magnetic… More >

    L. Zhang1, T. Boulet1, J. Hein1, M. Arnoult1, M. Negahban1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.15, No.2, pp. 37-46, 2010, DOI:10.3970/icces.2010.015.037

Abstract The modeling of the response of the human head to blast like loading is of importance for many applications including the study of traumatic brain injury resulting from improvised explosive devices. One key issue in simulating the response of the head is to have models that are characteristic of the response of the head and its components under these conditions. We review different characterization efforts for evaluating the response of the skin, skull, and brain within this window of response and use these results to develop models appropriate for the characterization of each component. We discuss efforts made to construct… More >

    L. Donati, L. Tomesani

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.12, No.1, pp. 37-38, 2009, DOI:10.3970/icces.2009.012.037

Abstract In recent years aluminum extruded hollow profiles are increasingly used in near-net shape manufacturing processes such as bending and hydroforming; in fact, by applying these secondary processes, it is possible to obtain very high complex parts, especially for the transport industry. It is known that hollow profiles obtained by direct hot extrusion necessarily have some longitudinal welding lines (so called seam welds) produced inside the die and it is common experience, during secondary forming processes, the appearance of early cracking in proximity of those lines [1,2]. At the same time, the direct hot extrusion is the only process able to… More >

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.12, No.1, pp. 11-12, 2009, DOI:10.3970/icces.2009.012.011

Abstract Concrete structures such as concrete safety barriers are often subjected to direct impact loads mainly due to vehicle crash impact. In this case, the impact resistance is one of the most critical characteristic of concrete used in such structures. The present study aims to characterize the impact resistance of lightweight aggregate cellular concrete (LACC), which will be used in concrete barriers. Impact tests on LACC specimens were carried out based on the repeated drop-weight impact test guideline recommend by ACI committee 544. Impact resistance and compressive strength of the LACC specimens were characterized and the results were used to determine… More >

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.7, No.10, pp. 1037-1046, 2019, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2019.07454

Abstract In order to improve the mechanical properties without reducing its flame retardancy of phenolic foams (PFs), 9, 10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO) was introduced in the structure of cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL) to improve its flame retardant, and the product of DOPO grafting CNSL (DOPO-g-CNSL) was obtained to modify phenolic resin, and to prepare DOPO-g-CNSL modified PFs (DCMPFs). The structures of DOPO-g-CNSL were verified by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR). Compared with CNSL, thermal stability of DOPO-g-CNSL was decreased and Ti decreased by 3.53%, but the residual carbon (800°C) was increased by 35.05%. Compared with pure PF,… More >

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.7, No.6, pp. 557-566, 2019, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2019.00141

Abstract Nanofibrillated wood fiber was used as fillers in the partial cement matrix replacing the cement to a content of up to 2% by weight of cement. The nanofibrillated effect of wood fibers on porosity, thermal properties and compressive strength was studied. The results obtained showed an improvement in compressive strength of more than 40% with 1% by weight of wood fiber nanofibrillate. The addition of nanofibrillated wood fiber shows a good pore reduction, and the best result was obtained with emulsion of a mixture incorporating 1% by weight of wood fiber nanofibrillate in the presence of an anionic surfactant (SDBS).… More >

    Nantharat Phruksaphithak1,*, Chalermkiet Kaewnun2, Sompong O-Thong2

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.7, No.5, pp. 493-504, 2019, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2019.00020

Abstract A new biocomposite was preformed between bacterial cellulose (BC) pellicle and polyethylene glycol (PEG) at different concentrations (0%, 5, 10%, 15% and 20%) and different molecular weight (600, 1000 and 2000). The structure and mechanical properties of BC/PEG biocomposite were investigated. The results indicated that the properties of the BC were improved by the addition of PEG. The morphology of the BC and BC/PEG blend was examined by a scanning electron microscope (SEM). These showed that PEG was coated with a large pore size fibril on the BC and the BC/PEG was dense with an even and smooth surface. All… More >
