Abstract Visible light communication (VLC) has a paramount role in industrial implementations, especially for better energy efficiency, high speed-data rates, and low susceptibility to interference. However, since studies on VLC for industrial implementations are in scarcity, areas concerning illumination optimisation and communication performances demand further investigation. As such, this paper presents a new modelling of light fixture distribution for a warehouse model to provide acceptable illumination and communication performances. The proposed model was evaluated based on various semi-angles at half power (SAAHP) and different height levels for several parameters, including received power, signal to noise ratio (SNR), and bit error rate… More >

    Siyi Duan1, Mingsheng Wei1,*, Shidang Li1,*, Weiqiang Tan2, Bencheng Yu3

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.138, No.1, pp. 619-638, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.029572

Abstract This paper examines the performance of Full-Duplex Cooperative Rate Splitting (FD-CRS) with Simultaneous Wireless Information and Power Transfer (SWIPT) support in Multiple Input Single Output (MISO) networks. In a Rate Splitting Multiple Access (RSMA) multicast system with two local users and one remote user, the common data stream contains the needs of all users, and all users can decode the common data stream. Therefore, each user can receive some information that other users need, and local users with better channel conditions can use this information to further enhance the reception reliability and data rate of users with poor channel quality.… More >

    Lilan Zou1, Bo Liang1, Xu Cheng2, Shufa Li1,*, Cong Lin1,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.137, No.3, pp. 2641-2659, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.028037

Abstract Target signal acquisition and detection based on sonar images is a challenging task due to the complex underwater environment. In order to solve the problem that some semantic information in sonar images is lost and model detection performance is degraded due to the complex imaging environment, we proposed a more effective and robust target detection framework based on deep learning, which can make full use of the acoustic shadow information in the forward-looking sonar images to assist underwater target detection. Firstly, the weighted box fusion method is adopted to generate a fusion box by weighted fusion of prediction boxes with… More > Graphic Abstract

    Adil Hussain1, Kashif Naseer Qureshi2,*, Khalid Javeed3, Musaed Alhussein4

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.47, No.2, pp. 2513-2528, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.040305

Abstract Information and communication technologies are spreading rapidly due to their fast proliferation in many fields. The number of Internet users has led to a spike in cyber-attack incidents. E-commerce applications, such as online banking, marketing, trading, and other online businesses, play an integral role in our lives. Network Intrusion Detection System (NIDS) is essential to protect the network from unauthorized access and against other cyber-attacks. The existing NIDS systems are based on the Backward Oracle Matching (BOM) algorithm, which minimizes the false alarm rate and causes of high packet drop ratio. This paper discussed the existing NIDS systems and different… More >

Performance Analysis of ACO-OFDM Visible Light Communication System Based on SCMA

    Xiukai Ruan1, Shahid Iqbal Awan2,*

    Journal on Internet of Things, Vol.4, No.4, pp. 215-225, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jiot.2022.038270

Abstract A SCMA ACO-OFDM downlink visible light communication (VLC) system is proposed. Six users share four spectrum resources, four of which are 4 primary color LED lights. ACO-OFDM technology is used to convert the user’s sparse codebook mapped signal into a positive real value signal that can be carried on the light wave, which can realize high-speed parallel communication. Simulation verifies the feasibility of the system. At the same time, the channel model of visible light communication is constructed, and the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) and channel gain of the visible light channel are systematically analyzed. Finally, the theoretical bit error rate formula… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.137, No.1, pp. 775-787, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.027427

Abstract In this paper, we investigate the end-to-end performance of intelligent reflecting surface (IRS)-assisted wireless communication systems. We consider a system in which an IRS is deployed on a uniform planar array (UPA) configuration, including a large number of reflecting elements, where the transmitters and receivers are only equipped with a single antenna. Our objective is to analytically obtain the achievable ergodic rate, outage probability, and bit error rate (BER) of the system. Furthermore, to maximize the system’s signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), we design the phase shift of each reflecting element and derive the optimal reflection phase of the IRS based on… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract Visible light communication (VLC), which is a prominent emerging solution that complements the radio frequency (RF) technology, exhibits the potential to meet the demands of fifth-generation (5G) and beyond technologies. The random movement of mobile terminals in the indoor environment is a challenge in the VLC system. The model of optical attocells has a critical role in the uniform distribution and the quality of communication links in terms of received power and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). As such, the optical attocells positions were optimized in this study with a developed try and error (TE) algorithm. The optimized optical attocells were examined… More >

Machine Learning-Based Channel State Estimators for 5G Wireless Communication Systems

    Mohamed Hassan Essai Ali1,*, Fahad Alraddady2, Mo’ath Y. Al-Thunaibat3, Shaima Elnazer2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.135, No.1, pp. 755-778, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.022246

Abstract For a 5G wireless communication system, a convolutional deep neural network (CNN) is employed to synthesize a robust channel state estimator (CSE). The proposed CSE extracts channel information from transmit-and-receive pairs through offline training to estimate the channel state information. Also, it utilizes pilots to offer more helpful information about the communication channel. The proposed CNN-CSE performance is compared with previously published results for Bidirectional/long short-term memory (BiLSTM/LSTM) NNs-based CSEs. The CNN-CSE achieves outstanding performance using sufficient pilots only and loses its functionality at limited pilots compared with BiLSTM and LSTM-based estimators. Using three different loss function-based classification layers and… More >

Analysis of LDPC Code in Hybrid Communication Systems

    Hasnain Kashif1,*, Muhammad Nasir Khan1, Zubair Nawaz2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.1, pp. 769-781, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.032565

Abstract Free-space optical (FSO) communication is of supreme importance for designing next-generation networks. Over the past decades, the radio frequency (RF) spectrum has been the main topic of interest for wireless technology. The RF spectrum is becoming denser and more employed, making its availability tough for additional channels. Optical communication, exploited for messages or indications in historical times, is now becoming famous and useful in combination with error-correcting codes (ECC) to mitigate the effects of fading caused by atmospheric turbulence. A free-space communication system (FSCS) in which the hybrid technology is based on FSO and RF. FSCS is a capable solution… More >
