    Gang Niu1,2, Zhaoyang Jin2, Wei Zhang3,*, Yiqun Huang3

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.18, No.2, pp. 161-179, 2024, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2023.044580

Abstract Amid urbanization and the continuous expansion of transportation networks, the necessity for tunnel construction and maintenance has become paramount. Addressing this need requires the investigation of efficient, economical, and robust tunnel reinforcement techniques. This paper explores fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) and steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) technologies, which have emerged as viable solutions for enhancing tunnel structures. FRP is celebrated for its lightweight and high-strength attributes, effectively augmenting load-bearing capacity and seismic resistance, while SFRC’s notable crack resistance and longevity potentially enhance the performance of tunnel segments. Nonetheless, current research predominantly focuses on experimental analysis, lacking comprehensive theoretical models. To… More > Graphic Abstract

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.138, No.3, pp. 2403-2419, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.031260

Abstract Eddy current dampers (ECDs) have emerged as highly desirable solutions for vibration control due to their exceptional damping performance and durability. However, the existing constitutive models present challenges to the widespread implementation of ECD technology, and there is limited availability of finite element analysis (FEA) software capable of accurately modeling the behavior of ECDs. This study addresses these issues by developing a new constitutive model that is both easily understandable and user-friendly for FEA software. By utilizing numerical results obtained from electromagnetic FEA, a novel power law constitutive model is proposed to capture the nonlinear behavior of ECDs. The effectiveness… More >

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.27, No.1, pp. 1-2, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09586

Abstract The tests of dynamic mechanical properties of materials at high temperature and high strain rate has always been a difficult issue [1]. In order to perform the dynamic mechanical properties of G550 cold-formed steel at high temperature and high strain rate, a set of Hopkinson Tension test device which can synchronize with high temperature control is developed for material test [2]. The stress-strain curves obtained from the tests were used to explore the influence of temperature and strain rate on the rheological properties of material by combining micro-analysis. The results show that G550 cold-formed steel has obvious strain rate hardening… More >

    Xinliang Li1, Jiangang Guo1,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.27, No.1, pp. 1-2, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09484

Abstract As the first two-dimensional (2D) material discovered in experiments, graphene has attracted increasing attention from the scientific community [1]. And it possesses many superb mechanical, electronic and optical properties [2-4] due to its unique atomic structure. Its Young’s modulus and failure strength are 1TPa and 130GPa [5], respectively. Thus, 2D graphene has been extensively used in nanosensors and nanocomposites [6-8], etc. In order to fabricate graphene-based devices which inherit outstanding properties of 2D graphene, materials scientists are trying to use 2D graphene as building blocks to construct three-dimensional (3D) carbon nanomaterials, such as 3D graphene networks [9-11]. Nowadays, these 3D… More >

    Xueling Fan1,*, Pin Lu1, Xiaochao Jin1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.25, No.2, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09919

Abstract Ni-based single crystal superalloys have been favored in the high-temperature service zones of aeroengine and gas turbine due to its excellent mechanical properties at high temperature. It is very significant to construct a constitutive model that can accurately capture the mechanical response of Ni-based single crystals for simulation analysis. In this work, a forest dislocation density-based single crystal plasticity constitutive model was developed to capture the mechanical behavior of Ni-based single crystals, including the temperature dependent anomalous yield and tension/compression asymmetry. Firstly, thermally activated cross-slip mechanism was introduced into the hardening model to describe the anomalous yield response. Secondly, the… More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.13, pp. 1-8, 2019, DOI:10.5098/hmt.13.19

Abstract In some recent studies, it has been suggested that non–Newtonian fluid flow can be modeled by a spatially non–local velocity, whose dynamics are described by a fractional derivative. In this study, we use the space fractional constitutive relation to model heat and mass transfer in a nanofluid. We present a numerically accurate algorithm for approximating solutions of the system of fractional ordinary differential equations describing the nanofluid flow. We present numerically stable differentiation matrices for both integer and fractional order derivatives defined by the one–sided Caputo derivative. The differentiation matrices are based on the series expansion of the unknown functions… More >

    Yinlong Wang1, Zhao Li2, Ziran Li1,*, Yang Wang1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.135, No.2, pp. 1187-1208, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.022596

Abstract The comprehensive tire building and shaping processes are investigated through the finite element method (FEM) in this article. The mechanical properties of the uncured rubber from different tire components are investigated through cyclic loading-unloading experiments under different strain rates. Based on the experiments, an elasto-viscoplastic constitutive model is adopted to describe the mechanical behaviors of the uncured rubber. The distinct mechanical properties, including the stress level, hysteresis and residual strain, of the uncured rubber can all be well characterized. The whole tire building process (including component winding, rubber bladder inflation, component stitching and carcass band folding-back) and the shaping process… More >

Computational-Analysis of the Non-Isothermal Dynamics of the Gravity-Driven Flow of Viscoelastic-Fluid-Based Nanofluids Down an Inclined Plane

    Idrees Khan1,2, Tiri Chinyoka1,2,*, Andrew Gill3

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.3, pp. 767-781, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.021921

Abstract The paper explores the gravity-driven flow of the thin film of a viscoelastic-fluid-based nanofluids (VFBN) along an inclined plane under non-isothermal conditions and subjected to convective cooling at the free-surface. The Newton’s law of cooling is used to model the convective heat-exchange with the ambient at the free-surface. The Giesekus viscoelastic constitutive model, with appropriate modifications to account for non-isothermal effects, is employed to describe the polymeric effects. The unsteady and coupled non-linear partial differential equations (PDEs) describing the model problem are obtained and solved via efficient semi-implicit numerical schemes based on finite difference methods (FDM) implemented in Matlab. Chunli Meng1, Weishu Fu1,*, Jianzeng Shen2,*, Yisheng Su1,2, Chunying Ye1

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.2, pp. 581-598, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.022074

Abstract Different rubber aggregates lead to changes in the effect of stress conditions on the mechanical behavior of concrete, and studies on the triaxial properties of self-compacting rubber concrete (SCRC) are rare. In this study, 35 cylindrical specimens taking lateral stress and rubber type as variables were prepared to study the fresh properties and mechanical behaviors of SCRC under triaxial compression, where the rubber contains two types, i.e., 380 μm rubber powder and 1–4 mm rubber particles, and four contents, i.e., 10%, 20% and 30%. The test results demonstrated that SCRC exhibited a typical oblique shear failure mode under triaxial compression… More > Graphic Abstract

    Bingfei Liu1,*, Yangjie Hao2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.131, No.3, pp. 1601-1613, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.019226

Abstract By adding copper to increase the performance, the Ni-Ti-Cu Shape Memory Alloy (SMA), has been widely used in the field of engineering in recent years. A thermodynamic constitutive model for Ni-Ti-Cu SMA considering different copper contents is established in this work. Numerical results for two different copper contents, as examples, are compared with the experimental results to verify the accuracy of the theoretical work. Based on the verified constitutive model, the effects of different copper content on the mechanical properties of Ni-Ti-Cu SMA and the tensile and compressive asymmetric properties of Ni-Ti-Cu SMA are finally discussed, respectively.
