Abstract The exponential increase in new coronavirus disease 2019 ({COVID-19}) cases and deaths has made COVID-19 the leading cause of death in many countries. Thus, in this study, we propose an efficient technique for the automatic detection of COVID-19 and pneumonia based on X-ray images. A stacked denoising convolutional autoencoder (SDCA) model was proposed to classify X-ray images into three classes: normal, pneumonia, and {COVID-19}. The SDCA model was used to obtain a good representation of the input data and extract the relevant features from noisy images. The proposed model’s architecture mainly composed of eight autoencoders, which were fed to two… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.69, No.3, pp. 3127-3143, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.018230

Abstract Medical Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a noninvasive, nonradioactive, and meticulous diagnostic modality capability in the field of medical imaging. However, the efficiency of MR image reconstruction is affected by its bulky image sets and slow process implementation. Therefore, to obtain a high-quality reconstructed image we presented a sparse aware noise removal technique that uses convolution neural network (SANR_CNN) for eliminating noise and improving the MR image reconstruction quality. The proposed noise removal or denoising technique adopts a fast CNN architecture that aids in training larger datasets with improved quality, and SARN algorithm is used for building a dictionary learning technique… More >

    P. Vinayagam1,*, P. Anandan2, N. Kumaratharan3

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.30, No.3, pp. 869-879, 2021, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2021.016761

Abstract Recent advances in the development of image denoising applications for eliminating the various sources of noise in digital images have employed hardware platforms based on field programmable gate arrays for attaining speed and efficiency, which are essential factors in real-time applications. However, image denoising providing for maximum denoising performance, speed, and efficiency on these platforms is subject to constant innovation. To this end, the present work proposes a high-throughput fixed-point adaptive edge noise filter architecture to denoise digital images with additive white Gaussian noise in realtime using a nonlinear modified pixel-likeness weighted-frame technique. The proposed architecture works in two stages.… More >

Guided Intra-Patch Smoothing Graph Filtering for Single-Image Denoising

    Yibin Tang1, Ying Chen2, Aimin Jiang1, Jian Li1, Yan Zhou1,*, Hon Keung Kwan3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.69, No.1, pp. 67-80, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.017300

Abstract Graph filtering is an important part of graph signal processing and a useful tool for image denoising. Existing graph filtering methods, such as adaptive weighted graph filtering (AWGF), focus on coefficient shrinkage strategies in a graph-frequency domain. However, they seldom consider the image attributes in their graph-filtering procedure. Consequently, the denoising performance of graph filtering is barely comparable with that of other state-of-the-art denoising methods. To fully exploit the image attributes, we propose a guided intra-patch smoothing AWGF (AWGF-GPS) method for single-image denoising. Unlike AWGF, which employs graph topology on patches, AWGF-GPS learns the topology of superpixels by introducing the… More >

    Hassan Ashraf1, Asim Waris1,*, Syed Omer Gilani1, Muhammad Umair Tariq1, Hani Alquhayz2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.27, No.3, pp. 799-815, 2021, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2021.014765

Abstract Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) is a data-driven and fully adaptive signal decomposition technique to decompose a signal into its Intrinsic Mode Functions (IMF). EMD has attained great attention due to its capabilities to process a signal in the frequency-time domain without altering the signal into the frequency domain. EMD-based signal denoising techniques have shown great potential to denoise nonlinear and nonstationary signals without compromising the signal’s characteristics. The denoising procedure comprises three steps, i.e., signal decomposition, IMF thresholding, and signal reconstruction. Thresholding is performed to assess which IMFs contain noise. In this study, Interval Thresholding (IT), Iterative Interval Thresholding (IIT),… More >

Image Denoising with GAN Based Model

Peizhu Gong, Jin Liu*, Shiqi Lv

Journal of Information Hiding and Privacy Protection, Vol.2, No.4, pp. 155-163, 2020, DOI:10.32604/jihpp.2020.010453

Abstract Image denoising is often used as a preprocessing step in computer vision tasks, which can help improve the accuracy of image processing models. Due to the imperfection of imaging systems, transmission media and recording equipment, digital images are often contaminated with various noises during their formation, which troubles the visual effects and even hinders people’s normal recognition. The pollution of noise directly affects the processing of image edge detection, feature extraction, pattern recognition, etc., making it difficult for people to break through the bottleneck by modifying the model. Many traditional filtering methods have shown poor performance since they do not… More >

Lithium-Ion Battery Screening by K-Means with DBSCAN for Denoising

    Yudong Wang1, 2, Jie Tan1, *, Zhenjie Liu1, Allah Ditta3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.65, No.3, pp. 2111-2122, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.011098

Abstract Batteries are often packed together to meet voltage and capability needs. However, due to variations in raw materials, different ages of equipment, and manual operation, there is inconsistency between batteries, which leads to reduced available capacity, variability of resistance, and premature failure. Therefore, it is crucial to pack similar batteries together. The conventional approach to screening batteries is based on their capacity, voltage and internal resistance, which disregards how batteries perform during manufacturing. In the battery discharge process, real time discharge voltage curves (DVCs) are collected as a set of unlabeled time series, which reflect how the battery voltage changes.… More >

Software Defect Prediction Based on Non-Linear Manifold Learning and Hybrid Deep Learning Techniques

    Kun Zhu1, Nana Zhang1, Qing Zhang2, Shi Ying1, *, Xu Wang3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.65, No.2, pp. 1467-1486, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.011415

Abstract Software defect prediction plays a very important role in software quality assurance, which aims to inspect as many potentially defect-prone software modules as possible. However, the performance of the prediction model is susceptible to high dimensionality of the dataset that contains irrelevant and redundant features. In addition, software metrics for software defect prediction are almost entirely traditional features compared to the deep semantic feature representation from deep learning techniques. To address these two issues, we propose the following two solutions in this paper: (1) We leverage a novel non-linear manifold learning method - SOINN Landmark Isomap (SLIsomap) to extract the… More >

Mixed Noise Removal by Residual Learning of Deep CNN

    Kang Yang1, Jielin Jiang1,2,*, Zhaoqing Pan1,2

    Journal of New Media, Vol.2, No.1, pp. 1-10, 2020, DOI:10.32604/jnm.2020.09356

Abstract Due to the huge difference of noise distribution, the result of a mixture of multiple noises becomes very complicated. Under normal circumstances, the most common type of mixed noise is to add impulse noise (IN) and then white Gaussian noise (AWGN). From the reduction of cascaded IN and AWGN to the latest sparse representation, a great deal of methods has been proposed to reduce this form of mixed noise. However, when the mixed noise is very strong, most methods often produce a lot of artifacts. In order to solve the above problems, we propose a method based on residual learning… More >
