    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.21, No.4, pp. 891-938, 2025, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2024.059903 - 06 May 2025

Abstract This paper investigates the start-up and shutdown phases of a five-bladed closed-impeller centrifugal pump through experimental analysis, capturing the temporal evolution of its hydraulic performances. The study also predicts the transient characteristics of the pump under non-rated operating conditions to assess the accuracy of various machine learning methods in forecasting its instantaneous performance. Results indicate that the pump’s transient behavior in power-frequency mode markedly differs from that in frequency-conversion mode. Specifically, the power-frequency mode achieves steady-state values faster and exhibits smaller fluctuations before stabilization compared to the other mode. During the start-up phase, as… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.142, No.2, pp. 1021-1107, 2025, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2024.057884 - 27 January 2025

Abstract Disordered ferromagnets with a domain structure that exhibit a hysteresis loop when driven by the external magnetic field are essential materials for modern technological applications. Therefore, the understanding and potential for controlling the hysteresis phenomenon in these materials, especially concerning the disorder-induced critical behavior on the hysteresis loop, have attracted significant experimental, theoretical, and numerical research efforts. We review the challenges of the numerical modeling of physical phenomena behind the hysteresis loop critical behavior in disordered ferromagnetic systems related to the non-equilibrium stochastic dynamics of domain walls driven by external fields. Specifically, using the extended… More >

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.29, No.2, pp. 1-4, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.011777

    Abstract 1 General introduction
The flash smelting is one of the dominant technologies for copper matte production. To meet the increasing demand, the production capability of flash smelting furnace has been increased several times. However, under current conditions, the segregation of concentrate particles becomes an escalating issue, impacting production efficiency and safety [1]. The DEM modelling is a powerful tool for investigating particle behaviors such as contact and collision, but the lack of accurate microscopic properties of copper concentrate particles makes it challenging to conduct reliable DEM simulations [2]. To address this gap, this study employs both… More >

Abstract In order to obtain the transient characteristics of a low-speed centrifugal pump during the start-up and shutdown stages, dedicated experimental tests were conducted with eight different valve opening conditions. The Pearson correlation coefficient was used to reveal the linear correlation between variables. According to the results, the stable rotational speed decreases with increasing valve opening (rotational speed decreases from approximately 1472 to 1453 r/min), while the stable shaft power exhibits an increasing trend (shaft power increases from approximately 0.242 to 0.390 kW). The stable time and zeroing time of each parameter during start-up and shutdown More >

Experiments and Analyses on Heat Transfer Characteristics from a Solid Wall to a Strip-Shaped Wick Structure

    Kenta Hashimoto1, Guohui Sun1, Yasushi Koito2,*

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.22, No.3, pp. 687-702, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2024.052928 - 11 July 2024

Abstract Centered or striped wick structures have been used to develop ultrathin heat pipes. Differing from traditional heat pipes, the centered or striped wick structures leave noncontact container surfaces with the wick structure. In this study, experiments and numerical analyses were conducted to investigate the influence of these noncontact surfaces. In the experiments, a strip-shaped wick structure was placed vertically, the top was sandwiched between wider rods and the bottom was immersed in a working fluid. The rod width was greater than the wick width; thus, noncontact surfaces were left between the rod and the wick… More >
