Low-Carbon Economic Dispatch Strategy for Integrated Energy Systems with Blue and Green Hydrogen Coordination under GHCT and CET Mechanisms

    Aidong Zeng1,2,*, Zirui Wang1, Jiawei Wang 3, Sipeng Hao1,2, Mingshen Wang4

    Energy Engineering, Vol.122, No.9, pp. 3793-3816, 2025, DOI:10.32604/ee.2025.069410 - 26 August 2025

Abstract With the intensification of the energy crisis and the worsening greenhouse effect, the development of sustainable integrated energy systems (IES) has become a crucial direction for energy transition. In this context, this paper proposes a low-carbon economic dispatch strategy under the green hydrogen certificate trading (GHCT) and the ladder-type carbon emission trading (CET) mechanism, enabling the coordinated utilization of green and blue hydrogen. Specifically, a proton exchange membrane electrolyzer (PEME) model that accounts for dynamic efficiency characteristics, and a steam methane reforming (SMR) model incorporating waste heat recovery, are developed. Based on these models, a… More > Graphic Abstract

Bioenergy and Green Hydrogen Production in The Gambia: Potential for Energy Mix Integration

    Fatou Balleh Jobe1, Satyanarayana Narra1,*, Vidhi Singh1, Komi Agboka2

    Energy Engineering, Vol.122, No.7, pp. 2539-2569, 2025, DOI:10.32604/ee.2025.061963 - 27 June 2025

Abstract This study evaluates the feasibility of incorporating alternative sustainable energy sources, specifically bioenergy and green hydrogen, into The Gambia’s energy mix to support the nation’s long-term energy development goals. The feedstocks analyzed include agricultural crop residues such as rice, cassava, groundnuts, maize, sorghum, oil palm fruit, seed cotton, and millet, as well as municipal solid waste (MSW). An assessment was conducted to calculate the theoretical potential generated from the organic components of both MSW and crop residues, utilizing data collected from 2017 to 2021 and projections extending to 2038. The results were employed to calculate… More >

Design and Development of a Small-Scale Green Hydrogen Vehicle: Hydrogen Consumption Analysis under Varying Loads for Zero-Emission Transport

Perry Yang Tchie Hunn1, Hadi Nabipour Afrouzi2,*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.122, No.5, pp. 1789-1804, 2025, DOI:10.32604/ee.2025.060124 - 25 April 2025

Abstract With growing interest in its potential applications across both stationary and transportation sectors, hydrogen has emerged as a promising alternative for environmentally responsible power generation. By replacing traditional fuels, hydrogen can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the transportation sector. This study focuses on the design and downsizing of a green hydrogen fuel cell car, aiming to scale the concept for larger vehicles. Key components, including fuel cells, electrolysers, and solar panels, were evaluated through extensive laboratory testing. The findings reveal that variations in sunlight impact the solar panel’s hydrogen production rate, with differences of… More > Graphic Abstract

Advanced Thermochemical Conversion Approaches for Green Hydrogen Production from Crop Residues

Omojola Awogbemi*, Ayotunde Adigun Ojo, Samson Adedayo Adeleye

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.12, No.1, pp. 1-28, 2024, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.045822 - 23 January 2024

Abstract The huge volumes of crop residues generated during the production, processing, and consumption of farm products constitute an ecological nuisance when ineffectively managed. The conversion of crop residues to green hydrogen is one of the sustainable management strategies for ubiquitous crop residues. Production of green hydrogen from crop residue sources will contribute to deepening access to clean and affordable energy, mitigating climate change, and ensuring environmental sustainability. However, the deployment of conventional thermochemical technologies for the conversion of crop residues to green hydrogen is costly, requires long residence time, produces low-quality products, and therefore needs… More >
