Yong Wang*, Rui-Zhi Jia*, Shu Diao*, Jun He, Li Jia

    Oncology Research, Vol.28, No.2, pp. 203-212, 2020, DOI:10.3727/096504019X15761480623959

Abstract Despite the considerable knowledge on the involvement of microRNA-101 (miR-101) in the evolution of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), the underlying mechanisms remain obscure. In this study, miR-101 expression was markedly downregulated in the OSCC cell lines and tissues. Cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8), ethynyl deoxyuridine (EdU), and colony formation assays showed that miR-101 inhibited the proliferation of OSCC cells. Flow cytometry and caspase 3 activity assays indicated that miR-101 induced OSCC cell apoptosis. Transwell assays demonstrated that this miRNA also repressed OSCC cell migration and invasion. Moreover, tube formation assay showed that miR-101 abated the proangiogenesis of OSCC cells. Dual-luciferase… More >

Abstract Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) is resistant to standard therapies and has no effective treatment. Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 5A2 (EIF5A2) has shown to be upregulated in many malignant tumors and proposed to be a critical gene involved in tumor metastasis. In this study, we aimed to investigate the expression status of EIF5A2 in human ATC tissues and to study the role and mechanisms of EIF5A2 in ATC tumorigenesis in vitro and in vivo. Expression of EIF5A2 protein was analyzed in paraffin-embedded human ATC tissues and adjacent nontumorous tissues (ANCT) (n = 24) by immunochemistry. Expressions of EIF5A2 mRNA and protein… More >

Abstract Lung cancer is a malignant tumor with high incidence and mortality across the world. The use of immune checkpoint inhibitors for lung cancer has improved the prognosis of some lung cancer patients to a greater extent and provided a new direction for the clinical treatment of lung cancer. Immunotherapy still has limitations in terms of its appropriate population and adverse reactions. Particularly for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation, there has been no major breakthrough in current immunotherapy. Whether immunotherapy can bring new benefits after drug resistance is induced by tyrosine kinase inhibitor-targeted… More >

Inflammatory priming of mesenchymal stem cells: Focus on growth factors enhancement

ALEKSANDRA GORNOSTAEVA, ELENA ANDREEVA*, LUDMILA BURAVKOVA*

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.9, pp. 2049-2052, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.019993

Abstract Multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) are actively involved in reparation and inflammation processes, providing damaged tissue reparation and suppressing immune cell responses in vivo. The effects are mostly due to the production of a wide range of paracrine factors, including growth factors and immunomodulatory mediators. To induce immunosuppressive activity, MSCs are primed by inflammatory cytokines, which results in an increased production of immunomodulatory molecules. However, stimulation of reparative properties is also necessary. This viewpoint manuscript highlights the possibilities of inflammatory priming to increase the production of growth factors by MSCs. BIOCELL, Vol.45, No.4, pp. 985-994, 2021, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2021.012371

Abstract Fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) play pivotal roles in cell migration and proliferation. However, the identity of the FGF that plays a dominant role in kidney cell proliferation remains unclear. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the dominant FGF among all FGFs. To this end, RNA-sequencing, qRT-PCR, western blotting, and ChIP assays were performed. FGF9 showed the highest expression among all FGFs, and its overexpression significantly promoted proliferation in the mouse kidney cell line C57BL/6 and increased JNK and AKT phosphorylation levels. Further, RNA-seq analysis identified 365 upregulated and 276 downregulated genes in FGF9-overexpressed cells. These differentially expressed genes were classified… More >
