Zerui Chen*, Xin Wu, Houpeng Hu, Yang Zhou, Shang Yang

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.23, No.3, pp. 991-1011, 2025, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2025.065936 - 30 June 2025

Abstract As the integration of electronic components in high-performance servers increases, heat generation significantly impacts performance and raises failure rates. Therefore, heat dissipation has become a critical concern in electronic circuit design. This study uses numerical simulations to investigate the heat dissipation characteristics of electronic components in air-cooled servers. By adjusting airflow speed, heat sink configurations, and the arrangement of straight-fin heat sinks, we optimize heat dissipation performance and analyze the mechanisms at different airflow speeds. The results show that, at the same airflow speed, the temperature of the heat sink is lower than that of… More >

Tianjiao Zhang*, Yibo Xu, Long Li, Kequn Li, Hua Zhang

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.23, No.3, pp. 819-832, 2025, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2025.064287 - 30 June 2025

Abstract Power batteries serve as key components of new energy vehicles and are distinguished by their large capacity, long lifespan, high energy density, and stable operation. The strict temperature demands of power battery packs necessitate the development of highly efficient thermal management systems. In this study, a converging-diverging liquid cooling channel featuring a wave shaped structure was designed and analyzed for 18,650-type lithium-ion batteries. To investigate the design methodology for flow channel structure, a thermal model for the heat generation rate of the 18,650-type battery was developed. A comparative analysis of four geometrical configurations of converging-diverging… More >

Optimizing Heat Sink Performance by Replacing Fins from Solid to Porous inside Various Enclosures Filled with a Hybrid Nanofluid

    Ahmed Dhafer Abdulsahib1,*, Dhirgham Alkhafaji1, Ibrahim M. Albayati2

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.22, No.6, pp. 1777-1804, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2024.057209 - 19 December 2024

Abstract The current study generally aims to improve heat transfer in heat sinks by presenting a numerical analysis of natural convection of an enclosure with hot right and cool left walls, and thermally insulated top and bottom walls. The cold wall included configurations (half circle/half square) in various sizes (S = 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3), numbers (N = 1, 2, 3, and 4), and locations (C = 0.35, and 0.65). A heat sink is constructed of Aluminum attached to the hot wall, and composed of five fins with protrusions. Fins of the heat sink will be… More > Graphic Abstract

An Experimental Investigation of Aero-Foil-Shaped Pin Fin Arrays

    Mainak Bhaumik1, Anirban Sur2,*, Kavita Dhanawade3

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.21, pp. 467-486, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2023.044605 - 30 November 2023

Abstract Pin fins are widely used in applications where effective heat transfer is crucial. Their compact design, high surface area, and efficient heat transfer characteristics make them a practical choice for many thermal management applications. But for a high heat transfer rate and lightweight application, aerofoil shape pin fins are a good option. This work focuses on an experimental model analysis of pin-fins with aerofoil shapes. The results were evaluated between perforation, no perforation, inline, and staggered fin configurations. Aluminum is used to make the pin fins array. The experiment is carried out inside a wind… More >

    Hongyu Mu1,2,*, Yinyan Wang1, Hong Teng2, Xingtian Zhao2, Xiaolong Zhang2, Yan Jin2, Shiyang Hao2, Jingfeng Zhao2

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.3, pp. 1103-1116, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.017273 - 31 March 2022

Abstract The aerodynamics and heat transfer performance in the rear-mounted automobile cabin have an important influence on the engine's safety and the operational stability of the automobile. The article uses STAR-CCM and GT-COOL software to establish the 3D wind tunnel model and engine cooling system model of the internal combustion engine. At the same time, we established a 3D artificial coupling model through parameter transfer. The research results show that the heat transfer coefficient decreases with the increase of the comprehensive drag coefficient of the nacelle. This shows that the cabin flow field has an important More >

Research on the Flow and Heat Transfer Characteristics of a Water-Cooling Plate in a Heat Dissipation System

Yukun Lv, Zhuang Wei*, Quanzhi Ge, Fan Yang, Shuang Yang

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.6, pp. 1855-1867, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2021.015248 - 10 September 2021

Abstract The water-cooling heat dissipation technology can solve the heat dissipation and noise problems of the calculation plate. Therefore, the structural design of the water-cooling plate directly affects its flow and heat transfer characteristics, which restricts the promotion and application of the technology. To this end, the water-cooling plate of a heat dissipation system was taken as the research object, and its flow and heat transfer characteristics were numerical simulated and experimental studied. Through comparative analysis, the rationality of the numerical simulation method was verified. Based on this, three improved schemes of water-cooling plate structure were More >

Adaptive Extended Isogeometric Analysis for Steady-State Heat Transfer in Heterogeneous Media

    Weihua Fang1, Tiantang Yu2,*, Yin Yang3

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.126, No.3, pp. 1315-1332, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2021.014575 - 19 February 2021

Abstract Steady-state heat transfer problems in heterogeneous solid are simulated by developing an adaptive extended isogeometric analysis (XIGA) method based on locally refined non-uniforms rational B-splines (LR NURBS). In the XIGA, the LR NURBS, which have a simple local refinement algorithm and good description ability for complex geometries, are employed to represent the geometry and discretize the field variables; and some special enrichment functions are introduced into the approximation of temperature field, thus the computational mesh is independent of the material interfaces, which are described with the level set method. Similar to the approximation of temperature… More >

A Thermal Lattice Boltzmann Model for Flows with Viscous Heat Dissipation

    Hao-Chueh Mai1, Kuen-Hau Lin1, Cheng-Hsiu Yang1, Chao-An Lin1,2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.61, No.1, pp. 45-62, 2010, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2010.061.045

Abstract A thermal BGK lattice Boltzmann model for flows with viscous heat dissipation is proposed. In this model, the temperature is solved by a separate thermal distribution function, where the equilibrium distribution function is similar to its hydrodynamic counterpart, except that the leading quantity is temperature. The viscous dissipation rate is obtained by computing the second-order moments of non-equilibrium distribution function, which avoids the discretization of the complex gradient term, and can be easily implemented. The proposed thermal lattice Boltzmann model is scrutinized by computing two-dimensional thermal Poiseuille flow, thermal Couette flow, natural convection in a More >
