Effects of Roughness and Texture on Surface Material Perception in Virtual Environments: The Psychophysics Approach

    Mutian Niu1, Cheng-Hung Lo1,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.24, No.1, pp. 1-3, 2022, DOI:10.32604/icces.2022.08669

    Abstract Introduction:
Through a series of psychophysical experiments, this paper investigates the perceptual difference of roughness and texture on surface materials in immersive Virtual Reality (VR) viewing mode and traditional 2D viewing mode. Visual perception is generally considered as the most reliable perceptual mechanism, which is often studied for exploring and revealing the relationship between cognitive processes and visual information transmission [1]. VR provides users with a strong sense of presence. Furthermore, it utilizes our stereoscopic vision to form a vivid impression of depth. This stereoscopic depth effect thus became a key factor differentiating the experiences in VR and traditional 2D… More >

Xinwen Wang, Fupeng Zhang, Xi Yang, Meiping Xue, Xiaoli Li, Yu Gao, Likun Liu

    Oncology Research, Vol.27, No.8, pp. 871-877, 2019, DOI:10.3727/096504018X15426271404407

Abstract Second-generation irreversible epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI), afatinib, has been approved for treating EGFR mutant lung cancer patients, but the mechanism of acquired resistance to afatinib has not been well studied. In this study, we established afatinib acquired resistant cell lines. Gene array technology was used to screen changes in gene expression between afatinib-resistant lung cancer cells and parental cells. Our results showed that secreted phosphoprotein 1 (SPP1) was significantly increased in afatinib-resistant lung cancer cells. To study the effect of SPP1 on afatinib resistance, siSPP1 was used to knock down SSP1 in afatinib-resistant lung cancer… More >

    Oncology Research, Vol.27, No.4, pp. 469-474, 2019, DOI:10.3727/096504018X15267574931782

Abstract Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) frequently occurs in lymphoma patients receiving R-CHOP, a drug combination therapy. Although severe CIPN may lead to reduction and/or discontinuation of the medication, predictive factors of CIPN have not been investigated sufficiently to date. We performed a retrospective exploratory research to determine associations between prevalence of severe CIPN and sociodemographic data, health characteristics, and medical conditions such as anemia at initial diagnosis. Forty patients (indolent lymphoma, n=9; diffuse large B-cell lymphoma; n=31) received R-CHOP therapy from September 2009 to July 2014. The median age of patients was 58 years (range=27–76 years). Statistical analyses were applied to… More >

    Mohamed Ali Rakrouki1,2,*, Abeer Aljohani1, Nawaf Alharbe1, Abdelaziz Berrais2, Talel Ladhari2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.35, No.1, pp. 1119-1134, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.028604

Abstract In this paper, we consider the problem of minimizing the total tardiness in a deterministic two-machine permutation flowshop scheduling problem subject to release dates of jobs and known unavailability periods of machines. The theoretical and practical importance of minimizing tardiness in flowshop scheduling environment has motivated us to investigate and solve this interested two-machine scheduling problem. Methods that solve this important optimality criterion in flowshop environment are mainly heuristics. In fact, despite the -hardness in the strong sense of the studied problem, to the best of our knowledge there are no approximate algorithms (constructive heuristics or metaheuristics) or an algorithm… More >

Novel Sensing Hole Recovery with Expanded Relay Node Capability

    Moonseong Kim1, Woochan Lee2,*

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.44, No.1, pp. 663-675, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.025615

Abstract The occurrence of ‘sensing holes’ not only hinders seamless data collection but also leads to misinterpretation of information in certain areas under extensive data analysis. In order to overcome this, various sensor relocation strategies have been proposed, but the existing relocation strategies revealed problems such as the ping-pong, shaded area, network disconnection, etc. This paper conducted research on relocation protocols in a distributed environment that is very suitable for real-world situations and efficiently recovering the problem of sensing holes. First, a simulation was performed on the distribution of the shaded area for data collection, which is a problem with the… More >

    J. Avila Selvi Therase1,*, S. Allwin1, A. Ahilan2

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.44, No.1, pp. 297-309, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.023515

Abstract Intelligent communication technologies beyond the network are proposed by using a new full-duplex protocol. The Media Access Control (MAC) is a data interaction network protocol, which outperforms the IEEE 802.15.4e. This research discusses the planning and execution of full-duplex (FD) pipeline MAC protocol for multihop wireless networks (MWN). The design uses a combination of Radio frequency and baseband methods to realize full-duplexing with smallest impact on cross layer functions. The execution and trial results specify that Pipeline Media Access Control (PiMAC) protocol considerably develops network implementation in terms of transmission protocol (TP) and transmission delay. The advantage of using FD-MAC… More >

    Mahdi Jemmali1,2,3,*, Lotfi Hidri4

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.44, No.1, pp. 563-577, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.022716

Abstract The two-stage hybrid flow shop problem under setup times is addressed in this paper. This problem is NP-Hard. on the other hand, the studied problem is modeling different real-life applications especially in manufacturing and high performance-computing. Tackling this kind of problem requires the development of adapted algorithms. In this context, a metaheuristic using the genetic algorithm and three heuristics are proposed in this paper. These approximate solutions are using the optimal solution of the parallel machines under release and delivery times. Indeed, these solutions are iterative procedures focusing each time on a particular stage where a parallel machines problem is… More >

    J. Rajalakshmi*, S. Siva Ranjani

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.34, No.2, pp. 1049-1063, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.025127

Abstract Recently many algorithms for allocation of power approaches have been suggested to increase the Energy Efficiency (EE) and Spectral Efficiency (EE) in the Distributed Antenna System (DAS). In addition, the method of conservation developed for the allocation of power is challenging for the enhancement because of their high complication during estimation. With the intention of increasing the EE and SE, the optimization of allocation of power is done on the basis of capacity of the antenna. The main goal is for the optimization of the power allocation to improve the spectral and energy efficiency with the increased capacity of the… More >
