Abstract Konjac is an ideal candidate for edible coatings on fruits due to its hydrophilic properties, film-forming ability, barrier properties, safety, and biodegradability. Meanwhile, the high market demand for strawberries necessitates post-harvest treatment to extend their shelf life and preserve their quality, as strawberries are known for their fragile skin and soft texture. To fully utilize konjac and develop high-quality coating films, native konjac flour (NKF) and konjac glucomannan (KGM) were extracted from its corm and used as a coating film for strawberries in the present study. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the physical properties… More > Graphic Abstract

An Iterated Greedy Algorithm with Memory and Learning Mechanisms for the Distributed Permutation Flow Shop Scheduling Problem

    Binhui Wang, Hongfeng Wang*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.82, No.1, pp. 371-388, 2025, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.058885 - 03 January 2025

Abstract The distributed permutation flow shop scheduling problem (DPFSP) has received increasing attention in recent years. The iterated greedy algorithm (IGA) serves as a powerful optimizer for addressing such a problem because of its straightforward, single-solution evolution framework. However, a potential draw-back of IGA is the lack of utilization of historical information, which could lead to an imbalance between exploration and exploitation, especially in large-scale DPFSPs. As a consequence, this paper develops an IGA with memory and learning mechanisms (MLIGA) to efficiently solve the DPFSP targeted at the mini-mal makespan. In MLIGA, we incorporate a memory… More >

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.31, No.2, pp. 1-1, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.013220

Abstract The dynamic behaviour of Ti-6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo additively manufactured by electron beam melting (EBM) is presented in this study considering synchronised tension-torsion loading. A bespoke spilt Hopkinson Tension-Torsion bar is used to generate combined tensile and torsional stress pulses that interact simultaneously with a novel specimen geometry. High-speed digital imaging correlation techniques are employed to assess the high-rate deformation and crack propagation of the specimen. The material's dynamic response was analysed across a spectrum of stress states, including uniaxial tension, shear, and combinations of tension and shear at strain rates ranging between 500 s-1 and 2000 s-1. Liang Zeng1,2,3, Ziyang Ding1, Junyang Shi1, Shanshan Wang1,2,3,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.81, No.1, pp. 1757-1787, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.055574 - 15 October 2024

Abstract In the manufacturing industry, reasonable scheduling can greatly improve production efficiency, while excessive resource consumption highlights the growing significance of energy conservation in production. This paper studies the problem of energy-efficient distributed heterogeneous permutation flowshop problem with variable processing speed (DHPFSP-VPS), considering both the minimum makespan and total energy consumption (TEC) as objectives. A discrete multi-objective squirrel search algorithm (DMSSA) is proposed to solve the DHPFSP-VPS. DMSSA makes four improvements based on the squirrel search algorithm. Firstly, in terms of the population initialization strategy, four hybrid initialization methods targeting different objectives are proposed to enhance… More >

Abstract Localization is crucial in wireless sensor networks for various applications, such as tracking objects in outdoor environments where GPS (Global Positioning System) or prior installed infrastructure is unavailable. However, traditional techniques involve many anchor nodes, increasing costs and reducing accuracy. Existing solutions do not address the selection of appropriate anchor nodes and selecting localized nodes as assistant anchor nodes for the localization process, which is a critical element in the localization process. Furthermore, an inaccurate average hop distance significantly affects localization accuracy. We propose an improved DV-Hop algorithm based on anchor sets (AS-IDV-Hop) to improve… More >

    Wenxuan Du1, Zhongwei Mou2, Xuanfu He1, Jianping Yin1, Yinggang Miao1,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.29, No.3, pp. 1-1, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.011421

Abstract High-speed friction and wear are usually occurring in the service life of advanced equipment, and their behavior even influences service safety. However, there is still technique gap in accurately obtaining the parameters during dynamic friction induced by high-speed equipment. This gap is primarily stemmed from the available dynamic friction loading techniques with poor controllability. In this work, a novel dynamic friction apparatus is designed based on split Hopkinson bar technique. The loading principle is from stress wave generated by striker bar hitting the incident bar, which forces the sandwiched friction pair to slide with a… More >

Abstract The flow shop scheduling problem is important for the manufacturing industry. Effective flow shop scheduling can bring great benefits to the industry. However, there are few types of research on Distributed Hybrid Flow Shop Problems (DHFSP) by learning assisted meta-heuristics. This work addresses a DHFSP with minimizing the maximum completion time (Makespan). First, a mathematical model is developed for the concerned DHFSP. Second, four Q-learning-assisted meta-heuristics, e.g., genetic algorithm (GA), artificial bee colony algorithm (ABC), particle swarm optimization (PSO), and differential evolution (DE), are proposed. According to the nature of DHFSP, six local search operations… More >

Abstract Internet Exchange Point (IXP) is a system that increases network bandwidth performance. Internet exchange points facilitate interconnection among network providers, including Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and Content Delivery Providers (CDNs). To improve service management, Internet exchange point providers have adopted the Software Defined Network (SDN) paradigm. This implementation is known as a Software-Defined Exchange Point (SDX). It improves network providers’ operations and management. However, performance issues still exist, particularly with multi-hop topologies. These issues include switch memory costs, packet processing latency, and link failure recovery delays. The paper proposes Enhanced Link Failure Rerouting (ELFR), an… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.140, No.2, pp. 1459-1483, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2024.049756 - 20 May 2024

Abstract The distributed flexible job shop scheduling problem (DFJSP) has attracted great attention with the growth of the global manufacturing industry. General DFJSP research only considers machine constraints and ignores worker constraints. As one critical factor of production, effective utilization of worker resources can increase productivity. Meanwhile, energy consumption is a growing concern due to the increasingly serious environmental issues. Therefore, the distributed flexible job shop scheduling problem with dual resource constraints (DFJSP-DRC) for minimizing makespan and total energy consumption is studied in this paper. To solve the problem, we present a multi-objective mathematical model for… More >
