    S.P. Samrat, C. Sulochana* , G.P. Ashwinkumar

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.10, pp. 1-8, 2018, DOI:10.5098/hmt.10.31

Abstract This study reports the flow, thermal and concentration attributes of magnetic-nanofluids past an elongated plate with thermal radiation and chemical reaction. The flow considered is two-dimensional and time-dependent. The pressure gradient and ohmic heating terms are neglected in this analysis. The flow governing PDEs are transformed into ODEs using appropriate conversions. Further, the set of ODEs are solved analytically using perturbation technique. The flow quantities such as velocity, thermal and concentration fields are discussed under the influence of various pertinent parameters namely volume fraction of nanoparticle, magnetic field, stretching parameter, Soret number, radiation and chemical reaction with the assistance of… More >

    P. Bala Anki Reddya,*, S. Suneethab

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.10, pp. 1-9, 2018, DOI:10.5098/hmt.10.7

Abstract This work concentrates on the effects of homogeneous-heterogeneous chemical reactions on MHD boundary layer flow of Casson fluid over a stretching surface. Cattaneo-Christov heat flux model is considered instead of classical Fourier’s law to explore the heat transfer phenomena. Appropriate similarity transformations are used to convert the governing partial differential equations into a system of coupled non-linear differential equations. The resulting coupled non-linear differential equations are solved numerically by using the fourth order Runge-Kutta method with shooting technique. The impact of significant parameters on velocity, temperature, concentration, skin friction coefficient and the Nusselt number are presented graphically and in tabular… More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.12, pp. 1-9, 2019, DOI:10.5098/hmt.12.15

Abstract The present paper examines the peristaltic mechanism of a Jeffrey fluid through an elastic tube. The influence of velocity slip, convective boundary conditions, and variable liquid properties are taken into account. Closed form solutions are obtained for velocity, flux and temperature fields. In order to linearize the temperature equation, perturbation technique is employed. Also, the flux is determined theoretically via Rubinow and Keller and Mazumdar approach and the results are compared graphically. The effects of various vital parameters on the fluid flow are sketched and analyzed graphically. The findings emphasize the importance of elastic parameters in enhancing the flux of… More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.14, pp. 1-7, 2020, DOI:10.5098/hmt.14.15

Abstract This study aims at considering the properties of heat transfer and magneto-hydrodynamics (MHD) Casson nanofluid at the existence of free convection boundary layer flow with Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) suspended in human blood/water as based fluid on a stretching sheet. Two types of CNTs nanoparticles, single walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and multi walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), are taken into account. The governing partial differential equations are transformed to partial differential equations using similar transformation, then solved numerically by an implicit finite difference scheme known as Keller-box method (KBM). The results for physical quantities, the local skin friction, and local Nusselt number,… More >

    Pedro Montenegro1,*, Raphael Heleno2, Hermes Carvalho2, Diogo Ribeiro3, Rui Calçada1, Chris Baker4

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.24, No.1, pp. 1-2, 2022, DOI:10.32604/icces.2022.08678

Abstract This work consists of evaluating the impact of the most relevant characteristics of railway vehicles, namely geometric, mechanical and aerodynamic properties, in their runnability in the presence of strong winds, more precisely in the risk of derailment. Such objective is achieved by performing several dynamic with a non-linear vehicle-structure interaction model developed by the authors [1,2] and used in other works in this field [3,4], which allows the evaluation of the wheel-rail contact forces and, consequently, the unloading index, as suggested by the European Norm EN 14067-6 [5]. The calculations are carried out for several scenarios characterized by different train… More >

Abstract Myzus persicae (M. persicae) is now considered a threat to agricultural crops due to economic losses. Numerous synthetic insecticides applied every year against M. persicae, are reported to be unsafe for environment, humans, and beneficial insects. Furthermore, several species of Myzus have been found to develop resistance due to over application of these insecticides. Therefore, it is required to find some novel insecticide that would be safe for the environment as well as for humans. In the current study, two major pure constituents α-pinene and β-caryophyllene were evaluated for their insecticidal potential against M. persicae using a fumigant toxicity assay.… More >
