Exergy Analysis of Organic Rankine Cycles with Zeotropic Working Fluids

Antonio Mariani, Davide Laiso, Biagio Morrone*, Andrea Unich

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.3, pp. 593-601, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.022524

Abstract Waste heat recovery is one of the possible solutions to improve the efficiency of internal combustion engines. Instead of wasting the exhaust stream of an energy conversion system into the environment, its residual energy content can be usefully recovered, for example in Organic Rankine Cycles (ORC). This technology has been largely consolidated in stationary power plants but not yet for mobile applications, such as road transport, due to the limitations in the layout and to the constraints on the size and weight of the ORC system. An ORC system installed on the exhaust line of a bus powered by a… More > Graphic Abstract

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.3, pp. 1103-1116, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.017273

Abstract The aerodynamics and heat transfer performance in the rear-mounted automobile cabin have an important influence on the engine's safety and the operational stability of the automobile. The article uses STAR-CCM and GT-COOL software to establish the 3D wind tunnel model and engine cooling system model of the internal combustion engine. At the same time, we established a 3D artificial coupling model through parameter transfer. The research results show that the heat transfer coefficient decreases with the increase of the comprehensive drag coefficient of the nacelle. This shows that the cabin flow field has an important influence on the heat transfer… More >

Application of ANFIS Model for Thailand’s Electric Vehicle Consumption

    Narongkorn Uthathip1,*, Pornrapeepat Bhasaputra1, Woraratana Pattaraprakorn2

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.42, No.1, pp. 69-86, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.020120

Abstract Generally, road transport is a major energy-consuming sector. Fuel consumption of each vehicle is an important factor that affects the overall energy consumption, driving behavior and vehicle characteristic are the main factors affecting the change of vehicle fuel consumption. It is difficult to analyze the influence of fuel consumption with multiple and complex factors. The Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) approach was employed to develop a vehicle fuel consumption model based on multivariate input. The ANFIS network was constructed by various experiments based on the ANFIS Parameter setting. The performance of the ANFIS network was validated using Root Mean Square… More >

On the Design and Optimization of a Clean and Efficient Combustion Mode for Internal Combustion Engines through a Computer NSGA-II Algorithm

    Xiaobin Shu, Miaomiao Ren*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.16, No.5, pp. 1019-1029, 2020, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2020.09564

Abstract In order to address typical problems due to the huge demand of oil for consumption in traditional internal combustion engines, a new more efficient combustion mode is proposed and studied in the framework of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Moreover, a Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm (NSGA-II) is applied to optimize the related parameters, namely, the engine methanol ratio, the fuel injection time, the initial temperature, the Exhaust Gas Re-Circulation (EGR) rate, and the initial pressure. The so-called Conventional Diesel Combustion (CDC), Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) and the Reactivity Controlled Compression Ignition (RCCI) combustion modes are compared. The results show that… More >
