Types and Sources of Microplastics; The Ubiquitous Environment Contaminant: A Review

    ARCHNA RANI

    Journal of Polymer Materials, Vol.39, No.1-2, pp. 17-35, 2022, DOI:10.32381/JPM.2022.39.1-2.2

Abstract Accumulation of Microplastics (MPs) in diverse ecosystems is a growing global problem of our time. These are entering into the environment directly (micro-sized plastics manufactured purposefully) and by degradation of plastic products. Due to a diverse range of polymers and additives used to manufacture plastic products, the MPs of different chemical compositions are abundant in the environment. A detailed literature survey revealed that MPs -environment interaction is largely governed by these chemicals and other intrinsic properties of MPs viz. shape, size, density, surface charge, etc. The current investigation primarily aims to review different chemical and physical factors of MPs that… More >

    Fengxia Shi1,2, Guangbiao Zhao1,*, Yucai Tang1, Haonan Zhan1, Pengcheng Wang1

    Sound & Vibration, Vol.58, pp. 101-117, 2024, DOI:10.32604/sv.2024.047082

Abstract In order to study the effect of splitter blades on the internal and external sound field of the hydraulic turbine, the paper chose a centrifugal pump with a specific speed ns = 33 reversed as a hydraulic turbine as the research object, and added the short blades on the original impeller to form a new splitter impeller. Based on the Re-Normalization Group (RNG) k-ε turbulence model to conduct numerical simulation for the hydraulic turbine, this thesis calculated the internal and external acoustic field by means of the acoustic boundary element (BEM) and finite element (FEM) and analyzed the noise radiation… More >

    Zunliang Chen1,2, Chengxu Huang1,2, Lucheng Duan1,2, Baohua Tan1,2,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.76, No.1, pp. 1085-1102, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.039451

Abstract In response to the problem of the high cost and low efficiency of traditional water surface litter cleanup through manpower, a lightweight water surface litter detection algorithm based on improved YOLOv5s is proposed to provide core technical support for real-time water surface litter detection by water surface litter cleanup vessels. The method reduces network parameters by introducing the deep separable convolution GhostConv in the lightweight network GhostNet to substitute the ordinary convolution in the original YOLOv5s feature extraction and fusion network; introducing the C3Ghost module to substitute the C3 module in the original backbone and neck networks to further reduce… More >

    Wenbin Luo1,*, Youmin Wang1, Yuting Yan2, Yifang Shi1, Zhendong Zhang3

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.3, pp. 789-813, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.019691

Abstract In order to determine the optimal structural parameters of a plastic centrifugal pump in the framework of an orthogonal-experiment approach, a numerical study of the related flow field has been performed using CFX. The thickness S, outlet angle β2, inlet angle β1, wrap angle, and inlet diameter D1 of the splitter blades have been considered as the variable factors, using the shaft power and efficiency of the pump as evaluation indices. Through a parametric analysis, the relative importance of the influence of each structural parameter on each evaluation index has been obtained, leading to the following combinations: β1 19°, β2… More >

Yukun Lv, Quanzhi Ge*, Zhuang Wei, Shuang Yang

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.17, No.4, pp. 833-844, 2021, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2021.015082

Abstract The splitter is an important component of water-based cooling systems used to extract heat from computer boards. In the present study, the flow characteristics of a 16-splitter structure were numerically simulated and compared with experimental results to verify the reliability of the numerical simulation method. Accordingly, the concept of splitter structural coefficients was proposed. Based on the results of this study, we recommend a selection range of 5 ≤ k ≤ 6 for the structure factor k of the splitter; after optimization, the maximum deviation of the splitter outlet flow was reduced from the original value of 100% to 8.3%. Numerical Investigation on the Secondary Flow Control by Using Splitters at Different Positions with Respect to the Main Blade

    Tao Bian1, Xin Shen2, Jun Feng1, Bing Wang1,*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.17, No.3, pp. 615-628, 2021, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2021.014902

Abstract In turbomachinery, strong secondary flow can produce significant losses of total pressure near the endwall and reduce the efficiency of the considered turbomachine. In this study, splitters located at different positions with respect to the main blade have been used to reduce such losses and improve the efficiency of the outlet guide vane (OGV). Three different relative positions have been considered assuming a NACA 65-010 profile for both the main blade and the splitter. The numerical results indicate that splitters can effectively reduce the total pressure loss by suppressing the secondary flow around the main blade, but the splitters themselves… More >

Degree of Humification in Fresh Litter from a Subtropical Mixed Plantation Forest in Southwest China

    Fujia Wu1, Chengming You2, Jie Du3, Xiangjun Pei4,*, Ningfei Lei4, Bo Tan2, Huixing Song1,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.90, No.2, pp. 635-650, 2021, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2021.014298

Abstract The humification degree of fresh litter directly controls the accumulation of soil humus derived from plant litter, but very little information on this process is available. Planted forests are well known to restrict soil fertility, which is often indicated by the soil humus level. In this study, fresh litter was collected during different plant phenological stages during 2016 and 2017 in a mixed plantation in Southwest China. The values of hue coefficient ΔlogK (absorbance ratio of 400 nm and 600 nm on a logarithmic scale), optical density E4/E6 (absorbance ratio of 400 nm and 600 nm) and A600/C (absorbance at… More >
