Manipulating Chladni Patterns of Ferromagnetic Materials by an External Magnetic Field

Kenneth R. Podolak*, Vihan A.W. Wickramasinghe, Gareth A. Mansfield, Alex M. Tuller

    Sound & Vibration, Vol.55, No.3, pp. 235-240, 2021, DOI:10.32604/sv.2021.015008

Abstract Ernst Chladni is called the father of acoustics for his work, which includes investigating patterns formed by vibrating plates. Understanding these patterns helps research involving standing waves and other harmonic behaviors, including studies of single electron orbits in atoms. Our experiment vibrates circular plates which result in well-known patterns. Alternatively to traditional experiments that used sand or salt, we use magnetic materials, namely iron filings and nickel powder. We then manipulate the patterns by applying a localized external magnetic field to one of the rings that moves a segment of the magnetic material in that ring to the next inner… More >

    A. M. Abd-Alla1,*, S. M. Abo-Dahab2, M. A. Abdelhafez1, A. M. Farhan3,4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.69, No.1, pp. 205-220, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.015563

Abstract The present paper aims to explore how the magnetic field, ramp parameter, and rotation affect a generalized micropolar thermoelastic medium that is standardized isotropic within the half-space. By employing normal mode analysis and Lame’s potential theory, the authors could express analytically the components of displacement, stress, couple stress, and temperature field in the physical domain. They calculated such manners of expression numerically and plotted the matching graphs to highlight and make comparisons with theoretical findings. The highlights of the paper cover the impacts of various parameters on the rotating micropolar thermoelastic half-space. Nevertheless, the non-dimensional temperature is not affected by… More >

    Mohamed S. Mohamed1,*, Sayed K. Elagan1, Saad J. Almalki1, Muteb R. Alharthi1, Mohamed F. El-Badawy2, Amr M. S. Mahdy1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.68, No.3, pp. 3615-3628, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.017208

Abstract In this article, we have shown that bacterial DNA could act like some coils which interact with coil-like DNA of host cells. By decreasing the separating distance between two bacterial cellular DNA, the interaction potential, entropy, and the number of microstates of the system grow. Moreover, the system gives its energy to the medium and the temperature of the host body grows. This could be seen as fever in diseases. By emitting some special waves and changing the temperature of the medium, the effects of bacterial waves could be reduced and bacterial diseases could be controlled. Many investigators have shown… More >

Ensembling Neural Networks for User’s Indoor Localization Using Magnetic Field Data from Smartphones

Imran Ashraf, Soojung Hur, Yousaf Bin Zikria, Yongwan Park*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.68, No.2, pp. 2597-2620, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.016214

Abstract Predominantly the localization accuracy of the magnetic field-based localization approaches is severed by two limiting factors: Smartphone heterogeneity and smaller data lengths. The use of multifarious smartphones cripples the performance of such approaches owing to the variability of the magnetic field data. In the same vein, smaller lengths of magnetic field data decrease the localization accuracy substantially. The current study proposes the use of multiple neural networks like deep neural network (DNN), long short term memory network (LSTM), and gated recurrent unit network (GRN) to perform indoor localization based on the embedded magnetic sensor of the smartphone. CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.68, No.2, pp. 1485-1504, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.012586

Abstract This article is aimed at describing the way rotation and magnetic field affect the propagation of waves in an infinite poroelastic cylindrical bone. It offers a solution with an exact closed form. The authors got and examined numerically the general frequency equation for poroelastic bone. Moreover, they calculated the frequencies of poroelastic bone for different values of the magnetic field and rotation. Unlike the results of previous studies, the authors noticed little frequency dispersion in the wet bone. The proposed model will be applicable to wide-range parametric projects of bone mechanical response. Examining the vibration of surface waves in rotating… More >

    D. R. V. S. R. K. Sastry1, Peri K. Kameswaran2, Mohammad Hatami3,*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.17, No.2, pp. 285-300, 2021, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2021.014429

Abstract The problem of Marangoni mixed convection in the presence of an inclined magnetic field with uniform strength in a nanofluid (formed by the dispersion of two metallic nanoparticles, i.e., Copper (Cu), and alumina (Al2O3) in water) is addressed numerically. The effects of viscous dissipation and Ohmic heating are also considered. The original set of governing partial differential equations is reduced to a set of non-linear coupled ordinary differential equations employing the similarity transformation technique. The simplified equations are numerically solved through MATLAB ‘bvp4c’ algorithm. The results are presented in terms of graphs for several parameters. It is found that enhancing… More >
