    Zhaoting Liu1, Jianbo Wu1,*, Sha He2, Xin Rao3, Shiqiang Wang2, Shen Wang1, Wei Wei4

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.17, No.4, pp. 299-314, 2023, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2023.022554 - 02 August 2023

Abstract It is known that eddy current effect has a great influence on magnetic flux leakage testing (MFL). Usually, contact-type encoder wheels are used to measure MFL testing speed to evaluate the effect and further compensate testing signals. This speed measurement method is complicated, and inevitable abrasion and occasional slippage will reduce the measurement accuracy. In order to solve this problem, based on eddy current effect due to the relative movement, a speed measurement method is proposed, which is contactless and simple. In the high-speed MFL testing, eddy current induced in the specimen will cause an More > Graphic Abstract

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.137, No.2, pp. 1749-1771, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.027745 - 26 June 2023

Abstract The chaotic motion behavior of the rectangular conductive thin plate that is simply supported on four sides by airflow and mechanical external excitation in a magnetic field is studied. According to Kirchhoff ’s thin plate theory, considering geometric nonlinearity and using the principle of virtual work, the nonlinear motion partial differential equation of the rectangular conductive thin plate is deduced. Using the separate variable method and Galerkin’s method, the system motion partial differential equation is converted into the general equation of the Duffing equation; the Hamilton system is introduced, and the Melnikov function is used More > Graphic Abstract

NUMERICAL STUDY OF STAGNATION POINT FLOW OF CASSON FLUID OVER A CONTINUOUS MOVING SURFACE

Muhammad Amin Murada,*, Faraidun Hamasalhb, Hajar F. Ismaelc

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.20, pp. 1-8, 2023, DOI:10.5098/hmt.20.7

Abstract In this paper, we study the behavior of heat transfer of Casson fluid at the magnetohydrodynamic stagnation point with thermal radiation over a continuous moving sheet. The appropriate similarity transfer is used to transfer the governing differential equations into the ordinary differential equation and then solved by the collocation method based on spline function. The obtained results are investigated with the existing literature by direct comparison. We found that an increment in the value of the shrinking parameter, magnetic parameter, and Casson fluid parameter enhances the velocity distribution and depreciate the temperature profile both Casson More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.7, pp. 1875-1896, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.025224 - 08 March 2023

Abstract Sodium-alginate (SA) based nanofluids represent a new generation of fluids with improved performances in terms of heat transfer. This work examines the influence of the nanoparticle shape on a non–Newtonian viscoplastic Cu–nanofluid pertaining to this category. In particular, a stretching/shrinking sheet subjected to a transverse magnetic field is considered. The proposed Cu–nanofluid consists of four different nanoparticles having different shapes, namely bricks, cylinders, platelets, and blades dispersed in a mixture of sodium alginate with Prandtl number Pr = 6.45. Suitable similarity transformations are employed to reduce non–linear PDEs into a system of ODEs and these More >

Three-Dimensional Analytical Modeling of Axial-Flux Permanent Magnet Drivers

    Wenhui Li1, Dazhi Wang1,*, Shuo Cao2, Deshan Kong1, Sihan Wang1, Zhong Hua1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.75, No.1, pp. 259-276, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.034622 - 06 February 2023

Abstract In this paper, the axial-flux permanent magnet driver is modeled and analyzed in a simple and novel way under three-dimensional cylindrical coordinates. The inherent three-dimensional characteristics of the device are comprehensively considered, and the governing equations are solved by simplifying the boundary conditions. The axial magnetization of the sector-shaped permanent magnets is accurately described in an algebraic form by the parameters, which makes the physical meaning more explicit than the purely mathematical expression in general series forms. The parameters of the Bessel function are determined simply and the magnetic field distribution of permanent magnets and… More >

Magnetic mitohormesis: A non-invasive therapy for inflammatory disorders?

    ALFREDO FRANCO-OBREGÓN*

    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.2, pp. 239-244, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.025357 - 18 November 2022

Abstract An organism’s survival depends on its ability to adapt to stress. Mitochondria are the cellular integrators of environmental stressors that ultimately translate their responses at the organismal level, and are thus central to the process whereby organisms adapt to their respective environments. Mitochondria produce molecular energy via oxidative phosphorylation that then allows cells to biosynthetically respond and adapt to changes in their environment. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are by-products of oxidative phosphorylation that can be either beneficial or damaging, depending on the context; ROS are hence both the conveyors of environmental stress as well as More >

Abstract In this article, the rheology of Ferro-fluid over an axisymmetric heated disc with a variable magnetic field by considering the dispersion of hybrid nanoparticles is considered. The flow is assumed to be produced by the stretching of a rotating heated disc. The contribution of variable thermophysical properties is taken to explore the momentum, mass and thermal transportation. The concept of boundary layer mechanism is engaged to reduce the complex problem into a simpler one in the form of coupled partial differential equations system. The complex coupled PDEs are converted into highly nonlinear coupled ordinary differential… More >

A simple coordinate transformation to transform wavy surface to a flat surface is employed. A cubic spline collocation numerical method is employed to analyze transformed equations. The effect of various parameters such as Reynolds number, volume fraction 0-, Hartmann number, and amplitude of wave length was evaluated in improving the performance of a wavy microchannel. According to the presented results, the sinusoidal shape of the microchannel has a direct impact on heat More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.18, pp. 1-8, 2022, DOI:10.5098/hmt.18.42

Abstract In this paper, a steady and laminar flow of ferrofluid (Fe3O4/Water) in a uniformly heated tube under the effect of non-uniform magnetic field arranged periodically along the tube is numerically analyzed using the finite volume method. The analysis sheds light on the flow pattern, Nusselt number, friction factor and the Performance Evaluation Criterion, at laminar flow regime (102Re ≤ 103 ) and for various magnetic numbers (Mn = 0, 2.83 · 104 , 6.37 · 104 and 1.13 · 105 ). The obtained results show that the magnetic field generated by periodic arrangement of the wire pitches, More >
