Hybrid Clustering Algorithms with GRASP to Construct an Initial Solution for the MVPPDP

    Abeer I. Alhujaylan1, 2, *, Manar I. Hosny1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.62, No.3, pp. 1025-1051, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.08742

Abstract Mobile commerce (m-commerce) contributes to increasing the popularity of electronic commerce (e-commerce), allowing anybody to sell or buy goods using a mobile device or tablet anywhere and at any time. As demand for e-commerce increases tremendously, the pressure on delivery companies increases to organise their transportation plans to achieve profits and customer satisfaction. One important planning problem in this domain is the multi-vehicle profitable pickup and delivery problem (MVPPDP), where a selected set of pickup and delivery customers need to be served within certain allowed trip time. In this paper, we proposed hybrid clustering algorithms with the greedy randomised adaptive… More >

An Ant Colony Optimization Algorithm for Stacking Sequence Design of Composite Laminates

    F. Aymerich1, M. Serra2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.13, No.1, pp. 49-66, 2006, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2006.013.049

Abstract The study reported in this paper explores the potential of Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) metaheuristic for stacking sequence optimization of composite laminates. ACO is a recently proposed population-based search approach able to deal with a wide range of optimization problems, especially of a combinatorial nature, and inspired by the natural foraging behavior of ant colonies. ACO search processes, in which the activities of real ants are simulated by means of artificial agents that communicate and cooperate through the modification of the local environment, were implemented in a specifically developed numerical algorithm aimed at the lay-up optimization (based on a strain… More >

Insight into High-quality Aerodynamic Design Spaces through Multi-objective Optimization

    T. Kipouros1, D.M. Jaeggi2, W.N. Dawes3, G.T. Parks2,A.M. Savill1, P.J. Clarkson2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.37, No.1, pp. 1-44, 2008, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2008.037.001

Abstract An approach to support the computational aerodynamic design process is presented and demonstrated through the application of a novel multi-objective variant of the Tabu Search optimization algorithm for continuous problems to the aerodynamic design optimization of turbomachinery blades. The aim is to improve the performance of a specific stage and ultimately of the whole engine. The integrated system developed for this purpose is described. This combines the optimizer with an existing geometry parameterization scheme and a well-established CFD package. The system's performance is illustrated through case studies -- one two-dimensional, one three-dimensional -- in which flow characteristics important to the… More >
