    V. Vidya Lakshmi1,*, J. S. Leena Jasmine2

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.37, No.2, pp. 233-245, 2021, DOI:10.32604/csse.2021.015700

Abstract Melanoma or skin cancer is the most dangerous and deadliest disease. As the incidence and mortality rate of skin cancer increases worldwide, an automated skin cancer detection/classification system is required for early detection and prevention of skin cancer. In this study, a Hybrid Artificial Intelligence Model (HAIM) is designed for skin cancer classification. It uses diverse multi-directional representation systems for feature extraction and an efficient Exponentially Weighted and Heaped Multi-Layer Perceptron (EWHMLP) for the classification. Though the wavelet transform is a powerful tool for signal and image processing, it is unable to detect the intermediate dimensional structures of a medical… More >

    Adel Saad Assiri*

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.36, No.3, pp. 435-450, 2021, DOI:10.32604/csse.2021.014894

Abstract Artificial neural networks (ANNs) are one of the hottest topics in computer science and artificial intelligence due to their potential and advantages in analyzing real-world problems in various disciplines, including but not limited to physics, biology, chemistry, and engineering. However, ANNs lack several key characteristics of biological neural networks, such as sparsity, scale-freeness, and small-worldness. The concept of sparse and scale-free neural networks has been introduced to fill this gap. Network sparsity is implemented by removing weak weights between neurons during the learning process and replacing them with random weights. When the network is initialized, the neural network is fully… More >

    Liu Cao*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.126, No.1, pp. 5-23, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2021.014693

Abstract As a typical laser additive manufacturing technology, laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) has achieved demonstration applications in aerospace, biomedical and other fields. However, how to select process parameters quickly and reasonably is still the main concern of LPBF production. In order to quantitatively analyze the inuence of different process parameters (laser power, scanning speed, hatch space and layer thickness) on the LPBF process, the multi-layer and multi-path forming process of LPBF was predicted based on the open-source discrete element method framework Yade and the open-source finite volume method framework OpenFOAM. Based on the design of experiments method, a four-factor three-level… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.125, No.2, pp. 699-723, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2020.011004

Abstract It is important for regional water resources management to know the agricultural water consumption information several months in advance. Forecasting reference evapotranspiration (ET0) in the next few months is important for irrigation and reservoir management. Studies on forecasting of multiple-month ahead ET0 using machine learning models have not been reported yet. Besides, machine learning models such as the XGBoost model has multiple parameters that need to be tuned, and traditional methods can get stuck in a regional optimal solution and fail to obtain a global optimal solution. This study investigated the performance of the hybrid extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) model… More >

Abstract Many practical applications, under the definitive evolutionary state of the nature, the consequences of the decisions, mental states of a decision maker are required. Thus, the need is for a new concept in the analysis of decision-making. Zadeh has introduced this concept as the Z-number. Because the concept is relatively new, Z-number in fuzzy sets, hence, its basic theoretical aspects are yet undetermined. This paper presents a method for ranking Z-numbers. Hence, we propose a new method for ranking fuzzy numbers based on that of hyperbolic tangent function and convex combination. Then, using the same technique we propose a method… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.124, No.1, pp. 227-241, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2020.09923

Abstract This paper studies the binder droplet injection process in the 3DP technique. The mathematical model of the binder penetration process for multi-nozzle and multi-layer in 3DP technique is established, by using the conservation Level set method. According to the two-dimensional plane model of three-dimensional spatial structure of sand bed, the construction method of an equivalent cylindrical mapping infiltration model is proposed to represent the porosity of the model in the two-dimensional plane, which is exactly the same as that in the three-dimensional space, as well as closer to the arrangement of the three-dimensional space, and to realize the differentiation between… More >

    Shenghu Ding1,*, Qingnan Liu1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.114, No.3, pp. 335-349, 2018, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2018.114.335

Abstract A multi-layered model for heat conduction analysis of a thermoelectric material strip (TEMs) with a Griffith crack under the electric flux and energy flux load has been developed. The materials parameters of the TEMs vary continuously in an arbitrary manner. To derive the solution, the TEMs is divided into several sub-layers with different material properties. The mixed boundary problem is reduced to a system of singular integral equations, which are solved numerically. The effect of strip width on the electric flux intensity factor and thermal flux intensity factor are studied. More >

Abstract This paper addresses the mechanics of indentation-induced delamination of a coating on a multi-layered hollow cylinder, for application to toughness testing of thermal barrier coating (TBC) systems. An electron-beam physical vapor deposition (EB-PVD) TBC system has been analyzed through a contact finite element model using a standard conical indenter impressed vertically on the top of the cylinder. Two cylinder sizes used in thermal-mechanical fatigue tests in literature have been considered in the analysis, with outer radii of 5.11 mm and 3.08 mm, and inner radii of 3.00 mm and 0.97 mm, respectively. Two boundary conditions for the inner surface of… More >
