Abstract Metaheuristic optimization algorithms present an effective method for solving several optimization problems from various types of applications and fields. Several metaheuristics and evolutionary optimization algorithms have been emerged recently in the literature and gained widespread attention, such as particle swarm optimization (PSO), whale optimization algorithm (WOA), grey wolf optimization algorithm (GWO), genetic algorithm (GA), and gravitational search algorithm (GSA). According to the literature, no one metaheuristic optimization algorithm can handle all present optimization problems. Hence novel optimization methodologies are still needed. The Al-Biruni earth radius (BER) search optimization algorithm is proposed in this paper. The proposed algorithm was motivated by… More >

Siti Zulaikha Mohd Jamaludin1, Mohd. Asyraf Mansor2, Aslina Baharum3,*, Mohd Shareduwan Mohd Kasihmuddin1, Habibah A. Wahab4, Muhammad Fadhil Marsani1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.2, pp. 2853-2870, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.032654

Abstract The effectiveness of the logic mining approach is strongly correlated to the quality of the induced logical representation that represent the behaviour of the data. Specifically, the optimum induced logical representation indicates the capability of the logic mining approach in generalizing the real datasets of different variants and dimensions. The main issues with the logic extracted by the standard logic mining techniques are lack of interpretability and the weakness in terms of the structural and arrangement of the 2 Satisfiability logic causing lower accuracy. To address the issues, the logical permutation serves as an alternative mechanism that can enhance the… More >

    Rui Jiang1,3,*, Kaisheng Lai2, Jianping Xu1, Xiang Feng1, Shaoye Wang1, Xiaojian Wang3, Zhe Liu2

    Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.17, No.6, pp. 675-686, 2022, DOI:10.32604/chd.2022.021626

Abstract Background: The etiology of pulmonary arterial hypertension associated with congenital heart disease (PAHCHD) is complicated and the phenotype is heterogeneous. Genetic defects of NOTCH3 were associated with cerebral disease and pulmonary hypertension. However, the relationship between NOTCH3 mutations and the clinical phenotype has not been reported in CHD-PAH. Methods: We eventually enrolled 142 PAH-CHD patients from Fuwai Hospital. Whole exome sequencing (WES) was performed to screen the rare deleterious variants of NOTCH3 gene. Results: This PAH-CHD cohort included 43 (30.3%) men and 99 (69.7%) women with the mean age 29.8 ± 10.9 years old. The pathogenic or likely pathogenic mutations… More >

Investigation of Single and Multiple Mutations Prediction Using Binary Classification Approach

    T. Edwin Ponraj1,*, J. Charles2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.36, No.1, pp. 1189-1203, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.033383

Abstract The mutation is a critical element in determining the proteins’ stability, becoming a core element in portraying the effects of a drug in the pharmaceutical industry. Doing wet laboratory tests to provide a better perspective on protein mutations is expensive and time-intensive since there are so many potential mutations, computational approaches that can reliably anticipate the consequences of amino acid mutations are critical. This work presents a robust methodology to analyze and identify the effects of mutation on a single protein structure. Initially, the context in a collection of words is determined using a knowledge graph for feature selection purposes.… More >

ABCC8 is correlated with immune cell infiltration and overall survival in lower grade glioma

    LIPING GONG1, MING JIA2,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.1, pp. 109-123, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.024620

Abstract ATP binding cassette subfamily C member 8 (ABCC8) encodes a protein regulating the ATP-sensitive potassium channel. Whether the level of ABCC8 mRNA in lower grade glioma (LGG) correlates with immune cell infiltration and patient outcomes has not been evaluated until now. Comparisons of ABCC8 expression between different tumors and normal tissues were evaluated by exploring publicly available datasets. The association between ABCC8 and tumor immune cell infiltration, diverse gene mutation characteristics, tumor mutation burden (TMB), and survival in LGG was also investigated in several independent datasets. Pathway enrichment analysis was conducted to search for ABCC8-associated signaling pathways. Through an online… More >

Presenilin and Alzheimer’s disease interactions with aging, exercise and high-fat diet: A systematic review

YINGHUI GAO, DENGTAI WEN*, SHIJIE WANG, JINGFENG WANG

    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.1, pp. 41-49, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.022689

Abstract Presenilin (Psn) protein is associated with organismal aging. Mutations in the Psn gene may lead to Alzheimer’s disease (AD), dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), and many age-dependent degenerative diseases. These diseases seriously affect the quality of life and longevity of the population and place a huge burden on health care and economic systems around the world. Humans have two types of Psn, presenilin-1 (PSEN1) and presenilin-2 (PSEN2). Mutations in the genes encoding PSEN1, PSEN2, and amyloid precursor protein (APP) have been identified as the major genetic causes of AD. Psn is a complex gene strongly influenced by genetic and environmental factors. The… More >

Genetic Crossover Operators for the Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem

Zakir Hussain Ahmed1,*, Naif Al-Otaibi1, Abdullah Al-Tameem2, Abdul Khader Jilani Saudagar2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.1, pp. 1575-1605, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.031325

Abstract We study the capacitated vehicle routing problem (CVRP) which is a well-known NP-hard combinatorial optimization problem (COP). The aim of the problem is to serve different customers by a convoy of vehicles starting from a depot so that sum of the routing costs under their capacity constraints is minimized. Since the problem is very complicated, solving the problem using exact methods is almost impossible. So, one has to go for the heuristic/metaheuristic methods and genetic algorithm (GA) is broadly applied metaheuristic method to obtain near optimal solution to such COPs. So, this paper studies GAs to find solution to the… More >

Time Delay Estimation in Radar System using Fuzzy Based Iterative Unscented Kalman Filter

    T. Jagadesh1,2, B. Sheela Rani3,*

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.44, No.3, pp. 2569-2583, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.027239

Abstract RSs (Radar Systems) identify and trace targets and are commonly employed in applications like air traffic control and remote sensing. They are necessary for monitoring precise target trajectories. Estimations of RSs are non-linear as the parameters TDEs (time delay Estimations) and Doppler shifts are computed on receipt of echoes where EKFs (Extended Kalman Filters) and UKFs (Unscented Kalman Filters) have not been examined for computations. RSs, certain times result in poor accuracies and SNRs (low signal to noise ratios) especially, while encountering complicated environments. This work proposes IUKFs (Iterated UKFs) to track online filter performances while using optimization techniques to… More >
